Akai? Weird. I only knew them for making samplers. Can't be too bad a deal though.

As an aside, it's always bugged me how editing the title of a thread doesn't affect its appearance in the forum index. What up with that?

+ $50 shipping to my zip code.

Good deal, but I decided to wait until the end of the year for a new TV. Or maybe if the planned $800 tax rebate comes in the next couple of months I'll change my mind. :D

Not a bad price, but I'd stay away from it IMO. Or go with the 12% off coupon at bestbuy for a 42" Westinghouse...

I'm personally trying to hold out on that in hopes for a large price drop of some other 37" or 42" models. If a 42" Westinghouse or similar hits $800 out the door I'ma grab it.

You only get a certain amount of minutes to edit it, after X amount of minutes it won't change in the forum index.

I use to have a complete Akai Stereo system back in the day, Complete with a reel to reel, it was really nice to record several albums to the reel to reel and have 8 hours of music of your choice nonstop. Akai back then was very respectable brand, it was sometime in the late 80s I think when I had the system. However i have seen several brands be reborn and the only thing they had to do with the originol company was the actual name, quality was a differant story.

Even if it is recertified its still a great deal considering its hard to find any 1080p LCD at this price. If only I had the money I would get it as I really need a new TV and I think this is a great deal.

Their TVs are horrible...I own a 32" model and its picture is atrocious. I only paid $100 for it but still...wasn't worth it.

The 1080P designation really doesn't matter much at that screen size. Unless you watch the TV from 2 feet away, your eyes won't tell the difference.

most of the reviews on this set are 4 of 5 stars.

You don't have a 32" tv with 1080p and thus you don't have a comparable set.

Speaking from experience with Akai televisions, they suck. For a budget TV go with a Westinghouse. I do professional installs and I also fix sets. I think I know my way around a TV as well as the picture they offer.

I bought an Akai 32" in Sept, and am very pleased with it. From my research, I found that the screen was probably made by Samsung.

No complaints at all.

true but if it means you can run 1920x1080 if you hook up a computer instead of 1280x720, that would be nice

I dont have any info on the TV, but I will say that eCOST will NEVER have my business again. I have ordered things from them in the past, the item was advertised as NEW, and they sent me obviously used products. When I called to complain, they would "open a ticket and the resolution team would be contacting me in 48hrs." That never happened. I even gave them an extra 3 days... Each time I've had an issue with them, I had to end up calling my credit card company to reverse charges to get eCost to respond to me. It's funny how fast they respond when you take your money back and still have the item.

Yes, eCost has very low prices, but I'll warn you that you may (or may not) get what you pay for, as the saying goes.

Contrast: 800:1 <---- VERY LOW and this is also extremely bad in today's world. Even the 720p screens have a better contrast ratio than this. You really don't want anything under 3000:1 for color contract ratio.
As far as Akai goes, my ex-boss bought one and it was the same screen a few months ago. They are re certified and are known for coming in DOA. He's sent it back 3 times and finally got one that has worked for more than 2 weeks. Also, the manufacturer's warranty leaves something to be desired. Check out the documentation.

yah... buyer beware. ecost has the best prices, but very very much a gamble. i remember the westinghouse lvm-37w3 fiasco, where almost everyone's boxes had been tampered with. mine had a big rip on one of the side handle areas, one of the top corner styrofoam things had been moved, and a corner had been crushed. some others have had boxes cut so deep their screens got sliced too. i remember that whole deal about a couple getting a "new" camera that had footage of ecost workers goofing off with it. i'm still not sure how these guys get their hands on such cheap items, but they really do have massive balls for all the deceiving and horrible shipping methods. love my cheapass lcd regardless.
