will be using ASUS Xonar DX sound card and I will be using it for movies and music.

suggestions?

AKG K701 also great at that price point.

Enormous and transparent soundstage, extemely high resolution, particularly from mid and up. Very clear, clean and neutral sounding, needs amp and 100 hours+ break in time to shine (and will save your ears more as well, since they are open cans). Oh and they are beautifully designed.

Denon D2000. ~$200, and it's easily driven, which is good since I'm assuming you're using just the sound card and not an amp? Plus, they're super comfy.

You could also try HD580's ($200). Some regard them as the best value headphones under $300. I personally haven't heard them, but it gets some good reviews.

I'd disagree as the 701's are no fun for movies. They're good for some music, but by all means they are not a good all around headphone.

I'd stick with something like HD580's as they'll be decent with almost all music and will be fun to use for movies as well. And at $300, you can probably pick up a mini3 of XP amp as well.

Agreed, K701's are probably great for competitive gaming, but they lack bass impact that would make them fun for more relaxed gaming and of course, movie watching.

I think the DT770/80's are supposed to be pretty fun cans for movies, they only run about $150, you could use the rest of the money for a decent amp to balance it out.

What about Sennheiser hd580 + an amp? I love the combination for music and movies, although I upgraded and mainly use the hd650 now. What percent movie versus music are you looking at?

I have the tritton ax360's. Can't complain at all. Takes some tweaking but they sound excellent for movies, music and games. Microphone sucks.

I just bought a pair of Sennheiser HD-595's for $188 (amazon). Personally, I love these headphones! I almost wish I had spent more and purchased the HD-600 with a headphone amp, but that's only because the quality of the 595's is so high I think the 600s must be incredible! But YMMV.

Make sure you listen to the Sennheisers (and the others) before blindly buying them on recommendation. I myself do not appreciate the sound character of any of the Sennheiser I have ever heard. I find them "synthetic", almost sterile, and I even like a good "monitor" sound. Good luck with finding something that suits your taste.
