EVE-Online a good game ??

Does the (H)corp cater to the casual player who can't get on as much? With my job and such, i was playing it casual so i didn't get into the Corp thing really at all. Ended up leveling the skills and mining pretty much most of the time and running freight to earn cash. Was doing low level mission 3's and hard 2's but thats as far as i got before i had to quit due to real life stuff going on.
Now that i can get back to it some, i was just curious about the state of the game. (Although i still will be pretty casual for awhile if and when i do return)
I heard they updated the graphics and was curious if they are better?

We are definitely casual friendly. I have a 1yr old running around so I don't always get large chunks of time available. But when I do there's often some kind pvp hunting going on in our alliance so I join up with their gang for a little fun. Drop into the Tew system and submit an App Kamxam. You won't regret it.

If you can't wait for some very short 4-day skills to train (even when they train while you're offline!) then you'll never make it in this game. You could certainly forget about training anything for cruisers and up... those 2-week+ skills would kill you.

In my opinion, it only makes it all the sweeter. There's no better feeling than finishing level 5 in a long-ass skill just so you can see you are better than 99% of the other people that are too lazy to train it.

ST:O. LOL. Good luck with that....

I can wait, I just can't pay for something that doesn't feel rewarding enough through 14 days of play & Like the other poster said it felt like an interactive screen saver much of the time. Not that the game is bad, the graphics were excellent, the games mechanics are nice and deep, and the community was extremely friendly. ST:O looks great so far, don't see any reason to LOL over that.... ST:O may be drivin to more casual gamers but being a Trekky I have high hopes for a few things like the multi-player controlled ships and a good story with tie ins with the show/movies, and definitely away missions.

I'm a retired recon pilot myself. I've heard about the new graphics but I dont want to get started in this game again for one reason. BoB. Could any of you BoS mates give me some info on the outposts in FAT and 25S (will IAC be getting them back anytime soon?)

Not only do they have them back, but the area should be pretty damn safe since tons of coalition forces are staging out of that area into Delve now. No need to worry about BoB anymore. :p

Oy. They took those back and then some. I turn your attention to exhibit A:

EVE Influence Map

Yeah... BOB is on it's last legs. Pushed back into it's home systems, surrounded on all sides.

The clock is ticking for BOB....

Gotta get out of 0.0... Then BoB/alliance war drama would not bother you in the least.

page 4? OH NOOES! Bump.

Life in [H]ard Corp is good. We've recently improved our 0.0 space with some very nice additions, Brotherhood of Steel alliance is still holding soveriegnty in the Querious region, and we've undergone a Corp Hangar reconstruction to make it more secure, more noob friendly, and more organized.

If you have an interested, evemail me ingame (MorbidPenguin) or join the Hard-Recruiting channel.

FAKE EDIT: And I'm so friggin' giddy. I got my Helios fitted today and I'm warping around cloaked. I feel like a kid in a candy shop. I love getting new toys to play with. Exploration, here I come!

Is there any way to detect a cloaked ship?

Right now I am still struggling to find enough time to continue learning. I am close to being able to learn the mining barge skill but I know there are some additions I will need before I can fully utilize that class.

As stated, you can't probe or scan for cloaked ships.

As for learning, you have EVEMON, right? Helps immensely. Plugin what you want to learn it'll recommend learning skills that'll reduce your overall training time.

I had already read the basic blurb on cloaking, I was just wondering if there was something more advanced that could overcome it that I was not aware of yet.

Oh yeah, I am already using EVE-MON, the problem I have is a lack of proximity to the main corp station so I do not have the money for skills or equipment to progress. I am only a bit away from actually being able to utilize a mining barge and only a bit further from being able to pilot cruisers.

Main corp station is in Tew - plenty of supplies and ships there.

We also have our new base in querious, as well. We've got the corp hangars setup and there should be plenty of skillbooks and other supplies for you out there as well.

...I still have to get the skillbooks out there.

Don't forget you can also just pod jump or clone jump to empire to buy skillbooks.

carriers, yes.

Not really a huge need, though. We're only a few fairly safe jumps from empire, so you can just fly them in.

Just got back into it last night. (Wasn't playing WoW much so i canceled it for the moment) Still have my mining barge and decided to keep on the mining track on learning till i can afford better ships again. Probably will upgrade the power management and warfare skills tho to help in missions.

I did this level 1 mission that had me kill an ex employee of the Caldari state. After completing the mission I noticed my Caldari state standing go down .8%. So now Im down to .02 standing. How do I increase this standing. So far the only way I found was doing story missions but thats going to take a while. So are there any missions I can do that will change the standing?

Quick little bump: Steam will carry EVE Online as of next month. (Supposedly there will also be a related 21-day trial coming up, but it's not available yet.)

haven't played in a long time but recently reactivated my account... just over 3mil skill points so still a noob. bad thing is i gave my friend all my ships (minus a few frigs) and cash... nothing i can't get back. going to try and hit you guys up in-game. name is z0e xiii (lame name i know).

Doing storyline missions for 1 faction will lower your standings with other factions. Only way to equalize it out is to do missions for all 4 factions. Most people don't really care and end up getting negative standings with 1-2 corporations.

The easy way out is to train up a few skills. Look at the social skills - there are some to increase those standings with Caldari state and other factions. There are even skills to help you out if it goes negative.

I have been doing missions for Caldari Navy and some of the other corps that are in the Caldari State. How could I lower my standings when doing missions for Caldari.
Maybe if I knew what missions would make me kill a target that would lower my standings, I would just cancel it. Is there any way to tell?

Also will have any problems if I have low standings? Dont really feel like getting shot by an npc corp.

Doing missions for Caldari corps will lower your faction standings with Gallente when you do the storylines, if I remember correctly.

The only problems if you have low standings is that, eventually, you won't be allowed into that space. if you have -5 standings with Gallente Federation, for example, then you won't be able to go into Gallente space without getting shot.

It would, however, take a long time to get that low and you'd have to do 0 missions for Gallente agents and train 0 social skills to counter it.
Like I said, most mission runners do it for ISK, so they don't really care if their standings with 1 or 2 factions suck - they have their level 4 ISK-factory agents and they're happy.

Not sure that will be a good thing in the long run, but it is certain to bring a lot more targets in :D

Does Hardcorp have a means of jumping ships and equipment out to your 0.0 base?

I grew tired of 0.0 POS seiging, so I left and went pirate for a while. I'm really considering going back out, but the thought of having to move a bunch of my junk out there isn't that appealing right now.

I'm at about 20 mil skill points, fly mostly HAC's and Recons.

We can certainly set up an op to get large quantities of items and ships moved. drduetsch will be able to answer that question much better than me though.

WarriorX - I wouldn't worry about lowering standings with one faction. The key though is, you want to pick a corporation that you want to raise standings with for running misssions. Ideally for me I picked a corp that was close to our 0.0 space so I could go back and forth if necessary. You also want to make sure that the corp you target for doing missions is rather large so that you have more location choices for agents to use. If you right click on a agent and choose Show info then in that window click on the corporation name next to the agents picture that will bring up that corps window. Go to the agents tab and you can view where all the agents for that corp are and what level missions they have. It gives you a feel for the that NPC corp. Give me a shout in game (Ebstein) if you want.

I was thinking about starting playing in about a week or so.
With some experienced players here, if you were to start a new character for PVP which race and skills would you go for? Understanding there probably would be differing answers, at least it gives me ideas and would be interesting to see different perspectives.

i do missions for caldari navy. just dont do the storyline missions and your standings wont decrease against gallente. also dont do kill missions against gallente and your standings wont decrease. you can not do a mission every 24 hours if i recall. you decline two in a row within that period you lose standings with that agent. only real benefit to do storyline is if you want to increase standings with caldari state to put up say a pos in there region. if your not going to do that no bother doing them. when you talk to your agent you will know if its against gallente because it will say so in mission description. just decline it.

The Great Eve War is reaching its apex!
The Northern and Southern Coalitions have been pressing BOB really hard lately in the fight for QY6-RK (Delve Region). We managed to take the system and surrounding area in a huge battle at the start of the week and on Wednesday we reduced around 5 small and 14 Large Towers to ashes, with more going down in K-6K on Friday. BOB being BOB turned the fight around in a showing only they could pull off with a large Cap fleet, Titan and BS backup. The Battle rages on with both sides gaining and losing control of the systems daily.

The Battle for QY6-RK has been the most EPIC battle in EVE history with both sides bringing Hundreds of ships from Frigates to Super Caps and sending the Various Killboards into overload. But As the Coalition forces press deeper and deeper into BOB’s Home systems on 3 sides, the question becomes not if BOB will fall but how much longer until they do? I am hoping for a quick end to this conflict (I can’t keep replacing Ravens like this :-P) but BOB have never fought a battle only to stop half way, so chances are we have Months of Battles ahead!

LONG LIVE IRON
:)

These are the kinds of posts that keep me interested in this game and tempt me to play! I really wonder what will happen to the EVE universe after BoB is scattered. Part of me thinks that they'll reform and try to take over again. On the other hand, I doubt that they'll be able to drum up much support in the future. The 'swarm is an unknown as well...

how involved is [H]ard Corp in the fight against BOB? If I join [H]ard Corp will I be pretty involved in this? Sounds like fun, should be able to install Eve by Monday and will try it out.

[H]ard Corp is fighting against BOB daily, alongside IRON, RAZOR, Goons, and the rest of the coalition.

If you join [H]ard Corp and get into the intel channels, yes, you will get the opportunity to kill BOB. :D

Can anyone give some advice in rolling a character? For instance, is charisma useful in the game besides trading? What attributes should I focus on for a good PVP build?

I've tried to hook up with the [H]Corp a number of times via the [H] Recruitment channel. Is there any specific Time of Day/Night that [H] members are in game? Anyone I can EVEmail?

For PVP, I would recommend higher Perception and Willpower, with decent Int/Mem. Perception and Willpower are the attributes needed for gunnery, drones, missiles, and spaceship command, so they'll help quite a bit.

Charisma is only use for Trading Skills, Social Skills (missing running), and Leadership Skills (leading fleets, fleet bonuses, etc.).

I'm GMT +8, so I tend to keep different hours. I know there are a few people that sit in Hard-Recruiting, but they might be off doing other things. Feel free to evemail me (MorbidPenguin) or 5INISTRY and we'll get you hooked up.

If your going for PVP build you will want your Charisma to be low because the other attribute points are more valuable. Here's a very crude run down of the races.

Amarr - don't know much about them but supposedly not very good.

Caldari - Prefer ships with lots of missile chuckers. More of a distance fighter rather than up close and personal.

Minmatar - This is the hybrid race which uses all types of weapons. Because of this it takes longer to become proficient in all the weapons types because your not specialized in one. Tends to be a up close fighter.

Gellente - These guys like their drones. If you like unleashing a swarm of drone madness on your enemies than you will want this race.

Someone else should be able to add some comments on Amarr. I'll post some guidelines for the other character creation choices tonight when I have some time.

Here's some guides that can help.

What's your in game name? Mine is Ebstein. Shoot 5inistry an in game Evemail.

just created a character. did the tutorial , mined for a bit to save up money for a some learning skills. will start missions soon when I can get a better ship. Game is fun so far, I like it.

As a caldari, what ship should I save to purchase next? There are so many, I have no idea what I should get.

Mesar you will want to get a Merlin. It's a nice Frigate that will get you through missions.

If you want to join [H]ard Corp, just stop on by or join Hard-Recruiting channel (open up the channels from your neocom, hit "join/make" and type "Hard-Recruiting" without the quotes).

Come by and visit and I'll throw you enough isk to get a Merlin up and running. Train the short skills when online and the long ones when offline.

The Delve Campaign has been nothing short of epic. So many players packed into a small region has equaled chaos. Huge fleet battles every day, killing cap ships, its insane.

Its true that in WoW you raid NPC monsters, but in EVE you raid each other. In the last month I've seen 400-man fleet battles, plenty of small-group and 1v1 action. I've been in Deathstar-style POS battles that lasted literally 2 hours of nonstop action. You have to repair each other, shoot enemies that pop out of their shields for a quick attack, be wary of incoming damage while blowing up the POS guns - all at the same time. Having done a lot of WoW raiding, this was a lot more intense. All the more satisfying when what you kill, stays dead permanently.

As a caldari, what ship should I save to purchase next? There are so many, I have no idea what I should get.

The Caldari PvE progression goes: kestrell -> caracal -> drake -> raven. They all use the same basic skills: missiles and shield tanking. Once you get a capable raven you can easily fund whatever it is you will actually do in the game (PvP I hope). You can also easily crosstrain to any other race. I started off Caldari and now fly mostly Amarr in pvp, with some Crows and Blackbirds for flavor. Amarr is getting some huge buffs in the next patch, great timing on my part. :D

Just dont forget its a PvP game, dont mine all day (or at all, ever). Dont be scared to take a cheap kestrel or something and go harass people, steal from them etc. Once you are doing pve in a drake or raven you can fund basically unlimited frigates for pvp. You can even do that on an alt funded by your main, if you are worried about losing implants or whatever.

I would get a kestrel over a merlin. I had a merlin and ditched it for a kestrel with 4 standard missile launchers. I nearly doubled my killing speed and took little to no damage. Train the afterburner skill and equip an afterburner so you can stay at max range. Work up to a caracal cruiser and train connections and go for level 2 missions as fast as possible.
