So I purchased a cheap a$$ laptop from BestBuy for 4 bills...a Sony VAIO.

Came with Vista and 1GB (2x512s 667mghz)....(headslap)...

Couldn't FIND ANYWHERE any technical data regarding the hardware for this laptop on sony's site....

Chated with a silly CSR and she said the machine should have 2GB's of 533 in the stock unit....she also said that they can't guarantee that 4GB's will work...whatever that means...either it will or won't right?

I used newegg's memory finder and they recommended 1GB' modules of 533mz...

However, I went ahead and purchased 4GB's...(2x2GB's 667) from newegg as that was the better value...

I now have the unopended RAM and after second thought was thinking MAYBE the mobo of the laptop can't handle that much RAM...either 2GB in 1 slot or 4GB in 2 slots...and maybe I should try and return the RAM to newegg before I open.

Is this a possibilty?

Thanks

safe bet is that if it supports 2GB, it will only support a 2X1GB configuration.

It looks like a Santa Rosa-based system, so it should work with 4GB. It's up to you if you're willing to take the risk, but I think it would work.

Thanks for the replies...

the Egg said I could return the memory with 15% restock fee...even if opened.

So I'll try one 2GB stick...if it posts I'll open the other...

write another email to newegg about returning without restocking fee. they have waived it twice for me, they even paid for return shipping once.
