no its not a TN, but have you seen any TN's in 6ms boxes? Its still a usefull tip if you have the choice. But considering how common defects are in monitors, it only halfs the chance of making a trip back to the store :p

just thought i'd post some pics of my monitor (6ms *VA), i've had it for about 1.5 months, have not had any problems whatsoever with it other than 4 stuck pixels, which i can't see unless I go exploring for them

i'm using an ergotron neo-flex stand, i didn't like the one that came with it btw

:D we have the same phone. VX8300

Looks good though, I'm planning to get that Geeks.com/Ebay dual LCD mount for ~$40 and put both my Soyo's on that... need a new desk first...

I've had my 11/2007 1 week now.. runs cool, no stuck pixels, perfect perfect.. beautiful color. Going to pick up my 2nd one today.. hopefully another 11/2007. Will report back soon with results. I'm going to ask the guy grabbing me one if I can open the box up (since there's no seals to break) to examine the manufacturer date.. hopefully he doesn't act all crazy about it. If he doesn't let me something along the lines of me saying "Well i'll just open it up in the parking lot and walk right back in with it' does the trick, cause oh, I will! They have a 14 day return policy, no restocking fee, i'm not going to let them try to control the situation. I hope my 2nd panel doesn't have any stuck/dead pixels. I would say the cause of all the stuck/dead pixels are from the cheap packaging.. I was surprised how easily removable the panels are from the box.

Well I just got back from Office Max.. they only had one screen left (different store than my first unit).. There was nobody around so I didn't want to exactly open the box without asking anybody so I just impulse bought it and cracked it open at my car and saw that it also has a 11/2007 build date.. it was in a 6ms box so that makes me happy that it's already the same build month as my original.. Hoping for no dead/stuck pixels and I should be really happy with the total investment for 48 inches of desktop space for $599.99 in the end.. Doesn't get better than that for a dual *VA setup.

Well in case you decide to return your panel, my experience with this is that they tend to put the sound alarms on the items on the floor, but if you can find a stepstool to reach the stacked Soyos then you can open them. An employee walked right by me while I was doing this and didn't seem to care. Of course maybe she was just the mellow type, who knows, but I assume as long as you explain yourself or tell the parking lot story they will understand. You can also check on some of the boxes for a sticker that records their arrival date or month. In my experience they seem to usually have an arrival date that is 2-3 months after the month of manufacture.

Got my 2nd Soyo setup last night and to my dismay it has 1 stuck pixel (on blue).. Ran a color flashing video on the area over night and it didn't fix it. Also tried the rubbing trick and nothing.. Oh well, it's so hardly noticeable i'm not even going to worry about it. More importantly with minimal setting adjustments the screen matches my original screen to about 98% percent. Will need a colorimeter to get it to 100%.. I'm just happy to have found 2 of the same month build with minimal problems.

Now i'm wanting to find a solvent that will remove the printed Soyo/Topaz S name off the LCD bezel.. Tried using nail polish remover and it actually makes the black turn to gray (DO NOT TRY THIS).. Any other ideas?

do you guys use the brightness on the "high light" menu? I am having some trouble configuring the brightness... some things look too bright while at the same time other things look too dark

I turned off the high-light feature, and used my built-in Nvidia program to try to set the colors/brightness right... seems to work pretty well...

Dont want to void my 2 yr warranty

I have a 1yr, by then I'll probably have some decent money and upgrade to 30" or IPS 24"... or if those 22" 1920x1200 monitors come down in price more.

Either way, I'm not planning to keep these Soyos forever, they're good... for the price... but not the best monitor...

Correction, their great for the price, $300.... They would be good if they were $450. Specially considering how VA panels are getting rare besides the $600+ market stalwarts. DS and Planars 26" ips don't seem like they will be around for much longer either.

I would kill for two 24" S-IPS Hazro or NEC's, but by the time I'm ready to drop +2k on dual displays, OLEDs might be on the market in force... which could very well be in a year or two.

I have a one year warranty on mine. By then I'll probably move up to at least 28".

new problem with the monitor and just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this. anyways, the picture just goes blank. it doesnt go into standby as the light stays blue. i turn it off, turn it back on and i get a picture for a split second and then it goes blank. once again, blue light, no red light, no "no signal" message.

btw, anyone know if you can just take the monitor back to the store if you past the initial 30 days but have that officemax replacement plan?

i'm trying to figure out what "High-light" menu you guys are talking about, is this something listed in the manual because the OSD doesn't say high-light anywhere

Yes, you should be able to do an exchange at the store if you have the replacement plan.

If you're using the DVI cable that came with it, try a different one (if you have one, of course) first. There have been all kinds of reports of issues from people using the obviously terrible quality cables that come with the monitor.

How is this monitor stacking up to fps gaming guys? Notice any input lag or slow response times?

Yea I put on Vsync to reduce tearing, because that is slightly annoying... but it'll happen with any LCD monitor.

Think I am going to go down and see if my local office max has any in stock, what exactly should I be looking for to make sure it's not the TN panel version?

6ms box, or if you get a 3ms box, check the manufacturing date (back of the LCD screen)

11/07 = Win. MVA Panel...

12/07 = Maybe TN, Maybe MVA, you gotta test it first...

I remember someone in this thread talking about another Soyo model called Prive. The model number is PRLM24D4, and it's exactly the same specs as the DYLM24D6. I'm wondering if that's the same Optronics P-MVA screen (it's rated at 6ms response time rather than the new DYLM24D6 which was amended on the Soyo website to 3ms for the new TN screens).

I've seen buy.com selling the PRLM24D4s for 329 after shipping which is pretty much the same price with taxes for the Office Max DYLM24D6.

Anyone have the PRL? Is it P-MVA? I'm guessing it would be with that 6ms response time...

Oh, I didn't catch the brightness difference
I thought the viewing angles were 170/160 on the DYLM24D6s, though.

Yeah just a clerical error though, or Soyo knew preemptively they were going to be shoving TNs into them eventually.

Click the MODE button on the side of your monitor for the second OSD.

Haha, maybe...

Either way, the big difference was 300nits vs. 500nits, and 3ms vs 6ms..

And the manufacturing date... anything 11/07 and before is guarenteed MVA, 12/07 is when (We think) they started switching to TN panels.

I bought my 2nd one a couple weeks ago and it was made back in 11/07 (I ordered online too) which means mine had been sitting somewhere for 4 months...

The first one I got in September and it had a 7/07 date...

Local office max has one thats a white and blue box and says 6ms response time. He opened it up and the back listed manufactured: 2007.10 look good?

Alright, picked it up and I am VERY impressed. Finally I found a monitor worth keeping, I was curious tho does this monitor need a driver? It did not come with a driver disk and was unsure if it needed it or if I needed to download it from the soyo website?

You shouldn't need one, monitor drivers are meant for like windows 95 and 98...

1920 x 1200 @ 60hz is what you should set it to, XP does that fine.

Not really.

Ahh I see, I swear I must be retarded because I cannot work the menu on this monitor for the life of me.

What settings are you guys running with this monitor? I think mine is a bit to bright and I would like the color to "pop" more than it is.

Reported settings are all over the place, really. You'll have to play with the settings to get something you like. I tried using other's settings when I first got my Soyo monitor, and they just didn't work.

The menu is pretty ridiculous, I think I got it memorized by hand now, because I can adjust settings without thinking but lawd it was confusing when I first got it.

Terrible menu system... luckily you only have to set it up once :)

I wish I could assign one button to toggle between inputs, like this old Viewsonic I had (which had 2 DVI and 1 VGA input, super handy)

You may have the highlight option on. Click the MODE button on the monitor and turn it off if it is.

It's been pretty hard getting them calibrated right, but it's close enough for now... only using my eyes/nvidia's built in calibration tool... D=

I don't care about super accuracy, I just want them to look the same... -_-

My experience was the opposite of you lot. First off my Nvidia control panel is retarded when it comes to dealing with multi panel desktops, resets every startup so I had to completely do it by monitor settings. Could not, nomatter what, get the right light/dark/contrast balance without using highlight. Also took the opprotunity to set my l245wp right free of the nvidia control panel, which also got rid of nasty banding on that.
