Best Torrent Client?

Ive always used Azueras but wasnt sure if there was anything better out.
 
The top two are Azureus and uTorrent. Azureus is more of a resource hog and uTorrent is a slimmer client with effective features. But uTorrent I believe was acquired by BitTorrent, who are in cahoots with them studios or whatever. So far the client doesn't seem to be affected by it but time will tell.
 
yeah, I dont need all the crap that comes with azuares now even tho I can knock it down to classic. Thanks for the info!
 
deff utorrent. its got NO junk that comes with it... no extra crap on install. its very light
 
The older version 2.5 of Azereus is what I use to use to download torrents on my gaming rig. uTorrent never worked out for me since it was so damn slow. Dunno if the later versions are any better.

Now I don't bother with either since I now have a linux server to download torrents :)
 
I talked to a guy who is heavy into downloading and told me to avoid Utorrent as its a main target by some company he mentioned. He said that Azueras has extra security options that Utorrent doesnt have. I ended up switching back to Azueras and kicking it into classic mode which looks just like the older 2.5.

I think that's fud for now. I think the only "security" options that the torrent network supports is protocol encryption and peer filtering. Utorrent has support for both. Now, it's also a benefit that Azureus is open-source so you know what you're running... but all claims that utorrent has secret code by the big corps and government I'd call conspiracy theory until proven, which it hasn't been afaik.

For the OP, utorrent all the way. I've gone through abc (in the early days), bitcomet, azureus previously. utorrent is my choice right now. Coming from azureus, it was a dream come true. A very low-memory footprint native win32 executable (no java) with all azureus features which I loved. Highly recommended.
 
Ill see if this guy can provide me with the info. I normally take his word for it because of his background and the amount of research he does on pretty much everything involving "downloads". Here again if he cant backup what he says with some links I may try utorrent.
 
I'm just asking, but why not just use the normal, plain BitTorrent client? It seems to be very easy to use, and just plain works.

It's been a long time since I have used the original BT client. Does it allow upload throttling now? I think utorrent is actually its underlying code base now, too.

Along with Bill, I haven't used it for a looong time. When I used it before it had virtually no options, which is why I switched. I have no idea what it's like now, though.
 
I actually tried it in the very beginning for a download or two. It had a terrible interface. I think you had to run separate instances for every download and keep them open in the taskbar (no minimize to tray) if I remember correctly, and it had no options that I wanted...

not sure what it is like right now.

I wanted to see the link too.. I talked to him earlier and he said he is going off of old information and apparently he hasnt looked into uTorrent lately.
 
I use rTorrent on a linux box. Roomates all use utorrent (or just use my instance of rtorrent, which I have set up so they can just drop files into a shared directory and it'll download for them automatically)
 
does utorrent 1.6 offer the RC4 thingy that Azereus offers? I dont know why but when I enable RC4 in Azereus my download speed is faster.
 
After trying many I'll have to agree Utorrent is awesome, barely touches CPU and is superfast!

P.S. where do you guys go to get torrents? Recently speeds have slowed to a crawl on many of the big sites. I've heard private sites like torrent damage are the way to go for raw speed, but I can't figure out how to join :(

torrent-damage is invitation only. I'm a member there, but I have no invites available. Plus with private sites like that, they really keep an eye on your upload ratios. I have a 256k upload and it's hard as hell to keep the 0.50 I'm required to have.
 
another uTorrent user, however I am slowly phasing over to rTorrent on my linux machine.
 
I just switched to utorrent from bitcomet and I cannot be more satisfied with my switch.

uTorrent.

Very small file size, it has all the options you need, you can change your max upload and download speeds in 2 clicks, it minimizes to the tray, you can open multiple torrent files in a row then select a path for each one in uTorrent...it's just perfect.
 
i used azureus for a long time then switched cuz it was sucking down too much CPU power

went to bitcomet for about 2 years, but then it started fucking with my speed and i would get horrible DL speeds - dont know why

switched to utorrent and its awesome! i love the vista widget too for it!

BitComet is banned by a lot of trackers now.
