I have the DeathAdder and love it, but my itch for something new is getting hard not to scratch. I tried the G9 back at QuakeCon last year and loved it, but its been awhile and I can't decide whether I want to switch again. I'm a huge fan of Logitech stuff, so the Razer is a rarity for me anyway. Anybody have any thoughts?

I have a copperhead and have never looked back. Absolutely love it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Would suck if you forked out the cash for a new mouse and come to not like it as much as the deathadder.

My gripe with the Razer is that the scroll wheel has always had a bit of a squeak and doesn't seem like it spins completely how it is supposed to. Also, the Logitech mice just seem so smooth to me, where the Razer can be really jerky, and its a pain in the but trying to switch resloutions and sensitivity settings just for normal every day use. I play at a fairly high sensitivity so its nice to have the extra dpi of the Razer, but the Logitech can do almost the same thing, and I never noticed problems with them. I have to have something with 2 side buttons so the G9 and the newer G5 are my 2 options so far. I used to have a G5 single button version and loved it but I gave it to my little bro when I got the DeathAdder.

I'd give it a shot, if you don't like, you could give it to your little brother lol.

Comfort and handling are the most important aspects of a mouse. It's entirely subjective.

.... but other than that, 3G optical dominates the competition. And I've pretty much used them all.

Go onto bestbuy.com or circuitcity.com and search for the G9 and use the tool to find whether it's in stock at any stores near you. Go there and buy it, and you can return it within 30 days, no questions asked for a full refund if you don't like it.

deathadder is probably the most comfortable mouse I've ever used, and one of the best looking. I can look at the shiny logo for hours

I'm using the Logitech G9, and I absolutely love it, I don't see myself ever going back to a normal gaming mouse ever. Comfort is good, love the buttons, precision is good and I love the high dpi.

the mx518, deathadder or steelseries ikari optical are the best mice available

I have both a copperhead and deathadder and love them both. I've never really enjoyed using the G9 as much as my razer mice.

.Deathadder is all I want, I have no need to look for anything else :)

As a long time Razer fan, i tried the G9 and i have to say it's the only Logitech mouse that is MORE comfortable than a Razer. I'm using the G9 now for all my needs and can't imagine going back to Razer unless they make a similar shaped mouse as the G9.

it's also the most fugly mouse :D

I don't see why people think it looks ugly, it actually looks pretty good in action.

I've got the G9 and it fits my hand perfectly. I like the ability to adjust the sensitivity level and the scroll wheel is smooth as silk.

+1 for DeathAdder. I had the Copperhead before it and the DeathAdder blows it away.

+1 As well. I have both of these Mice. Liked the copperhead, but didn't have the feel of my old MS Intellimouse 3.0. Got the DeathAdder at the WCG 2007 and haven't looked back. I just can't get into the Logitech mice even though I'm sure they're great for those who can. Though I haven't been mouse shopping in a while, I also didn't like the rather small side buttons that they had, or the newer MS Intellimice had.

The G9 is definitely not ugly, might not be your cup of tea but you gotta admit that it's stylish. I've gone from the mx518 to the G5 v2 to the G9 and I can honestly say that I will be staying with the G9. It's sleek, sexy, and it also provides a comfortable and accurate grip. If you got the money then go ahead and grab the mouse. If you don't like it then I'm sure there will be someone in the for sale section that will take it off your hands (maybe even one of those guys that say the mouse is ugly). Let us know how it turns out for you.

I just switched to a DeathAdder from a wireless Logitech and wow it's like a whole new world. I'm not a serious gamer in any light but it's just so much smoother and more comfortable than what I had. With that said, I'd love to switch to the G7 only because it's wireless and comparable enough.

Oh and if anyone is interested, I have a BNIB DeathAdder for sale.

actually, my copperhead broke... which is why I bought a deathadder. the left mouse button lost its ability to click and drag in under a year, and Razer's warranty only applies to products purchased directly from them (mine came from Newegg). I didn t cry when my $8 iRocks mouse lost its scroll wheel, but I was expecting a lot more from a $50 mouse. Great while it lasted, hope the deathadder holds up better.

Are you sure that's accurate? If so, it's a really shitty policy. As long as you have proof of purchase they should honour the warranty, especially since most people would buy their stuff from other places because of deals/convenience anyway.

I have a $24 keyboard/mouse combo, Logitech. Its wireless and works just fine with all my needs and gaming. The only thing Id say I dont like about it is there is no warning of when my batteries go out, it just stops working. Aside from that though, no complaints.

Why/what makes these high dollar "mice" and keyboards so "WANTED"? Move the mouse, the little arrow thingy moves on the screen. As long as it does this, what else can be done to make it more special? What am I missing?

^^Resolution for gaming, ergonomics for long term play, more buttons, smoother action...
Some have on the fly sensitivity adjustment.
Theres more but I dont think about it a lot :)

Mice with higher-resolution sensors track more smoothly. It's pretty noticeable if you're a serious FPS gamer. Honestly, I can game quite well with any decent 800+dpi mouse, but it helps to have a good one with a high-resolution sensor.

On the fly sensitivity changing is a god send for switching from automatic weapons to sniping in game.

More like necessary. I can point out a bajillion reasons why. Not limited to:

1. Move the mouse, the little arrow thingy moves. But does it move 1:1 with your hand movement?
2. When you move the mouse, is there any pixel jitter?
3. When you lift the mouse up, does it continue to track?
4. When you move the mouse fast enough, does it cause the little arrow thingy to go crazy, or move unexpectedly?
5. When you are sitting still, does the little arrow thingy move by itself?
6. When you move the mouse, does the little arrow thingy snap to pixels (low res)?
7. When you move the mouse diagonally, does the little arrow thingy move in a diagonal, or does it pixel step?
8. If you have a big screen, when you move the mouse, do you have to end up pointing, picking up, putting the mouse down, repeating till you get to the end of the screen (low DPI)?

Shall I continue? :p

I just picked myself up a Diamondback 3g and it's amazing. I would of loved a DeathAdder but I'm left handed, but this one is perfect and does everything I've been looking for in a mouse for years, couldn't be happier with it. :)

So I'm in the market for a new mouse...I've had my Mx510 through many years of professional gaming in 1.6, CoD2, and some CoD4, I think it's served its time as the Logitech logo on the front is pretty much worn clean off.

Going from a mx510 and as a gamer who uses a small mousepad and loves to pick the mouse up and move it, what would provide the best feel for this playstyle? I've asked numerous teammates and others in the gaming scene, but just want a second opinion from my [H]er's!

Well, if you like the MX510, you'll probably like the MX518 as well. Same body shape, except with a much higher-res 3G optical sensor. I would suggest a G5, but since you mentioned picking up and moving the mouse a lot, I'm led to believe that you tend to use a low sensitivity, and some laser mice have trouble with that. The Razer Deathadder is also similar to the MX518 performance-wise(and possibly uses the same sensor as well), although the body shape is slightly different. You really can't go wrong with either, so it all comes down to which body shape you prefer.

1.) Dont know what ya mean by 1:1. But when I move the mouse, the pointer moves, heh.
2.) Nope, none that I can see.
3.) I have a wireless mouse. If I pick the mouse up, but leave about an inch of space under it, yeah, it will still move the pointer on screen. Any higher than that, nope, doesnt move.
4.) Nope
5.) Nope, only when the clothes dryer is on cause it shakes the floor which in turn, shakes my desk, heh.
6.) Nope, not that ive noticed. I cant even see the pixels.
7.) Moves diagonally.
8.) I only have a 17" monitor. Only time I have to pick up the mouse and move it is when my coke has gotten in the way, heh.

I just cant see myself spending any more than say, ohhh, $30 bucks for a mouse.

Well, since it's working for you, that's great. I can probably still sit in front of your screen, use your mouse, and find all the potentials flaws I pointed out.

Yeah, probably so. I was having mild artifacting with a 7900gt and didnt even know it cause I didnt know what it was or what to look for....thought it was just bugs in the game. Then it got real bad......then I found out what artifacting was.

Same thing here....Since I dont know what to look for, it isnt bothering me, heh. Thats why I asked what makes these mice so special. I was thinking you guys just got these types of mice for, relatively the same thing people get and use those colored lights in there computer cases....just extra pizzaz.

Edit: I have a friend who got one of those $100+ keyboards that lights up and has a digital readout screen which can tell what the weather is. Ive got a $20ish dollar keyboard and can click on my toolbar for the same thing. Heh.....guess I was just thinking these were techy fun things to have.

My old KB crapped out @ showdownlan2k6. I went to the Frys nearby and I had enough money so I bought a new mouse and KB(had some Logitech optical mouse), Razer Diamondback Acid Green. The shape is about the same and I like it, idk when I'll get a new mouse unless mine breaks or when I swap to blue.

Trust me, I know what you are saying. There's so much crap products out these days that claim things like "XTREME GAMERZZZ" and light up so much they can make you blind. There is definitely a lot of garbage out there, but there are genuinely some real good products that can enhance your experience.

Case in point. I used a Logitech MX518 for about 3-4 years. Best I ever had. When I got my 2nd Razer Deathadder (1st one was too buggy), I found myself doing things I was never able to do in Photoshop; it was THAT MUCH more precise. And that's not to say the MX518 was poor in Photoshop; it kicked mucho ass too. So once you get down to the per pixel level, like in Photoshop, you'll definitely find out what a mouse is made of.

I just cant see myself spending any more than say, ohhh, $30 bucks for a mouse.

Nor do you need to in order to get one. I've seen quite a few deals for the G5 and MX518 for around $30, there was(and possibly still is) a deal for the Razer Diamondback for $17, and I recently picked up an OCZ Equalizer for my laptop for the nice sum of $22. If you spend a bit of time looking you can easily find a great mouse for a great price. Of course, if your current mouse works fine, there's no need to change it. I still use an old Logitech Mediaplay at home (800dpi wireless) and it works great. Excellent tracking, insane battery life(2-3 weeks on 1800mAh rechargeables), and great ergonomics.

Laser mice (no matter how high the dpi) are inferior to good optical mice (like the 3g infared mice by razer). So, razer deathadder is better .
