Who bought up all the Accelero Rev 2's!!!

Don't go cheap, get a Thermalright HR-03 GT! :D

Plus you won't have to give up two adjacent slots.

You only give up one slot w/ the Accelero unless you add a fan. Then you give up two slots.

This is a S1 thread, don't hijack it with your nickel-plated, pseudo-passive, overpriced yuppie-luxury!

Besides, in the bottom orientation the hr-03gt takes up 5 slots with a fan. And in the top orientation hits people's cpu heatsink, northbridge heatsink, or another card.

I'd like to know who is responsible too cause I was gonna order TWO of them!

i am at my PC 95% of my life.. and i just happened to be installing an uppipe in my car this morning.. otherwise I would have had one for sure..

No fans are required to keep that cool? How well does it cool without a fan? The newegg ratings say temps went down by 20 degrees celcius(I obviously don't trust those comments too much). If that's true, it's awesome price.
edit: How does it compare to HR-03 GT like somebody mentioned?

Want to know who bought em?

I'd bet they show up on fleabay before the day is over.

If you have any amount of airflow through your case "passive" cooling works well. And those comments aren't far off from the reviews I've seen. I havn't seen any direct comparison between the HR-03 and the S1.

It has "Swiss design" which encapsulates a small sample of eternal freezer burn. Thus, each S1 carries with it a small piece of the legendary Swiss Alps. This meticulous process can only be executed at a Chinese Manufacturing plant, where they use many more secret techniques of their own. These techniques have been passed down from generation to generation, since the 80's.

It also uses spaced out aluminum fins. This space age material is much more efficient at dissipating heat than the plastic fins I'm used to.

I bought an accelero from directron.com a few months back. Although they are also sold out of s1 rev 2 they are supposed to have them back in stock on 1/30/08, which is almost two weeks sooner than when newegg is expecting more.

I'm guessing the E8400 release is causing a run on V.cards as well as CPUs with people upgrading.

Well at this point over 11,000 [H]ardOCP visitors have read my review on the Accelero S1... I don't want to toot my own horn or anything but if just 10 percent of those people bought one that's 1,000 orders right there. :D

I don't regret it a single bit, ok well maybe a little because I was going to buy another for when I get my second 8800GT and go SLI. :D

will this fit one of the "older" 640 gts 8800's, specifically the overlclocked bfg

Nope the older 8800 cards (G80 based) use a diferent mounting hole pattern and are not compatible with either the original Accelero S1 or the new revision 2 according to everything I've read.

In this case you might want to consider the Thermalright HR-03 unit...

i have the HR-03 plus (Thermalright) that i took off from the 640m card that i might sell. all you have to do is clean the hs for the ram and you're good to go. lemme know if you're interested..

I got one of these a few months ago and used it for about 5 days on an x850XT before my CPU gave out and I had to build an entirely new system. Guess I should Ebay it as they're in demand!

I bought mine from aerocooler.com. Suppose to arrive Friday. If you ship to a different address than your billing address it causes a bit of hassle. (Have to fax something to them saying it's ok and you really are you.)

For those wondering about passive cooling, SPCR's review of it couldn't keep their X1950XTX cool without the fan. They loaded a 120mm Nexus on it for some cooling goodness, though.

It seems to take up nearly four slots with the fan, though, or nearly three and a half. o_O

I kinda want one. I just ordered a 2900Pro (hehe) and I don't think I'll like the humongous fan on it. Not for the size, but for the efficiency. Or maybe my VF900 will fit on it.

From what I've seen, the real secret to using these in true passive setups it to run your case at negative pressure. If your at negative pressure you force air across the fins from the air intake at the back of the case. If you don't generate any airflow across them via case pressure diffrential, even positive pressure blowing "hot" air across them is much better than no airflow, then you will have problems. With the wide fin spacing on these, they preform well with low CFM flow, but it has to be some, not zero.

I'm running mine w/ an 800 rpm 120mm fan, it's extremely quiet. You could even do 500RPM, which is by most accounts silent. (I'm a regular over at SPCR). All in all my system is very cool and quiet... and overclocked. ;)

Fan mounts easily w/ 4 zip ties. Some people use thin close-cell foam to buffer the vibes from the fan to the heatsink (I did). Also, the general consensus is to remove the plastic end-caps, as they dont' do anything.

I want one of these yesterday - not in stock anywhere! I've got a 8800 GTS G92 just waiting to run passively at 720/1100. :p

The Accelero S2 notice I said S2, as well as the S1 IMO are the best VGA coolers all around in aspect. I have the S2 w/ turbo module fans(Cmon only $8 for 2 dead silent fans) and it keeps my 8800GT @ 700/1990 @53C after 15 minutes of artifact scan. $17 cooler+ $8 turbo module fans +shipping+ results just shown=No brainer. It keeps the card very cool, it's very affordable and its very quiet. Pretty much the paramount VGA cooling dream.

My rev 2 arrived today, ill unbox it when i get home. I want to make sure its truley a rev 2. I dont even know how to tell the difference besides the widened pipes.

i might install it tonight, depends how tired i am after work. I only have AS5 and alcohol so i dont know if i have all the neccessary install items anyway.

PS, My 8800GT always idles pretty warm in my room, 45C-50C.

You really don't need to use AS5 on the GPU core since the S1 rev. 2 has MX2 pre-applied. I've seen discussion that MX2 works just as well or better than AS5.

ok thanks for the tips. I havent bought that AS stuff in a while so i have a tube of AS3 and AS5.

I guess all i need to do is clean the memory chips well then, and stick on the new sinks.

hmm i dont know if i got a rev 2 or not. i havent opened it yet in case i want to return it. but prob not worth the trouble of returning it anyway.

Should be no need to return it unless you're using a card that the original doesn't support.

There is no performance difference between the S1 and the S1 Revision 2. Revision 2 just changes the mounting mechanism (added an additional set of holes) to add further compatability with more ATI cards.
