A new(I think) spin on the "mouse" threads

I'm looking for a good mouse to replace my standard "Microsoft Laser Mouse"... I don't want wireless, I don't want to pay a fortune(prefeably $60 or less), and I want it to be comfortable.

But here's where I diverge from the normal "Razer or Logitech, G5 or G9 threads"... It needs to be quiet, really quiet. Nothing drives my wife more insane than the clicking of the mouse from games. (Latest bloodbath: Medieval 2 total war).

Any Ideas?

get the wife an mp3 player or some ear plugs.

Doesn't work, we like to listen to music together over the stereo.

i googled a silent mouse, dunno how great this is, but its a start. never thought about a silent mouse lol.

hmm. Ok. And yeah, I never really thought about it before either. But it really pisses her off.

Move your computer to another room.

We've only got this room and a kitchen. Doesn't work, plus I don't want that anyway. ;)

Have you tried 'go to sleep woman, I'm playing a game'? If that doesn't work then I don't know what else you could (legally) do. Sounds like you got yourself a problem. ;)

Exactly ;)

You're going about fixing this problem the wrong way, I suggest shouting at your wife loud and reguarly and over time this will lessen her hearing capacity until it no longer bothers her.

And if she argues back, well

What about getting the mouse you want, and finding silent microswitches that would work in it?

I'm a n00b in those parts, but just a thought.

my razer diamondback isnt that loud... a,though maybe im just used to it...

Go to a brick and mortar like best buy and check them out there.find one that fits your needs :)

Sounds like one of those people that complains for the sake of complaining. Kick her in the clunge and tell her to fuck off.

do not get a habu. Its a great mouse(I use it) but it is loud. My sister's Logitech MX400 is quiet though.

lol

i just picked up a Logitech G5 over xmas and its silent might want to look at the G3 for a bit less too

No, just don't like the trend of compromises only coming from one side in a relationship.

OMOGMGOMGOGMOGMGOGM MOUSE CLICKSZ MY HEAD

Fuck off.

Dude, you got issues.

Anyway, i could see how mouse clicking could get on my nerves so i think its valid, you might say it wouldn't, but thats you.

Sorry i don't have any suggestions, except get off the PC and get on her :p

the logitech G5 I have makes very loud clicking noises when buttons are clicked.

It doesn't make very loud clicking noises, but yes, it isn't silent. My Copperhead is louder than the G5, and as I recall the Lachesis and Death Adder are also both very loud. I can't say about the G9 or G3, but I can say this: I have never even considered the loudness of the mouse clicks as a criterion for design in a mouse, so it's unlikely that any major brand, quality gaming mouse will fit your needs.

To be honest my Deathadder is rather loud when clicking. Especially the right click for some reason. Maybe it's still breaking in or something.

Go to a computer shop and click away!

And who the hell said I'm constantly making compromises?? She's on the other side of the room at her desk studying. I hardly blame her. if I wasn't focused on the game, I would probably be annoyed too.

I figured there wouldn't be much of mainstream design concept, hence why I felt the need to ask if there were any particularly silent mice out there. I guess I'll just have to head to media markt and try and get them to let me touch their mice. :p

Get a touchpad, and touch the pad insted of clicking.

or

New wife :p

Wow lol, the least serious thread I have read in a while, that actually has a somewhat serious topic.

All I can say is DON'T consider a G5 or MX1000, they are both a bit loud. The MX1000 has a nice clikcing sound, but a loud one (it doesn't have that annoying high pitched click). The G5, on the other hand, is a bit more high piitched. Play in the garage?

hmm I think my g9 is pretty quiet if I remember right, but I'll check again at home after work and revisit this thread.

My G5 makes a pretty hefty clicking sound (as well as the clicks from the scroll wheel), so that probably wouldn't be a good choice.

As someone mentioned before, a touchpad would be silent, although probably not the best thing for playing a game.

I'd say just go to some electronics store (Best Buy or whatever) and try out the mice and see which one is the most quiet.

i saw a sale on the razer diamondback g3 i think, and reading the specs, it said the buttons were 'silent'

edit: it was a user review on newegg where i read that,

Pros: It is very precise and smooth in it's movements, I do not use a mousepad and this has not caused any problems with this mouse. The mouse buttons click easily and are absolutely silent (good for those of us with roommates). Overall, very easy to use and of very high quality for gaming.

wow... lot of trash talk for a simple question. I had the same problem when my computer used to be in my bedroom . I never found the best solution ... but the logitech mouse i bought was pretty good . It was a mx518 if im right.

Is there any mouse with touch button ala touchpad? that would be neat

I created a new thread elsewhere, since this forum seems to have all the angsty geeks who cry themselves to sleep with a playboy in hand.

To those who offered real responses, thank you.

my mx510 drives me nuts when it's late at ngith and I dont have the music playing

and it's me doing the clicking

Dude, if your wife is getting batshit pissed over mouse clicking you two have some serious issues and it might be time to take a break and work on them. :(

Its an annoying repetitive sound, and I could imagine it to be fucking annoying as hell.

And no, she's not getting batshit pissed (where the fuck did I say that?) over it, she's being annoying by it and I'm trying to find a solution. You wannabe machos really need to take a good serious look at yourselves if you don't want to be playing with your wet noodle and palmela handerson all your life.

Sending her away is not a solution. Why? Because I like her. (WHAT A CONCEPT!?) and like having her in the same room so that I can talk to her, or joke with her or try and comprehend the shit she's studying.
