Hello everyone, hopefully someone can help with this as it is driving me crazy. Last night, updated to the 8.3 CCC and went to bed. This morning was playing Shadowgrounds and at this one point in the game after playing for about 10 minutes or so the screen went black and the monitor went into power save mode like it lost signal from the videocard and I had to restart.

Restarted and back at that same spot in the game it happened again but the screen came back and I could play again for about 3 minutes before it froze. I thought maybe it was just some bug so I tried Shadowgrounds: Survivor but once again after 10 or so minutes the screen went black and I could hear the game sounds looping like it was frozen.

Tried COD4 for about 15 minutes and had no problems. Just in case, I uninstalled the 8.3's and reinstalled them again but this time it happened in TF2. Uninstalled all the ATI software, used driver cleaner, and installed the 8.2 drivers but just now in Shadowgrounds again, the screen went black, came back and when I alt tabbed there was a message about VPU recovery from ATI.

Is the card overheating possibly? It just seems odd that right after the 8.3s, it gets screwed up. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your card is taking a dump and the 8.3s are just coincidence. Re-seat the card and try a new (spare?) PSU. Also try under-clocking the card and see if it still freezes.

All else fails, good reason to upgrade :)

Well, if I set the fan to 100% in Riva Tuner it doesn't freeze(yet, I didn't test it that long) anymore but since its still within warranty I guess I'll send it back. I've never had to return anything to Sapphire before so according to their website I would need to send it back to Newegg first since I bought it there?

And yea, it does seem like a good reason to upgrade to something better but I always have trouble deciding.

I get exactly the same thing with 8.2 and ATI tool tray+X1900XT. If i overclock too much the screen goes black, monitor goes into sleep mode and I can hear the game still playing in the background. I just have a soft overclock on it and it holds.
