Rumor Has It

We had NewEgg stores already in OhiO but they did not fly. Ohio is nor too smart of a State I moved form Cal. to Ohio and it was like moving through a time warp into the past locked in 1960's. NewEgg couldn't get enough customers here same as most computer shops that are going out of business in Ohio. You need customers to stay in business.

:D But it might work in Columbus tho but not in Cleveland/

Eh? Since when did NewEgg ever have brick-and-mortar stores? Are you sure you aren't confusing them with Egghead Software?

And where in Ohio did you move? With your grammar, I'm not sure you're the best judge for intelligence. What exactly does being smart have to do with Newegg not getting enough customers? Are you referring to the employees or customers?

If you need intelligent customers to stay in business, how the hell does Best Buy keep getting people to pay their prices? Or Office Max? If you meant employees, that's the fault of Newegg for hiring idiots. But do most places not hire idiots anyway?

My girlfriend and I actually worked at PC Club from 2003 to 2005 in Modesto and Stockton, CA. We kept in touch with some of the managers and employees over the years and when I saw this yesterday while studying for finals (RSS Feed came up) I showed my girlfriend. She called one of the stores we knew people at (not revealing what store for reasons that will be obvious later) and spoke to the assistant manager there - he was still there giving people back machines that were there for tech work.

He gave us some insight into what was really going on. In addition to the restructuring a month ago, there was another restructuring about a week ago. They cut out some regional managers and shifted stores to remaining managers - our old regional manager was given 5 more stores for a total of about 17 stores (A ton for one regional manager, given that there aren't that many stores in Northern California/Nevada). As far as any of them knew, it was just part of a plan to revitalize PC Club. Our Regional Manager had NO idea what was really in the works.

Everyone found out yesterday morning - everyone. Granted, the smart people saw it coming, but no one really knew it was over until yesterday in the morning. Everything was turned over to the bankruptcy lawyer at 8am - literally EVERYTHING. All their inventory is impounded, they were told not to call people who had computers in the tech shop.
Managers were asked to turn over their keys directly to the bankruptcy lawyer and were told to call any employees that weren't working at that time and then leave immediately. The manager we spoke to did all of this but leave. He stuck behind to give people a chance to get their computers from the tech shop. We called around 5pm and he was still there waiting for people.

We spent a few minutes talking and he said that what really started the whole thing was that the Lan family - Jackson Lan's family - just decided they didn't want to put money into the company anymore and let it die. That pretty much sums up how PC Club operated at it's core - after you gave them your money, they stopped caring. The ONLY good people at that company were store employees, everyone else was rotten. I watched a few good people work their way up the chain and slowly become shoddy figures that I lost all respect for. A real shame for all the store employees, but that company had it coming.

The guys in the shop around noon had NO idea they were closing.

They are broadening their selling power by branching to new markets for their overall business.
Their Executive management team is rather solid(defiantly not high quality but give them 5 years and they will be close) and their tech staff looks to have a wealth of talent.
They are no Amazon.com but if they can make i through the next 2 years they will be a golden child in the IT and parts arena.
For some reason I see them being swallowed up by a bigger fish down the

Customer Service is a lost art. Those people that work in CS fields and still practice ' help the customer and make them happy' i commend you. I can't remember the last time i got good CS from a place, cept newegg. All companies care about anymore are dollar bills. Newegg will thrive for a long long time, and will probably put other companies out of business if they remain the Customer friendly business they are today. If you can buy the same thing at for the same price, why wouldnt you buy it from the person/company with the better attitude?

Clubit was such a good store, i started ordering from them last year. Because alot of time they had better deals then newegg.

its a shame to see them go.

I agree GS, this other guy has no clue what he is talking about...sheesh...

Another big hole in your argument is that Micro Center started in Ohio.

looks like PC Club got bought back up and is going to reopen soon, possible as soon as next Monday, I was just talking to one of the managers for one of the stores who just received word about it.

the guys at PC club said a private owner bought them . . .i thought maybe they had been lied to

well the person that told me was at the HQ and I could hear one of the other guys in the background that I remember from my days at the grub and he was talking to someone over his phone saying yes were back... and I have others contacted to find out if indeed they are back, two managers to be precise, so if I can get confirmation from 3 sources then I would say its good.

go to wikipedia and type in the company name and it will tell the whole story..... kinda sucks, i bought something from them at a good price in march.

Judd is on point.

Word is spreading throughout the company as we speak.

Something just happened in the last couple of hours, but details are still limited.

WHAT.. how come I cant edit my post? I am a horable speller, that on up there should be a one, and there should be a period after that nothing.

well I did get a confirmation for the rumer that its starting back up from that last manager, but that manager is waiting for further infos before doing anything.

well I found out what has happened, and I will remain mum for now but as to the details because it is still unofficial but it looks like someone does indeed want to buy and reopen the stores.

Involved parties are extremely optimistic that reopen will happen soon.
Final details should be available tomorrow...or by Friday at the latest.

Ok guys, I work at PC Club in Anaheim, CA.

I just want to let you know that we're going to be opening our doors on Monday.

My manager just called me to tell me that we are coming back... the unofficial word is that PC Club stores will be reopening their doors as early as Monday. As soon as the official announcement is made I will repost the awesome news. Clubit will probable reopen first because of the ease of bringing their logistics back online but the word is that managers across the company are calling their staffs and telling them that we will be reopening the doors as early as Monday.

So don't worry too much about this, there is a chance we will be reopening our doors at the start of next week after being Chapter 7'ed.

Hang in there guys,

- Matt

Disregard what I just posted, a friend got too excited and posted under my account name.

I cant confirm anything there, so yeah. Yay for no EDIT button.

I can confirm this from an annonymous source inside the company. Doors should reopen as early as next Monday. Someone came in and bought the store from the jerk that just bought the company about a month ago.

hey matt, beat that friend up for me would ya? with a wet stinky trout... and he knows who I am, you might know me too for I have called in as DEATH INCARNATE.

I guess if your old enough, you'd remember seeing the brick and mortar stores. They were called Egghead software but closed down and started newegg.com.

Nope.

Egghead was hurt by a December of 2000 revelation that hackers had accessed its systems and potentially compromised customer credit card data. The company filed for bankruptcy in August of 2001. After a deal to sell the company to Fry's Electronics for $10 million fell through, its assets were acquired by Amazon.com for $6.1 million.

Err.. sorry, no. Egghead and Newegg are in no way related to each other. Newegg was created from ABS Computer Technologies. The old brick and mortar Egghead Software, became Egghead.com which then was bought up by Amazon after filing for bankruptcy.

Damn I loved Egghead in my younger days back in St. Louis. I had a Hexen T-Shirt from buying the game from them ;)

*hopes it's true :(* It's just not the same only have NewEgg/ZZF/Fry's as my "tier 1" eTailers.

I also hope they try to retain the employees that got tossed out unceremoniously and without any warning.

Wow, you have been in technology forever! :D
(the trouble is so have I, I was going to make the same post then I saw yours, which was what I was going to say.)

well i would be happy for the people who get thier jobs back.... but i be damn if i would order from them

As long as the people who used to run PC Club are all gone, I hope for he best. I do feel bad for the new owners overcoming the bad rep a lot of stores got because of the nature of the company.

I can't confirm this from an annonymous source who's been probing around Uranus... but everything here about the return to business is all speculation and rumor anyway. We've already seen several posts that say "YES, They're BACK!11!" and "oh, btw.. don't listen to that I was wrong".

And, even if the speculation ends up being true... until they prove after a several month period that they are indeed running and operating as before, I wouldn't trust buying from them anyway. Newegg has my business and will continue to do so until I know that Club IT/Etc... won't just Chapter 7 to get out from its debt only to maybe, possibly if the rumors hold up, open for business 3 days later and run like nothing happened.

Not trying to be a dick, but who wants to deal with an operation like that until after they've proven themselves again at a later date.

just random thoughts after reading page after page of rumor/gossip mill stuff...

I don't think it'll be that big of a deal, honestly. They've only been closed a few days and saved by someone who's a fan of the company. It's a great company, and now with the crappy upper management gone, PC Club should return to its glory days. I for one will continue to buy there. Great local service, good prices (VERY comparable to online stores, and this is local!). I'm excited for one to go back when they re-open.

You are talking about something that doesn't apply. PC Club was fine. What happened was the new owner was screwing everyone and trying to take as much money for himself that he could. PC Club wouldn't have even filed for chapter 7 (oh, and just to remind everyone, they DIDN'T file for chapter 7, it was re-bought BEFORE they could do it). All the crappy upper management people are gone.
