That's...kinda random a bit. You should try actually creating things and not just taking someone else's images and slapping the Artistic - Sponge, Craquelure, etc. filters on them though...anyone can do that.

I think the waves in the first blue image looked nice, but that filter just ruined the smooth, 3d water look in my opinion.

I just wanted to exercise some of the stuff cs3 can do. I was not planning anything to special. For the images, I wanted to see if the images changed to different textures and colors. The 8ball however I made using 3ds max and went to photoshop and lighten it up. The first image I wanted to see what it looked like if it was on a wall. Like I said, I wasn't aiming for spectacular. If you want to hate, then feel free to hate it. Doesn't really matter.

Edit: The last sentence sounds harsh which was not my intention so don't think I don't value your opinion. I in fact highly respect your opinion.

It's not to be mean, but most people add filters to other people's work then call it their own "art". I'm just not a fan of that. Oh and I couldn't see the 8ball, just the white paint and the specular part. You should maybe brighten up the background so the black ball is more visible...or you could add a reflective plane under it - that usually looks nice. Mmmm, blurry reflections *drool* /nerd

Ahh I see. Too me, random images on the internet are like found objects and I like to change it physical apperance as much as possible. Since they didn't really originate from me, it would be wrong to claim them as my own. For the 8-ball, I intended for it to shine really bright with a reflective surface. I seriously( and I really mean seriously) underestimated the power of ray-tracing. I could of use other lighting effects but I had another idea so I completely scrapped it. I thought about lighting the ball up more but I'm feeling extremely busy right now so I'll probably go back to it one day.

When I think about it,the only work I haven't focus on filter was a image I found and manipulated it so it looks like part of it is a drawing. I found a great tutorial about it on planetphotoshop.com

I hate blurred reflections, blurred refractions, ray tracing in general and GI! Grrrr. Things were easier back when the only ray tracing people were doing was the odd bit of ambient occlusion. Feh. Stupid long render times grumble grumble.

Oh boo-urns! You can't have realistic renders without those features so I love them. I don't like like long render times either, but that's why I have an overclocked quad-core CPU!..sure, the render times are still long depending on the scene, but they're 4 times less long! :D

We've got a 300 gigahertz Intel quadcore-based farm, and the render times are still a significant problem...

And sure you can have realistic renders without ray tracing everything.

I'd love to see that. :) For static images you can use one plane with an image for a texture, sure, but if you want realistic reflections while the camera moves, you can't fake them. (environment/cube maps work fine in games, but only because hardware can't do more than that) Too many materials in real-life have suble reflections and refraction, plus real-life has light bouncing. You can fake all that for images, but that doesn't work in every situation.

Also, I'd love to have a render farm like that. :D

Really soft and subtle reflections are done quite easily with specular lights. I do that quite often.

And you can do global illumination without ray tracing.

....

"stuff CS3 can do" is not filters... at all.

No one in high end design work or digital art really uses filters. There are a few (guassian blur, displace). But really, I can't stand it when: a) people take someone elses stuff, throw some filters on it and say its their own work, b) assume that filters are the main part of Photoshop.

What he said ^

Also, you don't need a render farm just to make realistic images. Just some patience, and a good knowledge of how lighting, shadow and caustics functions. (Depending what you are doing)

I figured after 5 responses, this topic would be dead. All I did was to have fun and except the 8 ball which I made, all were images found online. I know for sure filters is not everything cs3 can do with all the tutorials online but thanks for pointing that out. I really wish you would at least posted this like a month ago because damn, I really don't feel like responding back but somehow for some strange reason, I did.

Wow, I totally didn't see the post date, wasn't sure how fast this forum moved.

My bad :(

Ahh don't worry about it. I love the fact you gave your opinion about the stuff I did and I understand what you're saying.:)
