HOT!!! Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP $559 @ Dell SB

Coupon works (seemingly in Small & Medium Business area only)! Bought, thanks!

Ha, looking at the NEC also, eh? I was all over that idea...but then the taxes killed the deal for me. I can live with my current 2407, but should you really want the NEC, best deal out there now it seems.

Kinda blows though that if you want the Dell 2408 and place it in your cart, that they remove the Instant Savings of $75 and bump the price back up to the regular price of $699 when you apply the 20% coupon.

...it's still a killer deal on the 24".

Personally, though, I would get a 21" for $160 in the thread below.

My mom is more than me. It's a bit too much for me, especially since I'd use it for many things other than imaging (probably more other than not) and I've heard that it may not be the best choice if that's not your primary use.

I'm interested in the dell, but man all those complaints onthe monitor forum have me scared, but I guess the 21 day return makes it a pretty easy decision...though I hate that they're collecting taxes.

Decided to bite the bullet and buy it. 598.xx shipped. I was tempted at 624 (when i thought dell didn't charge taxes), so this is still a good deal....hopefully the monitor is a good one....or the replacement is a good one....or that replacement ;)

Im going to bite on this deal.. I have wanted a 24'' for a LONG time, this dell offers: 1.) Non-TN 2.) TON of inputs 3.) Solid Warranty service

Someone talk me out of buying this monitor. :p What are it's downsides? It seems to have every next-gen feature that will keep this monitor relevant for years. Is there something about it I am missing?

24" is just fine sitting on a desk within 2ft or so viewing distance imo.

anything beyond that would be overwhelming

is this monitor absolute shit for gaming or what? i really want to buy it but i keep hearing about input lag..

edit* damn, looks like the coupon died =/
edit2* whoops coupon is still alive i was looking in dell home :X

Is this a non-TN panel?
If it is, I'm pissed... I just payed $235 for the 20" 2007WFP... definitely could have spent $150 more or so after tax for an extra 4"...
I'll probably return it, since it hasn't even arrived via DHL yet, to get the 24" if it is a non-TN...

$608.41 after Shipping and Tax!
Gah! If I didn't hate going through return processes so badly, I'd return my 2007WFP when it arrives and get in on this deal...
poop-tarts.
I'll just have to manage with only 20" 2007WFP + cheapo 19" lcd

i hear that you can just reject the package when the dhl guy comes, then the courier just returns it to dell and dell refunds your money. u might want to verify this with the courier though.

oh and buy it! youll love the extra space, not to mention all the inputs for consoles and whatever you can throw at it/.

Dell has a no questions asked 21 day return policy. I'd order the 24" and return the 21" if you want more desktop space (24" is 19x12 as opposed to 16x10).

With that said, this monitor is not 150 more than your monitor. You'll probably pay 350 to 375 more for it, assuming the $235 price for your 20" doesn't include tax.

Nope, I was really tired when I last posted lol.
I dunno where the hell my tired ass pulled that number from, but I double checked and I paid $434 for it.
From Dell.com, $399 + Tax, free shipping option.
Sorry for the confusion there

I'm afraid I just don't have the extra $170-ish to upgrade right now :( About $70 short.

If someone can talk me into it, I might take a loan from a buddy or somethin for a couple weeks so I can pick this up (call Dell and explain my situation and see if they can help me exchange).

So is this panel like, the 2007WFP + 4 inches? Quality? Tilt to portrait mode? Same type of panel and color quality?

Thanks

Damn it. Was hoping you actually got such a deal and could tell us how, too. Because that would be a screaming deal on a 2007WFP. Your price still ain't bad though. You should buy what you can afford and be happy with it.

Ya i suppose so.
It's just that I had to struggle to convince myself that I could make do with only 20" instead of buying a cheap 22" or 24" TN panel.
So I just wish there was maybe a 20% off for the 2007WFP like 3 days ago haha.

Phimp, I think it depends. If you can afford the 2407 after a 2 week loan without putting a strain on your finances (and you don't have tons of credit card debt already), then I'd say try out the 2407. It's not just bigger, it's something like 25% more desktop space.

But if it'd be a struggle to make ends meat as a result, don't do it.

As for 20% off the 20007WFP, if you could get he discount, i'd say do it, but the 2007 doesn't cost enough to qualify for the coupon.

No, the 2007FPW has a better panel. Much better than the 2405. I don't know how much the 2408 improved on the 2405, though.

Well since I already ordered the 2007WFP a few days ago (should be here Tuesday according to DHL), I'm not gonna bother with the exchange/upgrade to the 2408. Especially since I'm hoping to pick up a pair of speakers for $200-ish within a week or so, so It's kinda either new speakers vs 4" extra on my display and a hassle of an exchange.

Yelnats, thanks for verifying that for me. Makes me feel a little better about my choice of sticking with the 2007WFP :p

I'm guessing I'll go a few months, and depending on my satisfaction with a 19" lcd 1280x1024 and a 20" at 1680x1050 for total desktop space, I might wait for a 37" Westinghouse on sale or something to replace em all

I was making random doodles when I though of drawing up a comparison of lcd sizes. 19" full vs 20" wide vs 24" wide.
link to crappy pic of the illustration (4 cubes = 1")
so ya, I realized that although it is a lot of extra space, I could live without it. or at least I hope so.
i know... i have far too much time on my hands :p

Is there a difference between 19" and 20"? I assumed both were 16x10 displays.

Size isn't what matters, it's the resolution. If a 24" display had a 16x10 resolution, then there'd be no reason to pay the extra money for the 24" display, IMO....the same goes with moving to a 30" display.

I'd disagree to some extent, beyond gaming I can't have my resolution at 1600x1200 because of my piss poor eyesight, and having the extra size can help in this department

I will agree with you on another level, The statement above is like saying there is no point in getting a 60" 1080p TV instead of a 32" 1080p TV since the resoluion is the same...Bigger is better :)

this is true since i've done it before. i ordered a vostro 1400 for my now ex-gf as a christmas gift. DHL tried to delivery it once and i wasn't home for it so it was sent back to the warehouse and just sat at there for a month.

jumped on dell's live chat, they told DHL to send it back to them, which took a week but i waited an extra week to make sure. jumped on dell's live chat again to see the status and they told me my cc will be credited the full amount.

time period is - i ordered the laptop late Nov, first and only attempt for delivery was first week of Dec, sat in warehouse for rest of Dec. got my refund in mid Jan after doing above.

i used to work at a dell kiosk in the mall too and this is what i told customers that wanted to return their orders that didn't arrive yet.

he didn't mention bad eyesight, so I assumed that wasn't an issue....and even if it is, 19 vs 20" is an insignificant change that I suspect most would barely notice.

Seriously, TV's have nothing to do with this and if you could only move 3 feet away from the screen, I'm going to bet that 32" set would be the preferred solution.

What's more, I use a computer monitor more than games and desktop space in king in those cases. I realize that many open up explorer full screen, no matter what their resolution is. I OTOH, rarely open up anything full screen, with the exception of Photoshop and Wavelab.

That is, in fact, one of the 2 reasons I've put off moving to LCD for so long: resolution was too low on reasonably priced monitors. The other is that the picture quality is generally lacking. It remains to be seen if the Dell is acceptable or not.
