My pictures of the Cooler Master 690 (the new $50 uber-case!)

grr, i envy you all, i LOVE these cases!!! but, i want a clear side panel, and i cant find them anywhere but the UK ( i think). i guess ill go with a thermaltake

What should I do to keep the noise low? Has anyone tried sound dampening with this case? Also does anyone know what I can use to lower the vibrations of the side panels? like putting a thin rubber strand in the edges of the panels so when I close it, it will prevent from vibrating. Im trying to look were I could buy it but I dont know what to search it under. Thanks. By the way awsome case :D

@illuminate - The panels with the windows are going to be sold in the US in a few months last I heard.

@luis - best thing to keep the noise low is good fans (YateLoon, Nexus, etc). Sound dampening material won't accomplish much as there are so many places for noise to scape through. At the moment I'm not planning to put any fans on the side panel to avoid the side panel vibrations, but if you really want fans there you could try placing rubber washers in between the panel and the fans - it may help.

@LyL, thanks for the compliment :)

Ive placed a Coolermaster 4-in-3 module in my CM 690 for a "non-ghetto" extra front fan. Took some exercise to get it into the case, but it fits perfectly after all.

Ditch the side panel fan. Without it, my case is dead quiet and all I ever hear is my HDD

This is with a total of 6 120mm fans in it.

im thinking about buying this case but i have a couple questions first. has anyone had trouble with their PSUs and getting in the way of the fan at the bottom of the case? is it going to sound like a jet taking off if i fill the case with Scythe S-Flex 120mm 1200RPM fans everywhere except the side panel?

the case looks somewhat cramped to me (then again, ive been using the giant Thermaltake Armor case for two of my previous builds) has anyone had trouble fitting an Asus Maximus Formula and an 8800GTX into this case?

besides those few questions, this is honestly one of the nicest cases i have seen, especially for the price tag its sporting. has a nice clean look, great ventilation, looks very solid, and has planty of places to route cables for great cable management and a nice clean look inside the case.

I have a Yate Loom 140mm fan at the bottom of the case and there is plenty of room. I also have 1 Yate Loom 140mm fan on the side panel and 2 Yate Loom 140mm fans for the top exhaust and, to me, it's very quiet.

With my Silverstone 600w modular I'm not able to comfortably fit a 120mm fan on the bottom. Then again my PSU is pretty long. 1200rpm? You won't hear a thing...

ive been looking through the pictures to get a general idea of what PSUs fit great in this case, i might just throw my old Enermax Liberty 620W in there because it looks like it fits great.

Here's my new build. It's almost finished.

Did you make the hole bigger on the bottom to fit the psu wires through? I am having a hard time getting more than 3 wires through there from my Powerstream.

It was difficult for me too since my PSU is longer than the Corsair. I put them through first then seated the PSU.

I really liked the case but i want it with windows. Are you sure they would make windows for this model? Would they just sell the side cover or do you need to buy the whole case?

They have a side window that's currently only available in Europe but said to be available state-side fairly soon.

I pulled the PS to get all 7 cables through, 6 from the PS and the USB cable from the case, but there's still room for at least 1 more for a second 8800GT.

i couldnt get all mine through so kept the 24pin out and used the cable bracket things and put the rest through, my airflow is still excellent but not as tidy as i woudl have liked :(

Can you provide any more details? I have a Stacker and the RC690. I've been considering moving the guts from my Stacker in the the 690.

You don't need to go out and do that, don't waste your money. There is nothing ghetto about the mod and you don't need to go to the far extent as cutting up the metal brackets
DSC02896.jpg

All that you have to do is swap out the bottom bracket that is for a floppy or card reader with one of the upper drive bay ones and the screw holes match up. Done and done no added cost except for the fan;)

Crotan I did the same thing. I couldn't stand the sound of a fan mounted on the side so I moved it to the front like you did. Temps stayed about the same but it is quite a bit quieter.

I haven’t actually removed the side fan just yet I'm worried that it’s helping my GPU temps and by removing it I will see them raise. So it’s a trade off. I will probably experiment in the coming days to see with or without it my temps differ drastically

Hacked up my CM690 today.. :D

w00t. Me and my Dad took it outside and chopped it up. A little nasty around the edges but it was a quick jigsaw job, and we knew it'd be covered up.

Thanks for the pics NickS, i plan on the same sort of project if/when i get my CM690

This weekend I put together my new computer with this case, was very exciting. :) This case was a dream come true, I really enjoyed working with it. Just the right size and design, simple and damn near perfect. I'll get some pics once my 8800GT arrives later this week (and tidy up cables a little more).

Only thing that bugged me is the power cable for the LED fan up front wasn't long enough to reach my mobo. I can hook it up to my PSU (adding a whole extra power cable there) but wish I could get an extension for it and get it to the mobo instead.

There's not much to say. The 4-in-3 module fits perfectly into the bays of the CM690. I attached a Scythe S-Flex fan to the 4-in-3 module with rubber grommets. The semi-ghetto mod with the metal brackets works okay but there was some resonance. IMHO this is a better solution for some extra (silent) cooling.

Thanks for all of the positive comments guys :) I really like this case now.

Anyone know the cheapest place to get one of these ATM?

Newegg is $45+$20 shipping >:[

I hope there are more MIR+free shipping to come... I cant beleive i didnt get it when it was $20 AR shipped /sigh

If you are local to a Microcenter they have them on sale for 39.99 after rebait..

69.99 - 30 = 39.99.

And I joined the CM690 club as of last night. I got a lot of work ahead of me to get this thing looking photo worthy.

Same here. Newegg wants $54 to ship here!!!

I kinda miss the temps I was getting with this case, but I then look at my new v1000b and think how much I paid for it and can't help but smile :D

ordered my CM690, 4 1200RPM Scythe S-Flex Fans (store only had 2 left in stock so they gave me 2 Yate Loons instead, for free! :D), an Asus Maximus Formula, a Modular 620 Watt Corsair PSU, and a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. cant wait to start building in this beautiful case.

Just wanted to make sure. You said "it took some exercise."

I think I'll try and order a second 4 in 3 module so I can have my Stacker in tact. Thanks for the reply.

Wow. After looking at that module again I've had the profound idea to relocate my hard drives in one.

If someone were to watercool, they'd have the whole bottom corner open.

Well, you have to push on the right places to slide it in. I tried it with brute force, but my girlfriend looked at the situation, took a screwdriver, pushed on the right spot and the whole thing slid into the bays :D

I hope to be building mine sometime either this weekend or early part of next week.

Specs:
Intel Quad Core Q6600
Intel Dtg33l Board
1x320 sata HD
Two IDE dvd burners
On-board video (waiting to get money for a newer card)
On-board sound
2x1gb of PNY DDR2 - 600 Ram
Antec 500w powersupply

Any comments on the build guys?

Hey Nick!!
I didn't know you were on these forums :)

Have you tried OC on that board? Is it any good at it?

ya, that might be usefull

Also, with the sideways mount, I couldn't get the plastic holder all the way in with an IDE hard drive. I was pissed.

Just built a friends comp with this case, it's not bad... especially not for $35...

The HDD cage requires modifying for IDE drives which sucked... and the overall quality and finish is... ~$50 worth.

If someone doesn't have much for a case I'd recommend this, otherwise I'd get something nicer.
