I'm building a torrent box and wondering what the best client/linux OS combo is.

I like running rtorrent within a screen session: lightweight, capable, fast, and doesn't require a graphical environment.

As for the distro, pick whatever you want. I like Debian, but if you're completely new to Linux then Ubuntu might suit you better.

I have been using Suse 10.3 for my torrentbox. I installed it to try it out and left it as is but any distro will do however. My client is currently azureus which i would like to get rid of because it has been royally pissing me off with that Vuze bullshit. Lately i have been trying Deluge and it seems to be an alright client.

another vote for a torrentflux client its pretty slick. been using it for quite awhile now, it takes some setup but once done its easily used

I've used Ktorrent and it's not bad. I prefer it over Azureus. That damn thing is so bloated it's not even funny.

Amazingly enough, I actually run utorrent via Wine. I got so accustomed to it over time that I just can't stand to use anything else. I have openSUSE 10.3 as my distro and it works great.

+1 for torrenflux-b4rt. Thats what I'm using now in my headless Ubuntu Server.

@ mattgyver79
Yeah thats why I stayed on the older versions of Azureus.

+2 for torrentflux-b4rt, I just wish it was still updated :( It occasionally gets a bit buggy here and there

Im setting one up with Ubuntu server and torrentflux running on a p3, 192mb ram and 80gb hdd.

The 80gb is just a temp drive, once it is done downloading i copy it over to my main server. And that is the only drive i had to spare. And no i dont download pr0n.

+1 for compiled rtorrent/libtorrent or the deb package if you don't use dht

running rtorrent/screen/rtorrentstatus on my XP1900+ box with 6x500GB RAID5 and 320GB temp drive

torrentflux was good for a while.. and then started doing odd things. I wouldn't mind a web interface for rtorrent tho ;)
