Expreview claims that NVIDIA will be launching the GeForce 9900GTX and the 9900GX2 as early as July. That date seems a bit soon, especially for anyone that just plopped down the cash for a 9800GX2 but it wouldn't surprise me.

It is similar to today’s NV tactic: 9900GX2 just like todays 9800GX2, it is a two GPU product, and 9900GTX is a conventional single GPU product. Source mentions that both cards will be announce in July. In previous rumors, words have it that NV will improve G9X core by rolling out GT200. But detailed information still unknown.

VR-Zone is calling the GT200 the 9900GTX and 9900GT. VR-Zone and a user at Chiphell are also talking about it being a dual-core GPU.

Never mind, its just the chiphell user talking about it being dual-cored.

i KNEW that the 9800's weren't gunna be the high end of this series. The numbers were just so wrong.

"No it is not some April Fool jokes. VR-Zone has learned that there will be two high end parts from Nvidia to replace the current GeForce 9800 GX2 and 9800 GTX in Q3. These two parts are GeForce 9900 GTX and GeForce 9900 GT based on the new GT200 architecture. GeForce 9800 GX2 and GTX will have a short lifespan since they will be replaced in a couple of months time. Nvidia has positioned GeForce 9900 GTX to replace 9800 GX2 and this gave a clue that a single GT200 card will actually outperform a dual G92 card. Likewise for GeForce 9900 GT, outperforming and replacing 9800 GTX. CJ revealed to us that Nvidia will have a hard time fitting GT200 onto the PCB since the GPU is gonna be large and very power hungry so we can probably assume it is still 65nm based. The PCB for GT200 will be P651."

It appears that there will *not* be a GX2 version, but rather a GT and a GTX. I guess the GX2 part was April fool's joke by Enxpreview. I remember clearly from last month when a Nvidia rep openly criticized dual-GPU video cards and said that a single "monster" GPU card is better. Yay!!!

Seems soon to me. Its not like they needed to get the 9800s out to best ATI in anything (unless they were afraid of something from ATI that didn't make it out)

Oh well I wasn't excited enough about the 9800s to rip out my aging 7900 series card so I guess I can wait a little longer to see if this rumor is going to hit true.

The lack of enthusiasm for the 9800 series really has kept my money from burning a hole in my pocket (yet).

I think they 9800 series was Nvidia's early April's fools joke.

The should have called the 9800GX2, 8800GX2, and left the 9800 name for this upcoming launch.

Then replaced the 8800 line up (8th gen high end) with a REAL 9th gen card.

switch... they & the in my previous post since you can't edit this sub-forum... god I hate that. I really screws up dyslexic people like me who constantly switch letters & words around.

It also screws up people like myself who by the time I get one word typed my mind has already moved five or six words a head and doesn't pay attention to what the hands are doing all that much.

Does this mean that we may actually see a NEW card from nvidia rather than revision after revision of the G80? Finally!

lol... I do that all the time. Hmm so nvidia creates the 9 series which is nothing more than a rebranded 8 series gpu, and the true next gen is going to be part of the same series, dammit nvidia. :p

That would put me out of scope for the 90 day stepup :(

Ahh, I recall the days where I was a gamer. Got tired of the PC scene as I was in it from the voodoo 1 days and a little before that. Figured I'd go the console route to save money and time and give up some quality. MS, you fooled me with your junk hardware. Now I've given that up also. About the only thing I really game on anymore is the DS, and that's only when I'm on the throne, if you know what I mean (eeewww).

I wonder if they will finally widen the video ram bus to 512b and 1 GB of VRAM?

Someday something worthy of replacing my 640 8800GTS will come out...

Back in the Day I got me the 7800GT for 349 and then a few months later the 7900 series came out. I was not happy at all. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice not hardly. :)

A user at chiphell posted that it will be a dual-core G94 with a 512 bit bus. Obviously its just a rumor, but it would be nice.

I was just about ready to step-up to the GX2 but this info makes me want to wait.

April fools anyone?

Doubt it. There have already been rumblings that nVidia was planning to release something this summer to counter ATi's R700- and most of those rumblings originated from nVidia manufacturers gearing-up to produce the cards, so the 9900 series by July is definitely plausible. And, imo, after seeing how Tri-SLI and Quad SLI from the 9800GTX/GX2, respectively, and seeing how the 256-bit buses cripple them (before seeing that, I was willing to give nVidia the benefit of the doubt that their improved compression technology made the 256-bit bus ok, but now... ofc, the issue could also be the total amount of VRAM, but given how 1GB 8800GT/8800GTS's have performed....), it doesn't much surprise me that nVidia wants to push more robust 9900 cards in July against R700 (not that R700 sounds that great, but nevertheless...).

I'm betting the 9900('s) will have a 512Mbit mem bus, otherwise I'm curious as to what kind of specs there shall be.
