The official "clean desktop" club.

Am I the only one who does this? It's so easy, yet I'm the only person I've seen on here who does it...
That's a huge bar and takes up more space than it needs to when you have it appear. You could do the same with a dock and it would look a lot nicer. That or you could just not use icons on your desktop and use an alternate shell such as litestep :D

Foob.

(I'm a minimalist of the highest order, and yet... I just cannot get over how stupid some of those 4 letter icons/labels are. No offense to the guy above. Tons of people are using them.)
Some of them are laughable (foob lol). But it looks a lot cleaner than having a bunch of different shaped/colored icons.

foob lol...

Or SharpE, which is probably my personal favorite of the Explorer alternatives. It's not nearly as flexible as LiteStep, but it's small and functional, and much more usable 'out of the box' generally speaking.

Don't really keep anything on mine :) Love this wallpaper so much..

What dock is it that you are all using that uses that font with the reflection and such? It looks really nice. I was using stardock for a while a while back, but got rid of it and went back to basics, but i gotta say those look really nice.

heres my new one. I "borrowed" the simple samurize theme from WicKeDcHilD and kind of made my own version

I don't know, but I think it's pretty :)

i definitely need to finish haruhi suzumiya... i'm on 6 atm.. well sort of 6 and sort of not, weird ass series...

anyway, <3 audio-technica so that wallie is awesome!

Definitely, SharpE is very clean and usable "out of the box" like you said. If I wasn't such a customization whore I would use this instead.

Awesome, thanks a bunch shadowlord. i appreciate the help.

EDIT: since I have a bunch of things on my dock that didn't exist in that icon pack i ended up making my own, so I figure I might as well post up my desktop. I think it can qualify for being a clean minimal desktop. The wallpaper is one I saw on an earlier page of this thread and I thought it was pretty sweet so I'm using it for now. Here's a screen:

I'm using rocketdock and I got the stackdocklet as well, which I think is pretty neat:

yeah, but max is 1024x768. i just checked it out again, you can do higher, but you gotta pay to upgrade to the 'pro' package to get high res i guess. Also, have you been hanging out with doc brown and helping him test out the delorean? just wondering, because it seems you took that screenshot in the near future. ;)

Just use imageshack.us

No membership even required and basically no res limit.

Resolution is 1680x1050, but photobucket maxes out at 1024 x 768. Anyone know a site that will host high res images, just for future reference? Thanks.

Imageshack.us

Pictures as large as you want, as long as they're under 1.5mb. You can have it resize it for you too if you should want a smaller size (say for a forum)

EDIT: Oh, I was beat to it. You can create an account on imageshack to store you images. But if you just want to quickly upload it, it's the best.

hehe, your welcome. post an update to see if it posts at normal size...

i threw some thumbnails in the post that go to the full size image. i posted the full size ones at first, but i wasn't sure if people want to be bombarded with huge pics when they're going through the thread, haha. worked perfect though.

CLock3... so you made those dock icons huh? Nice!
I recently made my own set of text icons for the same reason as you... but you must tell me how you added the reflection... I haven't figured out how to do that one yet.

It's not too hard really. I didn't know how until I decided to make my own, haha, so I did some research. I did it in photoshop. I'd explain how to do it, but the site I used probably does a better job of doing so, haha, so I'll just give you the link to it. Here it is. Or, if you don't have photoshop or don't feel like doing it, I could probably help you out and do the reflections for you. It wouldn't take too long to do as long as you don't have like 30 icons you need done, haha. If you want to do that PM me and I'll have you send me the icons and I'll do it for you.

Thanks... I'll try to follow the tutorial and see what I can accomplish. I will definitely take you up on your offer if I run into a wall however. Heck, maybe we could even collaborate on a sweet icon set or something. Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.

So after looking through this thread some more I began to like the yahoo widgets, and decided to try it out. I kept the desktop nice and clean though. The only one visible at all times is the "informer" or whatever it is, and the itunes bar. the rest I have set up to only show when ctrl+home is pressed. Here's some shots:

and here is when ctrl+home is pressed:

the widgets are a pretty cool feature. some of them are pretty handy.

Here's my latest... I made some nice blue text icons with reflections (thanks CLock3) and I posted them for download on my Deviant Art. I'm going to make some more with different fonts and colors too.
If anyone's interested let me know and I'll post the link. <----- That's what you call a shameless plug :p
