OK, my problem, I'm not getting any surround sound out of any game in STEAM (TF2, CS:Source etc...) I have a Claro Plus sound card. I have everything set at 7.1, I go into the games, set them to 7.1, and it gives me a red message stating "Stereo speaker configuration detected"

Latest drivers, Vista Ultimate 64 SP1, 9800 GX2, XFX 780i, 8GB Corsair, Q6600.

Any ideas?

You don't happen to be using optical or digital coax outputs, right? Because those are limited to stereo (except with sources that have DD/AC3/DTS encoding).

Nope, im using the analog 7.1 outputs to my HTR multi-channel input. Its hooked up the exact same way as when I had my SB Fa1ality.

check the Windows sound configuration in control panel? i think there is some option about allowing applications to configure sound preferences or something. you might have to configure 7.1 within windows itself?

I don't know if this card uses the Xear 3D control panel like other Oxygen HD cards (such as my Sondigo Inferno or Blugears b-Enspirer) but, if it does, you should make sure that the Audio Output section of the Main settings tab is set to 7.1. I have use both in Vista Ultimate to my receiver and this works fine to get multichannel sound from games and movies. I can even apply Dolby ProLogic IIx to up-mix 5.1 input to 7.1 output.

It is possible a that your basic Windows audio settings may be interfering as suggested by p4gs. You can check these and have Windows play test tones to verify that all speaker channels are in use and accessible by Windows as well.
