I got my LianLi PC-A05B ! it's Small!

More like Geo-metro ;)

Geo Metro it is then:

I know the cables are messy, I didn't have time today to get it nice and neat. Besides, it's a P2 400, max temp is probably still cooler than a new GeForce 8800Ultra right? ;)

Feel the incredible power of Pentium II (with MMX technology!! ;) )

The paint/finish is reaaalllly nice. I keep wiping off my greasy palm prints to keep it nice and shiny. :)

Everything's working great, except the Power LED doesn't come on. I think it might be because of the connector pins on this old mobo the HP is using. The header from the Lian Li case is 3 pins wide (with middle pin empty). When I took apart the old HP, I noticed the Power LED header from the HP case was only 2 pins wide. Oh well. I love it! So light weight too.

Nice installation. Very amusing that you installed the classic P II in there.

Thank you for the pictures.

Honestly dude ... you HAVE to show us the result, ok ?
I mean imagine a Lian Li PC-A05 in a different color than black or silver.
What color is it going to be ?

Ok people, here's another project, A05(was a B), now with two stage car paint. They call it Viper red.

No plexi on the door yet, and I still have to mount the top I/O panel.

Oh, and for the non revelant portion, water cooled.

nice one LanPirate1. love the black on red color scheme, but you gotta paint that fan. the white stands out.

I removed the hdd cage, it was not useful because I have only one hdd. And that ensures a better ventilation in my case. :p

Just held in by rivets right?

I might do the same on the new case, I'm building an extra "LAN" computer, it's going to have 1 DVD drive, 1 HDD, and 1 video card... onboard everything else...

And if I ever needed to re-attach it... nuts + hex bolts would be a few bucks, and still removable again later on :D

I never thought about this before. Do you have to remove the HDD rack to replace the front fan?

Nope, but it is a PITA... You have to route the wire through a slot on the HD cage and then slide it down where the PSU normally goes... not too bad though.

anyone try fitting an eatx mobo into one of these? probably have to remove the hdd rack and rotate the psu on a small side, but it looks like it might fit

Uh.... Why?

It "could" work.. the right side of the drives and HD cage is fairly open... (where the motherboard WOULD go)

     LOOK AT THIS, MAN - ISN'T THAT THE SCHISEL ?

I want one and I want one and I do want another one and I need it and I do need it and I really need it, oh, and have I mentioned that I must have this case ? I must you hear me ?!! Gosh, I know I won't get it but how can you be so cruel ? I hate you ... not.

@ Popinette ... your case looks good too. Nice & so neat ... I like that. Have you chosen your next CPU fan yet ?

@ AMD_RULES_not ... Are you Canadian or from Ivory Coast ?

Awesome job LanPirate1!

Haha, ya I liked AMD. Now I'm a fan of Intel again :D

I'm from neither. I'm from the USA. I just happen to know a little french on the side ;)

Nice job! the red PC Power & Cooling 750 PSU would go well with this case.

I wasnt expecting my case to get here until wednesday. But it got here this evening. One question for you guys..........how did you guys get the balls to cut into something so beautifull?!?! For a long time ive heard guys say nothing but good things about Lian Li. Ive always thought they were full of shit, they cant be that good. Was I ever wrong! I dont know about the other models, but this case is so light, the lines so clean, and fit/finish is WAY better than I ever thought. Best 70 bucks I ever spent in a long while. Thank you guys for planting the seed. I am impressed!

They do it because they know they can do it well. Me? I'd have to buy some cheap cases to cut up for practice first. Someday.

I'm on my 3rd A05...

Once I get the money I'll try modifying this one first (as it's empty) for water-cooling 220 on top... then move my "gaming" parts that I have laying around into the first case... once I'm done I should have my main rig water-cooled in the A05, and a backup LAN computer, and a V1000 server...

$60 shipped I couldn't resist

Hey, I love the red PSU, is it modular though? Thats a pre-req for the A05 as you all know.

Well, I've always had Antec cases, then moved down to Thermaltake, then sideways to Coolermaster, then up(up this time) to Silverstone. The Silverstone TJ09, the CM Wavemaster, those were a pile of money, and I modded them without a thought about it.
The A05, its... like..free really. I mean cmon, a Lian Li for under a c-note? That was my signal to let loose. I had a V1000B, thats where the Lian-Li quality really comes through, built so well. The A05, it's totally entry level, but once you play with it, you understand the heritage, the quality still shows. Its not a tank, thats for sure, you gotta baby the side panels sometimes. Here's where the A05 wins my heart: IT'S THE SMALLEST ATX CHASSIS AROUND!
Its elitist enough that people don't really know what to make of it. Some think its too plain, that it should look like some kind of Samarui with lights and silver swords on it, bah I say.
Less is more.

I like coolermaster:(

This was exactly my thoughts as well. I even posted a few questions/comments asking why people liked this case so much. But then I realized it's gotta be popular for a reason after browsing through this thread. Bought one for 70 bucks shipped also and will be here today. A Gigabyte P35 DS3L mobo is going into it for my first ever PC build. Can't wait.

One question: does anyone know after a DS3L mobo is installed into this case if I'll have enough room for a AC Freezer 7 CPU fan?

I have yet to see a heatsink that doesn't fit in this case.

I built 1 w/ an AC Freezer 7, and 1 w/ AC Freezer 64, and 1 w/ Tuniq tower...

Thanks for the reassurance that an AC Freezer 7 will fit. I was also a little concerned about how well these CPU fans work in this case since the airflow goes in the opposite direction (back to front) of most cases.

You just mount it backwards :)

W/ the AC Freezer it LOOKS like the fan is facing the back, but the fan blows through the fins...

which of the three plugs/ cables for teh top usb connections do i plug into the mobo? i only want the usb ones and not the audio or firewire. thanks

I have been watching this thread for almost a full year, and I immediately fell in love with the A05-B upon looking for the first time. I built a computer last May, and since it was going off to the dorm with me for college, I knew I wanted a nice compact case, since I already had a Lian-Li full tower, and it was HUGE. The A05-B fit my needs perfectly and came with the Lian-Li quality that I had come to expect. A few pictures of my rig:

(I know it's not as neat and clean as it could be, but I have 2x optical and 2x HDD drives, which makes power cables and Sata cables hard to route extraordinarily well. Also, the 8800 GTX and the Audigy 2 take up room in the top that would otherwise be open and really, really clean looking.)

Modifications: I cut the 120mm hole in the top and scavenged one of the fan grills from the inside of the case (love the way it looks). I also cut the window in the side and cut the Lexan to fit.

The Tuniq Tower is a great heatsink, and I was concerned that it wasn't going to fit. However, it fit fine, it was just a PITA to mount successfully. I have big hands, so getting inside the case and twisting down the mounting screws in the bottom corner proved difficult. I would have put it on outside the case, but the weight of the sink made me reconsider, since I didn't want to crack a $150 motherboard and ruin a chip at the same time.

Overall, I LOVE this case, and it's perfect for my dorm setup. I have plenty of storage and lots of gaming power, and my temps are great!

Specs: (copied from my sig)

[-] Lian-Li PC-A05B
[-] Asus P5B-Deluxe/WiFi
[-] 2 GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 DDR2
[-] C2D E6600
[-] BFG 8800 GTX OC2
[-] 2x250GB Seagate SATAII HDDs
[-] Audigy 2 ZS
[-] Silverstone Strider 750W PSU
[-] Dell 2407WFP Display (much <3)

Nice build. Clean, I'll bet you are the envy of your dorm. BTW, shouldnt your ram be in "like -coloured" slots on the P5B? Both yellow I think, help me out here.

That's why I installed it outside of the case on my lap, then when I inserted it, I just held on by the massive heatsink and guided it into the IO plate... screwed down...

Way easier :D

I might be going watercooling here soon, and since I have a NIB a05b, I might as well cut that one up first, then move my components over... and move the old computer into my older A05b...
