HI,

First of all my board is a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R rev. 2.1, and I've been testing my set of G.Skill 2x1GB DDR2 1066 sticks individually on this board.

This board's BIOS incorrectly reads the timings as 5-7-7-20, when it should be 5-5-5-15 first of all. Secondly, Memtest is returning nothing but errors for each stick of this ram, even after I've manually set the timings to 5-5-5-15. I've tried moving each stick to different DIMM slots for single channel mode, but get same results. I've heard that Gigabyte boards sometimes incorrectly identify memory timings, but I've also been told that lots of people have been using G.Skill of this type on this board with no problems.

Bad RAM or bad settings in BIOS? Or what? Please help!

Thanks in advance!

If all the memory settings (timings, speed, and voltage) in the BIOS are correct then the memory is to blame. RMA it.

How fast are you running them and are you supplying enough voltage? Like what was said above ^^ probably faulty ram :\.

I'm running the RAM at stock speeds (not overclocking it). BIOS shows the wrong timings, but correct voltage...2.1, this RAM's voltage rating is 2.0-2.1. Gigabyte support suggested updating the BIOS version to F2, which I've done. Repeating tests now....

Memtest isn't showing any errors now...I adjusted the voltage so it now reads 2.112v in the PC Health status screen, but I can't seem to get this 1066 RAM to run at 1066 at 5-5-5-15. I set the SPD to 3.20, this is the only thing that makes the manual timing settings and the actual timings match. Under this setting are the left and right readings: actual and set...the actual memory frequency is 800 while 3.20 sets it to 1066. So while I can get the timings right, the frequency is lower than the 1066 speed of the sticks.

In other words, it doesn't seem that this RAM wants to run at 1066 with 5-5-5-15 timings...only at 5-7-7-20.

I'd check the voltage manually or with multiple programs.

After that I'd see if maybe I could get some other 1066 ram in there that's similar to check to see if it's the sticks or the motherboard.

If you can't do this, just RMA em.

RMA'd it...should have known, cheap 1066 RAM. It wouldn't run at 1066 at the stock 5-5-5-10 settings no matter what I did. It would only run at those timings if I clocked it down to 800. Then, I ran memtest one more time and it returned errors again. G'bye G.Skill, hello Corsair (which is listed compatible with this board). Newegg even paid the shipping.
