I don't know when Apple got this working properly, or what network quirk got it running properly, but this is quite possibly the best tool ever. My sister was working on a poster for Panhellenic in Photoshop, and after much frustration trying to walk her through creating a border, I started up screen sharing and took control from 600 miles away. There was very little lag, and apart from a weird little habit of hurling the mouse into a random corner on occasion, I was able to use every aspect of her computer like it was my own. The poster wound up looking better than the one suggested by the chapter president, my sister is happy, and I got to meddle with her computer, and unknowingly set her up for the lolcat RSS feed. Good times all around.

It is exclusive to Leopard, but this is still the first time I've gotten it working. Even when we were home over break, on the same network, it would sit and sputter at me and refuse to connect unless I went through the network screen sharing. Being able to do it with any Leopard enabled Mac over iChat is fantastic news as far as helping people goes. I can't count the number of times I've been on the phone with my mom trying to talk her through something simple, and having to go into elaborate detail for an hour before she gets it right.

yeah, screen sharing is the shiznit! i got my parents a 20 inch imac for christmas, even though i wasnt there, and shortly after it was opened, and i had my brother in law set up ichat for them, i took over the computer and finished setting it up for them.

it is awesome. i am in south korea, and they are in oklahoma. as long as their isp (local wireless provider) isnt getting slammed, it is totally usable. screen refresh is a little slow at that distance, but good enough to do what i need to do for them. it is definitely a God-send when it comes to helping them with their compy problems now. :D

i just wish i could remotely start it without them having to ok it. then i could do simple maintenances with out them even having to be there.
