Trackmania Nations - Forever

I was heavy into Nations over a year ago. Its like a twitch shooter deathmatch racing game lol... I was so into nations because it was challenging. Not the solo, but the incredibly complex user made tracks. I spent 98% of the my time online on servers that had these insane maps. Rather than fighting to shave milliseconds off your best time like other racers, I was just trying to finish the tracks! I took that as a challenge and reason why I was so hooked.

I loved United, but sadly felt like no other gamers besides the french even knew about it, and it was so awesome. Now that Forever is out, I've found my game for the next few months, its even better. Trackmania is the best racing game ever. :p

Someone told me that the game won't start on his 9250 256MB PCI card. Does that video card support this game?

I wish the free version stored the medals on their server vs on the pc so that when I logged in from different computers the medals would follow me but they don't.

I currently have 51 medals.

I"ve been playing this a fair bit in the last week or so. This is also a great game for my son, who is 10.

Graphics are great, gameplay is super smooth. :D Does anyone else have a weird stuttering engine sound? I've turned off EAX and also doppler effects, but it's still there. I think it's there in single player too, but we spend pretty much the whole time racing online.

Also- does the free TMNF only allow you to use that one car? We've made some custom paint jobs for it, but it would be nice to be able to use different cars. Any thoughts?

Very fun game though. It's nice that the game is essentially a bunch of people trying to get the fastest times, not really racing laps against each other. The fact that there are no car-car collisions means that no one can just be a jerk and park their car in the middle of the track and mess everyone else up.

Anyone else have that werid engine noise issue?

Thanks.

The full version allows you to use six more cars, I believe, and gives you a ton more tracks. As soon as I'm done with the tracks on TMNF, I will purchase the full version.

And that's why I enjoy the multiplayer much more than that of Forza 2.

I've installed on 3 machines so far. The sig rig, an older e4300 with a x800 gto, and my current athlon 64 with a 440mx (4th generation nvidia, 2nd generation performance). No stuttering issues.

This game will run on some super old systems (like my athlon laptop with a 440mx video card), albeit with very basic graphics. I could not get my TMNF to run on my laptop at first but upon perusing the TM forums, found that the file d3dx9_30.dll was missing from my folder. By doing a quick google for the file and placing it in my system folder , I was able to get it running. It looks horrible, but is still surprisingly fluid.

My my laptop can do it, his 9250 should be able to.

Something is up with this game. I downloaded it twice and it's having some issues with my mouse and keyboard. Seriously, my mouse doesn't work and the menu goes nuts when trying to select anything. Then when I do get in the game, I can't even go anywhere. WTF?

About the cars. You can download different car models that work with TM Nations (tmexchange), however the tracks and physics are all stadium style. When you buy Tm United, you recieve 6 more types. ( Island, desert, bay, rally, snow and coast ) as well as stadium. The cars are different, and so is the playing style, handling and track selection. I really love island because it feels much faster than anything in stadium. My other favorite is coast tracks, because the cars are more simulation than arcade, requiring more speed control, braking and hitting the line perfectly.

Sadly however if anyone is thinking of getting united, there are hardly anyone playing the other styles besides stadium online. There are 1/5 of the united servers as there are tmn stadium servers. If you do find a united server, however, it still sucks because there won't be many people playing on them. Solo play gives you a TON more tracks and offline medals to pick up however, so TM United is still worth buying.

Supporting publishers that make quality games like this is going to be my primary reason for buying the full game, even if I don't utilize the online features of the non-stadium tracks. I still can't believe how much the game is free...

Currently at 146 medals. Does the black (final) difficulty in stadium only have 5 tracks?

I agree. Trackmania nations is the best free game you can get, and the franchise has given us nothing but top notch entertainment. You get small but complex tracks for free online, and there are thousands... Great music and some musical variety with other tracks.. All cars are customizable and easily uploaded to show off online... Did I mention the bazillion tracks?? How about the awesome multiplayer with no major setbacks due to latency? I could go on and on really.. The scoring system is even better now and its pretty cool to see the standings right down to the top 10 state / province as well as country and worldwide overall.

The black difficulty I'm not sure about because when they released the "forever" patch, they changed the menu style. Im pretty certain they didn't have the color categories, but categorized it by car type and bronze, silver, gold races or something... anyways its different, and I've spent almost all my time scoring online rather than solo.

Once I unlocked the final black track and saw that it was a 60 (SIXTY) lap endurance race with only one medal (nadeo medal), I quit playing the singleplayer, lol. Online is still a blast though

This is one of my favorite games of all time. Nations got me hooked. But, these days it seems that no game can pull me away from TF2.

This game doesn't like my aging Audigy2ZS. Whenever I try to run it I get a BSOD referring to my soundcard drivers.

It may have changed since you last played then. I just unlocked the first black track and it was a super crazy obstacle course. Gold was 47 seconds, Nadeo was 45 seconds. I couldn't even get a bronze, let alone finish! Actually, I finished once and it was a 1:35 after trying the last jump 3 times.

I don't think I'm down to do sixty laps.

Nope, I checked again and it's 60 laps. The nadeo medal is like 1 hour and 5 minutes

I have an original copy of united can i use th cd key on steam so i dont have to keep inserting the cd every few days?

Way too many gimmicky tracks in whatever mode you choose....to the point where it's not racing but puzzle solving. Not very entertaining IMO.

That's kindof the whole point. It is not a realistic racer. It's a stunt/puzzle racer.

what a great game... i play it daily since i posted here. I bought the full version to support the developpers.

It is a neat game. I grew bored with it though. Just not my genre of racing.

I had a lot of fun with TM over the past few weeks, played it a lot.. but as others have said, the user created maps can sometimes make you completely nuts, some of them are so POORLY designed that you just keep resetting over and over just trying to make a jump or get through certain parts... and before someone says it, of course there are maps that are well designed and just very challenging.. it's just weeding through the bad ones that's the problem.. overall I've gotten bored with the game too, there's lots of different tracks but it's always the same cars, same stadium environment, nothing else changes..

I can totally understand why people can get bored with the game. The free one give you acess to 80% of the game by itself.

The solo game is fun and challenging too and can increase greatly your skills with a SHITload of map to practice on. There is also different cars ( wich handles very differently ) and other location.

They made a good move by making the online side of this game free for all. WHy? it gives the paying user a HUGE community to look forward to...
