People have been selling unopened retail chips for $200 shipped via the forums here and elsewhere, if you can't find a store with a reasonable price.
The Fry's by me has them for $243.68.
I've been there twice to get one and walked out. I just can't pay that much for something that should be $190 MAX. (Yes I've had economics, know about supply v demand and understand why the price is sky high).
Buy.com has them for $225.99, but they are out of stock. With a $10 off coupon that's only $215.99, I might order one.
Something strange going on with this launch for sure. Waiting for a possibly higher-binned 8500 myself.
Ding ding! Me too. That extra .5 multi is where it's at. 4.0 Ghz (E8400) is just not enough of a step up from my E6600...
Lol do you know how much more that extra .5 multi will cost you? Just better off going quad (either Q6 or Q9) then.
.
It's not so much the multiplier, but the ability to OC farther. Over in AU where they had retail shipments a month or so ago, the 8500's were apparently getting on average ~200mhz higher stable OC's than the 8400's on less volts. That is worth it to me (I like lots of overkill speed )

Probly, It will be outofstock soon

mwave.com have them in stock at this time. Ordered mine thursday, 02/14/08. got it today. Looks like a week 48, batch# Q748R219. waiting on mobo/heatsink/ddr2 1066 modules to get in.
get them while you can.
All of E8400 retail should oc'd to 4.4Ghz ( 489 fsb x multi 9 ) easy...Depending on your ram ability to scale high.
Imo, wolfdale will run the best paired with DDR3
I won't pay more than $180 for one of these... $215+ is encroaching on the X3210 quads which can hit 3.2 with ease on air.
I have a feeling the e8400 will be in stock soon again for 215 shipped.
When is the x3210 comming out?
