thanks for the update, i just checked 2 days ago, which means i would not have checked again for a couple months.

I'm still on P28. I thought I have seen some posts that say the 31 was not good.

Normally I would upgrade, but I'm a little hesitant. Any real reason to if in general I'm pretty stable these days? running a e6700 cpu

I'm using p31 bios rev. but initially it seemed to make my machine "not snappy".
I reverted back to p30 bios, and my rig didn't seem to be running as well as it did initially with p30. Now i'm back to P31 and my machine is flying again
go figure ...

People have had good luck forcing a flash to XFX's modified P31 on the EVGA boards -- increased OCs, stability with tighter memory timings, etc. For those wondering what the big deal is, "P31 is P31" -- apparently not. People have gone through and done comparisons, and more than a few lines and the splash screen has been altered in the XFX BIOS. There's a thread on this at the EVGA forums.

I'm running P32 now, but I may drop back and try the XFX BIOS.

So far I've not noticed any diffrince good or bad from updating to the new bios.

I was having some freezing before I updated the bios and that seems to have gone away. But I don't know that I'll credit it being fixed with the bios update just yet.

Well..update...

I went to the p32..for a while..
but as Dan_D mentioned on another thread, there were issues.. specifically, I saw a couple BSOD's on nvraid service, etc...

So, luckily, I still had the p28 on a floppy, and went back to that . No more BSOD's.

I am interested in silent-circuit's comment about forcing the xfx's modified p31.

Any feedback on forcing the xfx to a evga?

Do you need a BIOS update to support Vista on a Evga 680i SE SLI motherboard?(122-CK-NF63-TR)

And do i need a update to support the Core 2 Quads?

what bios are you on now? that would be helpful to know.

on the p28, I am running a quad ( qx6700..slightly oc'd to 3.2 ghz, and 4x2gb pc800 ram for tot of 8gb ) and Vista 64 Ultimate.

So, if it isnt at p28, I would look for that maybe, if your mobo is at stock bios. But my experience is to avoid the p31 or 32

re boot, mash "pause/break" key...do you see a POST screen...or just some flashy emblem?

if you dont see the post screen..the one that says what processor, memory, etc..then hit delete key , or f2, or whatever, to get into the bios and disabale logo or whatever.

If you see the post screen..it should say bios -xxxxx28p, or something similar

Thanks, i need to try that. BTW what motherboard do you have?

P30, 31, and 32 worked just fine for me when I had my 680i SLI.

If you're overclocking a Quad the thing right now is to force a flash to the XFX-modified P31 BIOS on an EVGA board. Does wonders, or so I read on the forums over there.

well damn you silent-circuit! LOL

thanks for checking back in. I thought you had said you didnt like the 31+32

3far4... I have a evga 680i ar

and this is the last nvidia mobo i will buy. never been particularly stable, regardless of bios. maingear, the integrator i bought the complete system from, has stood behind it very well. they have supported me exactly the way the [H] critques have found. If your looking for e well built machine, as in you have the money and for a change from bulding my own shizzle, decide to pay a little extra and buy a built system, Maingear is AWESOME. No regrets ever.

In the end though, being a enthusiast, I get to tinkering. So back to building my own shit next time I spose.

worst part of it all for me is connecting the stupid little case wires ( hdd lite, pwr, etc ) to the mobo. Always h8'd that part.

anyway, guess Ill do some searchin on the xfx pushed bios on evga's.

/hugs

Is upgrading your PC in Vista the same as XP? Like if i want a better CPU and i have Vista can i just swap the old one out and install the new one on the board?

Or should i upgrade before installing Vista?

generally speaking yes..... if you continue to swap parts out then it may be a problem but if its just a cpu no biggie.... tho since the os is tied to your mobo you change that you technicly need a new key for windows eitherway it will need atleast a repair of windows to work again..... since i recycle hdd's i usually just run a repair to make things hunky dorey but when i built my new system i bought a new copy of vista since i was running two vista machines... i needed two key's. if the other system wasnt working i would have reused my other vista

I updated to bios 32 w/ my e6600 and swap in the e8400 and doing 4.0ghz at 1.3 volts easily. I also tried for 15 min 4.5ghz at 1.4825 volts fine and orthos it for 10 min w/ no problem. I didnt want to push it too long bc I dont know if the temps reading are right on mine yet. Getting 36 and 45. The 45 degrees wouldnt move until the 36 degrees catches up to it so I am a little suspicious of it. But it has performed beyond my expectation as I have the AR version of the board not the A1. So at the moment highest I have gotten is 500 fsb w/ the new bios, was never able to get that b4. Hope that helps

well.. i had issues with p32, that why I bailed on it. bsod's tied to raid controller..hmm..others too.

p28 was always stable for me. So..

i am considering flashing back to p28, anybody know where i can find it? i looked around on evga's site but no luck

I tried the P32 just for the heck of it. All it did was make my pci slots not work correctly and I lost wireless. Didn't need wolfdale support so went back to p31. theres me 2 cents :-D

if your good at p31 now, then stay. If your having what seem like hardware issues, try p28

incidently, p28 can be found on the evga forums. Some guys may a iso that 's burnable, and it contains all the 680i bios in one disc, you just tel it which to use when you boot to it
