My xbox360 was stolen this weekend when I was away (long story....) Anyway, Im concerned about my live account. I migrated my account to my brother's xbox360 and changed my account password. Im pretty sure that makes it safe as I understood from the representitive I talked to when I called MSoft. My real concern is that I want to know if the credit cards I had in use on my account were actually stored on my 360's hard drive. Or are they stored only on my account when the account is active on the xbox? Anyone know?

More than likely they're stored on a server ran by Microsoft and not locally on your hard drive. I wouldn't worry too much.

That is what I figured. I'm just looking to see if someone has definitive knowledge of this... I dont want to have to cancel my cards if theres no reason to.

They should be tied to your account. Technically they ARE stored on the actual Xbox, but the only person that should be able to use them is your own profile, and if you changed your password and migrated your account, that person shouldn't be able to sign back in without knowing your information and migrating it back.

Yeah if you have a friend with an xbox 360 recover your account onto his box and then delete it. The account on your stolen xbox will no longer work.

Sadly I think microsoft makes it a PITA to remove your credit card from your account. The easiest way might be calling M$.

if you have changed your password on your account and everything your xbox wont log in automaticly when the person turns on...

i think you will be ok

My account is recovered on my brother's 360 and the password has been change. So is it the general consensus that the credit cards are NOT stored on the hard drive and only exist on my live account on some server?

^ Correct. They wouldn't store the credit cards on the hard drive, for the same reasons you wouldn't store it on your computer.

Can they ban that consoles GUID from Live on your word it was stolen? It would annoy whoever stole it if they kept it, or whoever buys it from teh pawnshop.

CCs are never written to the hard drive.

If your local law enforcment wants to follow up and make a request for information on the box in question that may help locate the thief if they hook up the box and turn it on. Sadly, it's often difficult to get law enforcment to make such a request unless there was a lot of other stuff stolen as well. We're unable to provide such information to individuals, only to police after they make the request.

That sucks that your 360 was stolen, but it sounds like you've taken care of everything, and should be fine.

No kidding. There's really no reason for it to be so hard to remove a card from your account. I mean sure, it's easy to add/change to a new one, but to just delete a card from your account altogether, they've really gotta' get their act together.

Huh? I have a creditcard.txt file on my desktop with all of my CC numbers.

Is that not safe?!

are you nuts? That's like doing all the work for the hackers. All they have to do is copy the file from ur desktop and goodbye.

Wow.

Couldn't MS trace the box to the login that they try to use on it? I think I heard somewhere about someone doing this and recovering their system.

LOL The trick is to throw them off with a filename like "notcreditcardnumbers.txt" :D
