is there something in my bios i'm not seeing? or maybe something that the e8400's have that i'm not aware of? anyway, i have the gigabyte x38-dq6 mb and am running the 8400 @ stock. EVERYTHING is running @ stock. cpuz says my multipier is 6x333 1333fsb giving me 2ghz cpu reading. it does fluctuate* though. sometimes it says my multiplier is 9x333 giving me 3ghz, but then back and forth to 2ghz. i'm using bios F7 and everything runs properly. EVERYTHING else is reading 3ghz for my cpu but cpuz (by bios reads that, this easy tune 5 ocer prog and 3dmark06 all read 3ghz). i'm looking @ everyones cpuz ss and they all read 3ghz as well. what's teh prob? cpuz needs updated? my bios is buggy? idk, i'm just inquirering. thx.

That's normal behavior for EIST (enhanced speed step). The CPU will run at a lower multiplier when idle, and dynamically speed up when under load.

so, i need to look for some EIST setting or something in my bios so i can turn it off or what not? is it ok to turn this off? lol, idk, never seen this be4. this is my first intel chip. never had to do this with amd chips. unless, this is something new. thx 4 the reply.

AMD has a similar feature called Cool n Quiet.

I'd just leave it alone. The processor runs cooler with EIST and C1E enabled and it doesn't affect performance under load for me.

Even if you are overclocking you can leave EIST on - all it does is adjust the multiplier downward when idle.

I noticed the same thing with my new E2180, CPU Z kept saying it was running at 1.2ghz. It made me sad. Good to know it's "normal" idle speed.

Anyone know the stock voltage on an E8400? I know my IP35-Pro has a minimum of 1.2ish... which AFAIK... is kind of high, for this chip (has rated range of 0.85 volt I think to 1.45)
