This is my Z-Audio Lambda and my HD650's, source is my Auzentech Prelude.

Nice recable...i ve got a soft spot in my heart for Canare cables...and shiny Ear HP4, heck you even have seperate outputs for varying impedance headphones, you get what you pay for eh?
And is that a Dynaco power amp i see in one of those pics?

@iron

thanks for the quick review. i guess i might as well stick with the dedicated source instead of saving up for a pico...and i dont really do portable audio that much anyways

Just won a tube buffer to go along with what I have now...

I'll dig out an old digicam from my closest to try and take better pics. I really don't have much use for a camera otherwise

Are those cardas cables aardvark? I really want to recable mine but don't want to spend ridiculous money in the process. Thinking about doing it DIY.

OMG...
Audio Technica ATH-L3000 cost $2800?! DAYUM! I was looking at maybe getting them before I saw the price tag...Kudos to you sir!

I'm going to go back to just lurking in here and not posting...

Hahaha, well thank goodness I didn't have to pay nearly that much for them, not that they wouldn't be worth it :D

Yeah, these are the retail version of Cardas cables. I dont have any DIY skills, so I bought them here.

I have a 4 foot mini terminated cable, which is now less than optimal, as the EAR HP4 uses 1/4 inch. I'm trying to track down my original wire, as it is longer too, but I'll probably get another recable with proper length and termination at some point in the next few months. I may stick w/ Cardas since its the sound I know most intimately, and thus no risk.
I believe Cardas has since switched to gray conduit though.

Those look nice. I mainly want to recable just to have a shorter length. I've read (and have witnessed myself) that cable length can affect sound over analog equipment. I've witnessed this personally when using a 9' cable and a 15' cable over a pair of speakers. The longer cable was ever so slightly lower in volume than the shorter one, causing me to have to adjust the balance. I would imagine there would be a similar affect with the very long length of the stock 650 cable.

The Cardas I have now is 4 feet. But its too short to reach the computer, unless I move the monitor, but then I'd have to move the mid tower, then the outlet strip, etc.

I think I read that speaker cables should be at least 8 feet (the type used for AKG K1000), but everything else benefits from shorter cables. Balanced XLR cables hold the signal longer than single-ended types, such as RCA - or so I've read.

I think anywhere between 7-9 feet is a good length.

How are you liking the headsix? It looks like a sweet little amp.

I love it, especially with my KSC75. Big difference, the sound is fuller, bass is more textured mids are more forwards and treble is smoothen out.

On my beyers not so much, mids are better which is a good thing especially since they are closed. Bass is more controlled but these don't respond to amping like the Koss does.
I love the sound of the ksc75 so much people over at head-fi recommended the Goldring Dr-150's and that's where I am headed right now.

I did not care for the DR-150 at all. I don't see the appeal, I don't know why they get so much love at head-fi.

Good to see you got your amp in! I never realized how compact the HP4 was, it must make a killer desktop rig with that Bel Canto Dac3 feeding it!

WOW....hows the difference treating you? or did you decide that the HE90 was over the top and wasnt worth your money and time?

That it does, that it does
Probably my final setup for HD650s really. I just need longer cables n whatnot.
I love how they compacted the transformers inside a box, its much easier to work with than something like a Zana Duex or B52.

Now I can finally focus on buying music. Lots of music. :D

Adrian (akwok) and I talked about this. A headphone is STILL a headphone when it comes down to it. His preference remains with speakers.

My final headphone setup since my last (HE90 & ES-1):

Are you actually using Justins new pico to drive those HE's !? I am having a hard time deciding if I should get two pico's,or two tomahawks (one for me,one for the wife)

You betcha.

Yes, they are driving the HD650s. It sounds marvelous too, with the HD650s that is -- as good as I've ever heard them (and I've paired them with a lot of high quality amps and sourcesstuff).

Just make sure you get the DAC with it (the amp is great, but the DAC is killer).

I would definitely get the Picos over the Tomahawks regardless -- they're not even in the same class..

I'm finally getting around to putting up my precious Beyerdynamic DT770 "Darth Zebra" cans!
Probably the best PC/Tech/Audio/etc related purchase I've ever made. They are glorious. I bet they could use a better amp tho.... but this Misterx Pimeta has been serving me well :)
