Let's say for example I buy a ABIT IP35 Pro. And put a 8800GTS 512 in the main PCIe slot. Could I put my old x1650 pro in the other PCIe slot and use it for a second monitor? It is only electrical x4... would this cause a problem?

Well first off since that 8800 has dual ports on it you can run 2 monitors off of it with no problem.

Second yes you should be able to run two video cards on the same system fine but with one nvidia and one ati expect some weird quarks with drivers and such

Nvidia=SLI
ATI=Corssfire

I don't think they are "interchangeable"

You are better off just using your Nvidia for two monitors.

SLI/Crossfire has nothing to do with his question.

Though, I agree, you can run 2 monitors off of a single vidcard. Now, if you wanted a 3rd monitor... then yes, you could do what you are asking. And yes, you may run into driver issues as Mr. Cranston mentioned.

So you have ATI display drivers running one monitor and Nvidia running another? It doesn't seem like it should work does it.... I think it would just create system conflicts.

Why wouldn't it? I havent tried, but I have run two different brand GPUs with different drivers in the same system before.

Just don't install the 2 control panels. I"m sure you can install just the INFs and get as good performance just not tweaking. I'd get the INFs for the LATEST drivers on each card and manually install them -- That would avoid any conflict since we can avoid using the UI's and the core stuff to use the cards at their best performance is still there.

I also agree with the above post in having useless comments about SLI/Crossfire-- Not cool. Please don't post if you're misleading the person, this forum is to help not confuse :) I know mistakes happen just do a little research to re-affirm your current belief.

I still don't understand why people think its an impossible task. If it were impossible, that would be illogical.
