Steam making me mad

I am trying to run a game (TF2). Just got it yesterday (brand new from someone) and I was getting an error. Figured it was because I just installed. But No....Steam has to be gay (I would have not installed it but since I had too I did).

I keep getting a dialog box that says:

This game is currently unavailable.
Please try again at another time.

It is so gay. ONCE it loaded up but wouldn't respond (stayed at loading screen) so I just ended it.

I have tried to re-install The Orange Box, and delete the blob file twice while restarting Steam and nothing. Deleted STEAM and TOB (everything even from program files), re-installed, updated, and NOTHING!

WTF do I do?

if you have it in your fav's list, try removing it from there. I had a problem with some of my steam games when it was there.

Also, try ending the hl2.exe file in the processes, then try opening TF2 again.

Try opening "My Games" and right click the game.
Properties/Local Files/Verify Integrity of game cache.

Sometimes a file gets corrupted and Steam will re-download it.

By any chance did you overclock your computer? Strange as it seems, but when i pushed my CPU to 3.6ghz it couldnt recognize some of my files.. when i downclocked it to 3.5ghz everything was fine.

That really is a weird problem, did you try contacting Steam support? I've never dealt with them so I don't know how good it is.

had this very same happen to me with half-life 2 .. dont play mulitplayer ... have reinstalled even after a OS reinstall and it continues to do it.. so... Just took it off and dont play it any longer.

There is file (dont remember name) with info about connections to Steam servers - delete it. Or you can reinstall steam.

delete clientregistry.blob and then quit and restart steam

its in your drive\valve\steam folder

Ding ding ding ding.

I love these posts that could be eliminated if people used (replace with favorite search engine).

He says he already deleted the .blob file twice and restarted Steam with no effect.

First you get over your prejudice against gay people. So your saying Steam is homosexual? Or is steam really happy?

So, which is it?

Next, did you do any research on the problem on the internet before you started making your unfounded slurs?

Did it ever occur to you that Steam might be having a temporary problem and will work fine soon?

He probably got frustrated to the point he couldn't control what he was thinkin' come on.. it's TF2!!! ;).

All jokes aside, yeah he should have not used what he did to get his point across, but hope he gets his steam fixed soon.

I'm not going to discuss my views on what you posted above, but around here, and if you are talking to me, if I say this is "gay", it means this is stupid/idiotic/unreasonable.

I did research the problem. Like I said, I deleted the blob files, re-installed everything, re checked everything, and still didn't work.

Yes I did think of that and that is why I waited: Considering other people are still playing TF2 while this is going on, I kind of think that it might just be my problem and not others...

Before you add your 2 cents, please think.

TO ALL THE OTHERS, thanks for helping. Those links are not working for me Azureth for some reason. I deleted all local content though, and instead of installing it from CD, I am downloading it from Steam and going to install it that way. I also disabled AVG FREE as I heard that might be conflicting with it, so we will see.

I just wanna play TF2. This is one of the best multiplayer games I have ever played! I sold my PS3 version for the PC version because I wanted to prolong playing with more people and maps too lol!

Question

I get the Error: 'This game is currently unavailable' when connecting through Steam
Answer
Initial Troubleshooting Steps

1. Exit and restart Steam
2. If the issue persists, exit Steam and delete the clientregistry.blob file under the Steam installation directory (C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\ or C:\Program Files\Steam\ by default) and restart Steam
3. If deleting the clientregistry.blob file does not resolve the issue, please exit Steam and delete everything under the Steam installation directory except Steam.exe and the /SteamApps folder - this will force Steam to update when you log in
4. If the issue persists, please see the Verifying GCF Cache Files article for instructions to repair your game cache files
5. Also, this error can be caused by having certain Steam files set to Read Only. To resolve this:
* Exit Steam.
* Navigate to the directory where you installed Steam. (Typically C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files\Valve\.)
* Right-click on the Steam folder.
* Select Properties.
* Check the Read-Only checkbox and press Apply.
* Uncheck the Read-Only checkbox and press Apply.
6. Disable all background applications, including Anti-Virus software and Firewalls.

For more information, please see the Disabling Background Applications topic.

For information about the Windows Firewall, please view the Using a Firewall with Steam topic.
7. Double-check your router configuration to make sure that it is properly configured for Steam. If bypassing the router by connecting directly to your Cable/DSL modem allows the game to work correctly, then please consult the Using a Router with Steam topic for more detailed instructions on configuring your router.

Third Party Games

In some cases, this issue can be resolved by installing or reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package.

For 32-bit Processors, please install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

For 64-bit Processors, please install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64)

Note:

We have received reports that the use of the Nostromo speedpad's software may generate this error message - if you are using the Nostromo speedpad, please remove the game's executable file from the associated game field in the loadout manager and start the game through the "My Games" tab in Steam for troubleshooting purposes.

I'd really recommend installing the Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package, I was having that same issue with Soulstorm and instaling that worked.

I use to hate steam, until I rebuilt my computer, downloaded the steam client, told it to download 7 or 8 games, went to bed and woke up with 8 games fully installed, updated, patched, verified, and ready to play without having to look for a single CD, code, or other bullshit.

Same here....:p

Would you say it's making you . . . steaming mad?

Oh, I do slay myself.

I just reduced my clock to stock speed (2.4), then closed all programs except ATI center running in background, and nothing. I hate Steam so much.

You said you just got the game/installed it/error?
Maybe part of the DVD/CD was unreadable during the install and that's why Steam is borked?

Still not sure why Steam wouldn't re-download any file causing the problem?

I'd try wiping off steam completely. Downloading the steam client directly, then having it download the game if you havn't yet.

As vengence suggested, your CD's key should activate a downloaded version. Worth a try anyway.

What OS are you running?

you can try running the game in Admin mode through the shortcut.

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=670608&highlight=Error+unavailable

Lots of people are having this issue, and it appears to be having issues after a patch is released, not sure if the servers are at their maximum (highly doubt it) or something didnt get sent to you to update the game so it see's your old version and says its unavailable.

I didnt look to see if someone posted the fix it faq that has some things aside from the blob delete to try;

https://support.steampowered.com/kb...29;♥♥♥♥4595-WEXN-6831

You could also try to backup your local content, then delete the local content (not your backup) and force steam to redownload the files and possibly the update's.

Others have contacted steam support about the issue without a reply after several days, my guess is they are trying to figure out exactly what is going on themselves.

Even with its issues steam is far from gay, calm down.

Wow that guy is having the same problem. The admin mode or XP mode doesn't work. I have also tried deleting it ALL from my system, restarting, re-downloading Steam, then downloading TF2 and playing, and doesn't work.

This is freaking ridiculous.

(Knock on wood) I love steam, have used since it first came out (still was on dial-up). I have never had issues with it. I'm surprised that by having steam download and install TF2, it didn't fix the issue...

What other games do you have installed? Is windows up to date? Have there been any windows updates you don't want to install? Is windows firewall running? Is a 3rd part firewall running? What is you network setup? Have you tried starting the game by finding a server first?

I GOT IT!!! I let HL2.EXE and HL.EXE through the firewall, and it worked!!!! THANKS SO MUCH GUYS!

Note to self, next time someone has a new account and has problems with something make sure to ask questions like "Is your computer plugged in" before you start...

Go into the steam install dir and then open up the steamapps folder, make a copy of all the .gcf files in there (these are the packages that steam games are installed and run from - essentially what is downloaded when you buy/activate the game)

Make a safe backup of these files somewhere completely outside of the steam install directory, then uninstall steam and completely delete the steam directory. Reinstall from their latest installer and load it up, run all the steam updates to update the platform until it's the latest copy, then close steam, copy the .gcf files back into the steamapps directory. Then launch steam and select the games you want to install, it will see you already have the packages and download any missing bits if necessary, providing you've copied everything it should install imediately and let you play.

I've never really had to do this myself and can't gurantee it will work, but if it doesn't work then I'd suggest either your problem is with your hardware, or the steam packages (.gcf files) are corrupt and you'll need to delete them and re-download them from scratch.

*edit*

yes...or your firewall is blocking steam lol
