so whats the bloody reason for no shipping to canada :(

boooo

Crazy import duties, from what I've seen. Years ago I sold my original 32MB Radeon AGP to a Canadian friend of mine. Gave him a good price on it, but he paid almost as much just to get it in to the country.

I'm reasonably sure it will fit, though you may have to notch a drive rail or something.

Wow, they're that long? I read in the "I got my LianLi PC-A05B ! it's Small!" thread that cutting isn't required. Still I wonder about cooling and it raising case temps in a A05.

I was glad to find out that the 8800GTS cards listed in this thread are not the best choice vs. an 8800GT 512mb card. But is this the GTX to get or would y'all recommend this 8800GTS (G92) for $40 less AR?

That last one looks like a great deal. Damn my AGP mobo!

You're right, it shouldn't require cutting -- I overestimated how small the case was.

As for the 8800 GTX vs. 8800 GTS 512MB (G92) debate, if you're running 1920x1200 or higher (24"+ LCD) the GTX is a bit faster. If you're running below 1920x1200 the 8800 GTS 512MB is generally a bit faster.

I would think anyone who buys this GTX listed here is going to be able to step up to the 9800 when released. Just not sure if doing so will affect the MIR.

I didn't want to hijack this thread and turn it into a GTX vs. GTS (G92) debate. But I do have a SyncMaster 244T so thanks for the info on 1920 x 1200. The GTX is probably what I should get. I wonder how well it will handle games on a 40" Sony 1080p LCD via DVI to HDMI ?

1080p = 1920x1080, so it should be a tiny bit faster than on the 244T. Just about everything is playable at 1920x1200 with a single 8800 GTX save Crysis, which is hardly playable on... much of anything, at that res. ;)

Heck, at these prices get two of them and run SLI, get a big freakin case and add water cooling and several 120 fans, over clock the crap outa yer CPU, load yer mobo with 8gbs of ram and run vista 64-bit. Then turn up everything to max settings and run Crysis on a Dell 30" LCD. That would be the way to go! Hey, it's only money. :D

EDIT: There's a whole thread in the video cards forum about a guy who just bought the GTX and no is having second thoughts over his choice vs. a GTS (G92). See ya there people.

When does this deal end, on 2/29th or is that the last day? If I ordered on 2/29, would I still get the deal?
Thanks

Because it gets pwn3d by the 512MB 8800GT (cooler, faster, PureVideo HD)? ;)

This is the 112SP GTS, not the 96 one. It's faster than the 8800GT at higher resolutions (mainly due to the extra memory and bus width). Not to mention the GTS' shaders are clocked lower, so bump them up to GT speeds and you're looking at a great card.

Great card? OK, I'm not going to argue with that, especially at the final price. By the way, all these promos end 2/29. Makes ya wonder what's coming 3/1.

I went ahead and bought the 8800 GTX, with a q6600 on the side.

Thanks, Newegg, for the great deals! Wee haw!!! You should post the EVGA 8800GT 512mb for $200 after rebate as well!!!

Wow, what a way to make my Friday. I've been searching for a video card for my new build and find this.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Now if only you'd get thought E8400's and run a similar sale next Friday when I get my next paycheck? :D

I'm running 1680x1050. Could my 8800GTS 640 be bottlenecking me? Or is the GTX not that big of an improvement at that resolution?

You would get an improvement, although I'm not sure what you're running except for Crysis that would be giving you huge problems... except maybe 16xAA :p

Yeah, I don't see any real bottlenecks in your system at all. I don't think 4GB of ram would give you much of a boost, and that video card is quite capable with most games. What game (or games) are you feeling "bottlenecked" in right now with that card?

Nevertheless, this deal on the GTX is quite good. Newegg is really giving us the hookups this time!

crap, crap, crap!!! I don't have enough cash until tomorrow afternoon.... :(

OK, got the $$... but now I'm not sure which one (or two) I should get.

Running A8N-SLI w/ Opty 185 w/ 2Gb PC3200 w/ 2x GF7800GT in SLI.

Would just one of these cards outperform current SLI? Or should I still get two?
Did I mention I hate MIR's?
Which card(s) are the best "bang" for the $$? And should I be worrying about "bottlenecks"?

Thanks all!

The 8800GTX is at a really good price point. You will improve your performance greatly with a single 8800GTX - especially for games that aren't optimized for SLI.

Your best bet right now is that GTX. I doubt you'll see any bottlenecks (except Crysis, which has bottlenecks on almost all computers) with one of those bad boys. It uses a lot of watts, but it has a robust memory interface, and a lot of memory to boot. If you have 4GB of ram, the 64-bit OS will also help you maximize addressable memory in windows. If I were buying a new card right now the GTX is probably the card I would get. Either that or the 8800GT by EVGA for $200 after rebate. Let me know if you want a link to that, it's also on newegg. They should post that card on the beginning of this thread, if you ask me. $200 is the cheapest they've ever had that EVGA card, and it's a fantastic card, too. The GTX is still faster though, and with the sale it seems a lot more practical than at $400+ normal retail.

Practical now, but what about a month from now? Or even in a few weeks? What's the chances we're going to see this (8800 GTX) at or below $300 without rebates? This card does appear to be a killer deal at the moment. But it's rather old and not very power efficient. I almost bit and bought, but after I had it in my cart, I duno, it felt like I was buying old technology. I know it's impossible to keep up with this stuff as something new is always right around the corner. But buying this now just feels to me like you're already behind the 8-ball. With the 9800 series just a few weeks away and this sale ending on the last day of the month, it seems like it won't be long before some are saying to themselves; "why did I buy this power-hungry, hot-running, year-old GPU, when I could have put the money towards the latest technology and bought the newest, fastest card out there?"

I could be wrong but I think some people are going be regretting their decision to buy an 8800 GTX when they read about how others are loving the latest new cards that they just got. I'm tempted I'll admit, but I think it might be wise to wait for a while longer and see how this plays out before plunking down hard-earned cash. I'm sure this card (or an equivalent) will still be available in a few weeks and on sale somewhere. And when the 9800 series launches, I certainly don't think you'll see the price going up on this card. Something to think about.

True, but c'mon... $170 OFF is hard to pass up!! :p

You are probably right. Where were these deals when [H]Members were screaming for 8800's at JUST MSRP?? But no. And now, suddenly huge discounts?

More I think about it, the more I think retailers stockpiled these cards as they became available, expecting us to all bow to the price inflations... and maybe got caught with their "pants down" when the 9800's became a sudden reality??

Of course, I rarely buy any hardware till it's last weeks news... so this sale is still very tempting to me!

At the moment the 9800s are looking like a minor step up from the 8800s, if that. It's still too early to be certain, but I'm not feeling near as "threatened" as a was a few weeks ago with my 8800 GTX SLI rig.

I JUST bought that 8800GTS 320MB :(

Can I return it? I'm kind of kicking myself for not getting an 8800GT anyways...
