I recently picked up a pair of Polk Audio R50s from Frys (On sale for 59.99 each) and now I'm looking for some rear speakers, a center and a sub. I'd like to maintain the cherry wood look of the polk R50s and don't want to spend a fortune.

My receiver is going to be the Onkyo 605. I'll be running a HTPC based on the 780G chipset using HDMI.

Let me know what you guys recommend.

not sure what the R50s match to, but the R is polk's budget line. you can probably step to the monitor series for the rears, center can be the polk cs1. as for sub... polk's budget sub PSW10 gets pretty bad reviews overall. id recommend checking out avsforum to see what they recommend. for rears, polk monitor 30 going for $130 / pair shipped for the cherry model on amazon right now. onkyo 605 is a great receiver, im actually using it with my HTPC too.

Sorry I don't have any inputs but I'm also looking for a nice surround sound speaker set for my new HTPC. My question is that I thought the enclosures you mentioned did not come with speakers, do they? I've looked all over and I didn't see any, and do they come in silver or black at that price? A link would be great, I'm really lazy/busy. Thanks!

So I should splurge on the center channel?

it depends on what you like listening to. some people who enjoy drama or documentaries where dialogue is the key focus, yes the center speaker is the most important piece. however, for gaming, action movies, etc, IMO the 2 fronts also should be very good and match the center in terms of quality and power.

check out polk monitor 50, and monitor cs1 for a good matched 3 speaker set.

Googling Sony SR51E give me nothing. Searching Sony's website for SR51E, SR51, SR-51 gives me nothing except the SR52 which is a camcorder. If you're going to bother responding, please make sure it's useful information.

I am not a fan of sony speakers personally. I prefer to match the fronts and center if I can. Take a look at the Polk stuff and get a get one that fits your budget.

I've been looking at the CS2, according to the polk website it's the center speaker best matched to the R50s I have on my front. I'm looking at getting Monitor 40s for the rear and then 30s for the sides eventually. I'm not in a huge rush so I'm waiting for great deals. I snagged a brand new Onkyo 605 from 6ave for 275 shipped the other day.

Nice price on the Onkyo. And I'm going to agree with everyone else. If you go for broke on the center and get something in the CS series it's going to have a different tone then your left and right channel. Imagine you're watching a car drive by and it sounds one way when it comes in on the left, a little different in the middle, and then the same way it did going out on the right. Or, to put it another way, it would be like wearing flip-flops with a suite. Sure, flip-flops are awesome, but you're not really balancing your wardrobe.

I ended up finding a great deal through craigslist for a pair of RTi100's and a CS2. I'm now going to be using these for my front/sub (RTi100s have built in subs in the base) and moving the R50s to the rear.
