Cyro-Z - Available Next Week?

Considering it's coming straight from OCZ, it looks like we might actually be getting this. According to the thread on XS it will only be available in the US and possibly Canada(the compressor is 110v only) and it will only be available for purchase via a credit card order direct from OCZ. They haven't released a price though, so time will tell if it has actually turned out to be affordable.

I thought these were dead in the water. It's good to see they're still on the way. It will be interesting to see what compressor and cooling they have for that small of a price.

The cooling world's Duke Nukem Forever actually getting released, much less available to the actual public? Even double its long ago rumored $300-$400 price would be cheaper than a Vapo, and with Chilly1 involved, it has a good shot to cool better to boot.

Here's to hoping February 4th is a very, very cold day for the OC world.

Seems its going to be about 10, means I won't be able to get one to test on the systems I use for loadtesting my units. Wish I could have; maybe then could have devised a mod or figure out a good recharge setup for those stuck with something that can't handle X load.

I think he meant 10 units produced :). Looks to be a limited run to begin with, but I'm sure they'll sell out right away and more will be produced.

I see. Not much of a chance of us getting one then. Hopefully someone will review one so we can get some idea of performance.

This is coming from "n00b of l337 : n00bie" mind you. http://www.nordichardware.com/news,6984.html looks like they had more than 10 back in October, so I would hope they have significantly more than that now.

Actually, if this is the same person as the user by the same name on xtremesystems.org, he's not a noob, especially in the world of phase change overclocking.

Same person as on XS indeed ;)
Though in that picture you see pallets of them, they had difficulties with bringing charged units into the country. So are retuning in country each unit one by one, costly, time consuming, and killing them quick.
Don't expect to see more then 100 as they've said, most likely ten sets of 10.

Also;

Nada.
Febuary 6th now.

It's too bad as I thought this was going to be my first phase unit. Since it looks like a product that will be released and discontinued on the same day, long term support looks grim.

Others including myself are going to fill that price void very soon, Cryo-Z created a lot of hype, and though its not a profitable sector for us, the more phasers the better for everyone and all our overclocks :)

Same here, I was hoping this would be my first step into this type of cooling. I was hoping to be able to hack it and make it fit inside a system :D

If they actually did come out at that price point I would go out of my way to make sure I got one. That is a very good deal and I have been hoping for an inexpensive alternative to other phase change solutions out there.

Well launched the prototypes of my lineup, where's the Cryo-Z still?
Heard we might be looking at 3 more weeks.
3^3 maybe.

Search for Magnaphase Phase Change on ebay under completed listsings. I put one up on ebay but no bites after a few days.

Just to provide pics, there up there, but the unit is now sold elsewhere. Getting new cases in soon too.

With all Intel Quadcore benching with LN2........Wolfdale 45nm cpus make single stage cooling became relevant again and back from obscurity.

Most if not all E8400/8500 will bench all day @ >5Ghz under unmoded stock Vapochill LS or better yet Mach II GT (evap temps. mostly will stay @ - 40ish load with up to 1.76Vcore)

Temps are more towards -25C actually, the probes in Machs and Vapochills are thermoresistors actually made for 50C to 500C operation. Not negative, they had option for negative, but apparently didn't go with it.

Its about -34C on DT with k probe stuck at the side base of evap.

So what is the price going to be on this unit? The ones I've seen listed on Ebay and XS are well over $400 with no case or controller, it seems that when you add in those items the price is going to be much closer to a Vapo LS than what the CryoZ is supposed to sell for. ;)

I don't like to see this "underperforming, underpowered" trend. Especially when you can build a simple unit with a small rotary that will outperform a Vapo LS by a wide margin for about the same money. I think you are jumping in too fast with this, you need to figure out how to keep the price at not over $300-$350, with case and controller, or the loss in performance just isn't worth it.

Well original Cryo-Z aim was $449, so a bit better for $499 doesn't seem so horrid. As for keeping it at $350 or so, its just not economical. No profit margin and the amount of time and cost of gases and vacuum time makes it a hinderence to even try.

Don't know if you guys have seen this yet, but Tweaktown got their hands on a unit.

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1321/ocz_cryo_z_phase_change_cooler_tested/index.html

Mediocre, in their eyes, it would seem. What do Vapochills usually hit? -50'C? I guess the Cyro-Z could do with some modifications...

and the noise level doesn't seem so bad, since they're testing from 1.5 feet away. What kind of person would have a phase change unit next to their head? (or would want to )

well it seems to me that it has terrible performance? max stable load 120W? but i guess you get what you pay for.

Vapochills say they hit -50C. They don't, there probe is rated to go down to 50C at minimum, its way off and distorted, and not even on the evaporator.
Its really hard to convince some people though that -73C at load is not what they are getting.
Vapo's hold more towards -20C to -30C on most quads that arent heavily overclocked. -30C to -40C on duallies.

Say bye bye to watercooling. No more stupid pipes making your computer look like an aquarium.

THis machine will revolutionize OCing.

Blah, I get all psyched up reading the first portion of this thread and then my hopes are dashed against rocks.

I suppose it's going to go through a normal dev cycle and end up much higher priced than originally planned. Can't blame 'em if they go through so much crap just to get it to us.

I'm air cooling currently after a few years of water-cooled peltier experience (great oc, only a few tube explosions over the course of 3 or 4 years...), so I've been waiting for the next thing I could chase after to satisfy the oc bug that lives on in my brain.

Maybe overclocking, but watercooling will never die.

Some people value silence... Something a phase change system will never provide.

Interesting link, I thought it was vaporware (is this the correct term here?) lol
