Will the 8800-series output 1920x1080 (1080P) over component?

I'm having an issue with my Philips 42" HDTV when all 3 HDMI ports are populated.

It's a hardware problem, and I've got a date scheduled with the repair guy.

Anyhow, a very quick workaround for me would to remove my DVI -> HDMI cable and swap it for the component output box that came with my graphics card.

Would the 8800-series output a 1080P signal over component?

(BTW: My TV can accept and display a 1080P signal over component)

It doesn't work for me. I can only do 1080i over component. That was with the 169.28 drivers.

Even if your TV says it can do that somehow, component is usually limited to 720p or 1080i. I'd be surprised if any video cards will allow you to exceed that.

6 conductors should offer enough bandwidth for 1920x1080. There's no reason it /shouldn't/ work.

I was under the impression that component generally does not have the bandwidth for 1080p and that is why so little hardware supports trying it.

technically component can support 1080p, but the industry isn't going to allow hd content to stream through any interface that they can't layer a use rights check over.

Yeah like the guy above pretty much said.
Component can handle 1080P but not every receiver will handle it.

My TV supports 1080p over component.

Proof: My Pre-Elite Non-HDMI XBOX 360. My TV has an info mode

1080p = 1080p
1080 = 1080i

That's how I know.

Soooo.. Can the 8800 do it? IF SO, my TV will work.

Yes? No?

You have the card. You have your machine set up. You have an 8800. You have the breakout cable. Connect it and stop asking us questions you could have answered for yourself in 15 minutes or less.

Actually, I just went and looked for the breakout box.

Apparently, I didn't get one. It's listed as optional on my 8800GTS/512 box.

I found one at Monoprice, though. but before I order.....

Why not wait...or disconnect the 3 HDMI input devices? If your not sure...why waste money?

I'm sure noone on here has your EXACT TV, your EXACT card, your EXACT box, your EXACT cable, your EXACT settings, etc. There's too many factors to tell if it will work or not without trying it, and I'm sure as hell not buying a 46" incher to test it. :D

That's truly strange. It's not a box, just a little dongle that looks like an s-video cable on one end and 3 female RCA plugs on the other. Should've been included with your card.

I'm guessing he's talking about this kind of product.

But if you were planning on using the included adaptor that silent is talking about...then no, no 1080p for you. Not even close.

My XFX box states it was optional. I'll pull out of my huge box-o-cables tomorrow and see if I have it in there, but it's not in the video card box.

But yes, I am trying to use the S-Video port on my graphics card, with a component adapter, to achieve 1080p.

I know my display will display 1080p over component, that's how they list 6 available 1080p inputs.

My 3HDMI problem is if 3 are hooked up, if you have a PC as one of the 3 it won't work or randomly works. It's a TV hardware problem and the service guy is coming out to fix it but I'm not comfortable with the local service place. (It's named Steve's TV. Not actually Steve's TV, but it's a guy's first name then the word TV, like Al's TV or Joe's TV)

Anyhow, that was a waste of time telling you guys about the TV, you can't fix it.

But if I can't get 1080p out of component, screw it

Will that baby there do 1080p?

Edit: Nope.

My next solution is a video switch. Put my 2 game consoles on the switch, PC uses HDMI port 2 on the TV, HDMI port 3 is free = problem solved but for $50 (4x1 1080p HDMI 1.3b switch at monoprice)

monoprice ftw

No, NVIDIA video cards can NOT do 1080p over component. Even if the TV supports it. I don't know whether its a driver or hardware limitation but it won't work. Don't waste your money if you were expecting 1080p over component to work.

Just Google nvidia 1080p component and you will see how many people are unable to get it working.
