GTA 4: PS3 or 360?

im pretty sure the original game has enough content....

If i had both systems, i would get PS3....i donno why, just cuz..

since i have Xbox....well im getting Xbox

I only got an Xbox for GTA4 and Madden....and i got the Xbox because it was much cheaper than the PS3

Well, pre-ordered the PS3 version on Amazon....I am stoked. I would get it on PS3 as it does have better graphics (confirmed).

well the 20gb 360 is 350 and you have no HD drive unless you buy on for another 200.

PS3 is 399 with a upgradable HDD and a Blu-ray drive

I like how small variations between contrast and color saturation have become "ps3 has better graphics confirmed".

Why can't they give the 360 version an option to install???

It makes no sense to me, if it helps with loading and pop in issues, you would think they'd at least give it an option to do.

MIcrosoft shot themselves in the foot making a crappy non-hd version of the 360, that was one of the xbox's main advantages over any other console and then they did that...makes no sense.

PS3 will probably get the content around the same time a PC version is released. A long ass time.

Rockstar already said they're not handling PC development and that a PC version of GTA4 might not see the light of day. I expect a crappy port farmed out to some Eastern European studio. ;)

I will be getting it for the PS3 since i don't have a 360, but what i would like to know is.

MS paid 50m for exclusive content for their 360 customers and when this content is avilable 360 owners will still have to pay to get it?

so lets say there are 10m 360's in North America and each one of the buys the content from MS at say, 15.00 dollars, well if my math is correct thats $150000000

now sure these are pretty liberal numbers but even cut it in half its still 75000000 thats still pretty good bank, and thats only if MS releases it all at once and not multiple smaller packages at 6-12 dollars, so i don't think MS is dumb at all, they are hedgging their bets that the 50m investmet would net them a profit plus the XBL subscription increase, guess we will see if pays out for MS in the long run.

but to think that there will not be any content for the PS3 is silly, rockstar wouldn't do that to themselves. it may not be the same as the 360 stuff but there will be content.

Now to the install debate, WHY in hells name would you not want the game installed, who cares if it takes 5-10 mins, fast load times alone would be worth it. thats one of the things i love the most about my PS3 i took out the 40GB and installed a 160GB and have all the room i will ever need.

and just a point of refrence, Gears of War for the PC took 30 mins to install, a MS title.

Honestly, don't kill yourself about the figures. From what I've seen Microsoft have paid them money and do get exclusive episodes but from what I am seeing they also have exclusive Ad Spots (ie no PS3 ones) and have always been the 'demonstrated' version through development.

My personal opinion is that it's as much about trying to get the PKU sales as it is the DLC. I have an XBox, I have points, I still hardly ever get DLC. GTA is still my favourite game series, by a fucking country mile, but I would still need to be convinced of something special to spend 6-8 pounds on it and I can't see what they can possibly offer that will make 10 million people spend five bucks.

I have an XBox already, I sold my PS3, I'm tempted to just go and buy another PS3 just as a fingers up to MS, they don't care but at the end of the day I've been through 5 360's, the noise does my head in and I don't agree with the way they're charging for live and then doing deals like this with publishers, I'm a big one for competition on merits sake and have issues with companies that don't try and sell with a positve message and show you why their product is better.

Voting with my dollars and all that. Not practical but feck it. I might be able to get a copy in advance if I offer my local game retailler to purchase a PS3 and pay a bit extra for GTA lol

Ok, do me a favor, go back and read my post a few pages back and this will all make sense. Since I'll assume you won't do that, I'll repeat myself here even though I hate doing that...

MS paid for 2 EXCLUSIVE EPISODES ($25,000,000 per episode) of expanded content.
1) It was never actualy stated that this was strictly Downloadable Content. The term Downloadable Content is something used by journalists/fans, not executives at Take Two, MS, or Rockstar. I imagine that means that in any way, shape, or form, the content is exclusive to MS (IE, no releasing on a DVD for PS3) and the terms "Episodes" and "Episodic Content" were used originally by a Take Two executive, not a random developer who may not know the details of the deal like many of these other quotes are coming from.
2) Microsoft does not "sell" the content itself. It did not buy the actual content, it bought the exclusive rights to distribute it. MS does get a small royalty on all DLC sold, but they do not get all the money, they get a small part. They didn't purchase the rights to the DLC expecting it to pay back itself, they expected it to sell systems. They did it so that the people who haven't committed to a console and want the game withh pick 360 over PS3
3) COD4, the most popular game currently on XBL and one of the best selling 360 games yet, only made $10,000,000 (IE, 1,000,000 sold) on the DLC they released nearly a month ago. While GTA4 will do well, I highly doubt it will sell more than 5,000,000 at most.
4) The only content confirmed for PS3 is HOME content, nothing in-game. While people constantly read into what people say and rumors run rampant, until it's officially announced I wouldn't hold your breath. MS didn't pay $50,000,000 for nothing.

A person with Rockstar on the development team said in an interview the PS3 will likely get DLC. It might not ever see the two DLC episodes X360 is getting, but it's naive to believe PS3 won't get DLC in the future.

There was never a direct quote of that. The person was paraphrased by the writer. The writer worked for a Playstation magazine... Biased much?

If you read my math in the last post, and comprehended it, you'd see that it will take an insane amount of sales for Rockstar to make $50,000,000 off DLC. It's not naive to think PS3 won't get any, it's examining the FACTS and making a judgement. Could I be wrong? Yes, but you are just as likely wrong. It's truly naive to think that Rockstar would go against their MS contract to release the content on PS3 and make nowhere near the money they already got paid.

So it's your contention he completely made that up ?

You are underestimating. It will easily make back the 50 million. It has to or they owe MS money ! If they only sell a million downloads, it will break even or make money. I think it will sell a lot more than that. Remember these DLC episodes are supposed to provide 10 hours of game content. That will cost more than 800 points.

It's very naive to believe 50 million was enough to buy them out, ensuring PS3 can never get DLC from Rockstar. I'm not even going to argue this point with you as this has clearly been a rough day for X360 GTA4 fans. ;)

No, but a quote like "there is a very slight possibility" could easily be paraphrased biased to "They want to do it"

Where are you getting that they have to pay it back? And yes it will cost more than $10, but unless it's $25, 1,000,000 sales won't break even. And even if it does, not all that money goes to MS. Read my damn post before criticizing it.

50 Million is alot more than you're giving it credit for, especially considering it's just for some extra content they were going to release anyways.

Rational Thought > Fanboyism...

first please don't assume.

second i think you took my post a little to seriously, i was just spitballin about what could be, may or may not happen, it was a exersize in thinking out loud at what could be potentialy gained by MS if in fact thats how it went.

i don't work for MS so i don't know what the fuck they are thinking, and to be truthful neither do you, nor do any of us, is all hear say and speculation.

and last but not least, you say you don't like repeating yourself but yet you seem to be doing it a lot :)

its all just fun and games :)

I like how small variations between contrast and color saturation have become "ps3 has better graphics confirmed".

No I think he is reffering to the pop up that is evident on the 360 version, but don't let mentioning that put you off ;)

Well, after checking out 3 reviews, I think the PS3 version's the way to go for me. If the DLC turns out to be good, perhaps by then the PC version will be out. If not, I've got no problem selling the PS3 one and buying the 360 version.

Then you must be deaf.

it's not the 360. It's almost EVERY 360 at some point in time. ;)

Btw, yes, i also have a 360 but i'm not blind nor deaf like you.

o rly?
Because the absolute worst estimate of 360 failure rate was 33%. Thats hardly "EVERY 360"....

Ok, let me rephrase it: Every 3rd Xbox360 fails. All of them are loud.

Cool. Sounds much better.. :D

If you actually read the review, it says popup happens a bit more on the xbox version, implying that it exists on both systems. People who didn't actually read the review give me gas.

Meh... the loudness issue is a perspective. I don't think mine with the BenQ drive is loud at all when there is game audio going on.

Jesus... this thread is starting to remind me why I hate gaming boards on the internet lately.

Should I get the game (I'm actually still on the fence), I'll get it for the 360. The main reason is I don't have a PS3 yet, but I think even if I did I'd still get it for the Xbox. More friends of mine own 360's, so the online experience would most likely be more enjoyable for me. Plus the DLC and achievements will be a nice bonus.

LOL ...and you know this how?

Jesus, that most is starting to remind me why I hate people lately...
Ermm.. I mean, maybe you should stop reading this thread then? :D

For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.

But which is reported to be worse? There is your answer......

I'm sure everyone that buys it on whichever machine will enjoy it, regardless of how much pop up there is :D

I've never heard my DVD drive in my 360 over the sound of a game that I'm focusing on. *shrug*

I'd hardly call a 3% to 5% failure rate Microsoft has said, "EVERY 360" :p. It's a standard issue for the industry, but the hype machine already has been in overdrive for a long time on this non-issue.

I will be getting it on the PS3 mainly cause I am scared my X360 is going to blow up again. It only really gets played for in-house multi-player in like COD3 these days :)
I don't care about paying more for the DLC content...im sure i will be happy with the game as it is.

On that note, if you only have a X360 get it for that and visa versa. I am pretty sure the game will be close enough that you won't hate yourself for not getting one or the other.
*Not taking into account the

I guess you missed their revised numbers at 16%, which is still probably below the true numbers. Thats not a standard issue.

Dude it's rumored to be upwards of 33% and MS confirmed like 16% and if I'm not mistaken the norm should be 3% or under.
That rock you've been living under has to be getting pretty fucking heavy by now.

I love my 360, but out of 8 friends in my group who plays, ONE person has their original console still. I have my 4th currently. First two had dvd drive failures. The drive would start buzzing like a lawnmower.

The 360 has a spectacular failure rate, and it's a shame.

Aye... and they still haven't managed to get reliable refurbs to people either just because they wont give them HDMI versions (unless they had one in the first place).

Funny you should mention that. My friend at work sent his in, for RRoD. The loaner they sent him, while his is getting fixed, just RRoD'd. Sometimes, when it rains, it pours. :(
