I got my LianLi PC-A05B ! it's Small!

I'm getting ready to purchase a customized A05B from Performance PCs and wanted some suggestions. I want this case to have the best airflow possible with this system:

Q6600
Asus Maximus Formula
XFX 8800 GTX XXX
2 or 3 Seagate SATA Drives
Either Ultra X3 1000 or Tagan BZ 800 Watt PSU

What I know I want:
Custom Case Feet
Top Blow Hole with Grill
G50B Side Panel

Considering:
Blow Hole with Grill in front bezel
Lian Li Side fan

What are your thoughts? Any suggestions welcomed...TIA!

That's average draw...

530 watts under load... How often is your entire system at 100% load?

I thought I would throw up a few pics of the gf's new internet surfing box/spare parts build. Not a firebreather, but a nice quiet machine with some kick to it. I believe that these might be the first pics of the BS-03 expansion slot fan housing in an A-05 for this thread, so I thought you guys might want to see these.

Specs...BadAxe2 MB, E2180 @ 3.0 Ghz, Tuniq Tower (lapped IHS/Tuniq w/Coolaboratory LM), 2GB Corsair @ DDR2-800 4-4-4-12, Nvidia 7300LE passive cooled (she does no 3d so quiet is the word here), Seasonic PS, Lian-Li BS-03 (fan reversed to blow down on video card, etc.), Lian-Li C-01B drive covers, Yate Loon SL's from Petra's (there is a difference) running at 7 volts with the YL in the Tuniq running at 12 volts, side panels and top panel given the Dynamat Xtreem treatment.

Pardon the semi-finished wiring clean-up.

How is the noise on the Lian-Li BS-03? I'm planning on getting one. Great job on the wire management. Can you post a pic on how you manage the wires? I'm assuming they are on the other side above the power supply. Right now, most of my wires are below my Tuniq 120. It also looks like you removed the black grill in the back.

Not much noise, actually silent, but I running a 1250 rpm fan at 7 volts for maybe ~800 rpm. Wire management? LOL They are just stuffed and ziptie anchored behind the HDD rack/power supply. I didnt even sleeve anything, but this machine isnt a showcase like we would go gaga over, just functional and working for what the gf wants. Thanks for the compliment anyway :D. Yeah, I put wire grills in place of the airflow restrictive black mesh the case comes with.

There is? What's the difference from those from jab tech?

YL's from Petra's have the curved blade profile like the Nexus fans. Jab-tech have what is known as 'straight blades'. Petra's get them direct from Yate Loon, other outlets get them from some distributer that gets them from ???. Check Xtreemsystems forums about this, there are a couple threads and airflow/noise tests on both versions of fans, the curved blade/Nexus profile fans from Petra's test better. I noticed a difference as well between the different version of YL SL's I got over the last couple builds.

is that BS-03 a slot exhaust or blower?

It can be both. You can change the orientation of the fan.

Where can I buy the BS-03 online (US)? PCtoys list BS-01 but it is put of stock? BS-01 is not listed in Lian-Li's site.

I bought my Yate Loon fans from PCtoys. I didn't know there was a difference from different vendors.

oh lord plz stop me.. I just bought a tuniq Tower 120..

my first lianli is almost complete.

I have a BS-01 on the way. Dang I think I meant to order the BS-03. :<

Please confirm that both the BS-01 and the BS-03 fit.

Does the BS-01 have any advantage over the BS-03?
I do not see CFM specs for the BS-01.

BS-01 is adjustable, and relies on a side vent. It can be intake or exhaust, as long as you have a vent over it :)

The BS-03 is exhaust only and non-adjustable...

You'll need a g50 panel to use a BS-01, BS-03 won't matter.

Lian-Li parts are very universal, and I commend Lian-Li for that... so many parts are interchangable...

not true, you can turn the bs-03 around quite easily so that it blows into the case.

you can get a bs-03 at performance-pcs.com.

Think about the intake though... the fan is sucking it from the back with the tiny holes, it doesn't make much sense compared to a BS-01...

...

???. BS-01 is a scroll blower that exhausts out the back of the case. Doesnt use a vented panel at all, sucks from above the expansion slots.

i have a pci slot exhaust over my 8800gt will the bs-03 be of any help?

It could be. I'm not sure how the single slot 8800 cooling solutions work, but I know when I had my double slot 8800 GTS on air I found that an Antec double expansion slot exhaust blower was a big help getting the portion of the GTS exhaust that went out the side of the card out of my case. Really helped when I was air cooling, and the 3 speed Antec blower was pretty much silent on 'low' while still doing the job well. If your PCI slot blower is a noisy one, a 12cm fan used in the BS-03 can be much quieter and move more air. Really depends on how you want it to look and sound.

I have both the bs-01 and the bs-03, lol. When I finish my build I'll decide which one to use and depending on that whether to use the extra sidepanel I ordered with the vent holes. :D

Got 1 of my A05's today, rest is showing up tomorrow... began taking it apart...

Only issue I have right now is the BS-01 is exhaust, and I want it to be intake :(

It'll blow cool air directly over my 8800GTS then the GTS can exhaust it out the back... :D

The fan that comes with the BS-01 is weird, has brass threaded inserts and you can't just flip it over, so I might have to find some smaller screws/nuts and do it that way...

Ah. Made it work :)

Just flipped the bracket over and then flipped the fan over... I feel dumb :)

This thread made me register as well (also since it's pretty much the only thread I could find about the PC-A05B).

I'm building a new system that will go into one of these cases, and I've got a question about the hot air pocket and a video card cooler. I'm still a bit torn between two HD3870's:

  • Standard HD3870 (reference board and cooler)

The Gigabyte has a Zalman VF700 AlCu cooler on it. It's an open cooler, while the reference cooler is all shrouded. Would the Zalman actually be less effective in comparison with the shrouded reference cooler, since it's sucking air out of the hot pocket and exhausting more hot air into it?

I built this in November, it's my living room PC, and I wanted it quiet, and have some HT abilities. I haven't taken any pictures of it since I first built it so nothing shows the LG drive.

Specs:
OS: Vista Ultimate
Motherboard: abit IP35 Pro
CPU: E6850 (C2duo 3Ghz)
CPU HSF: Thermaltake V1
RAM: 4GB (2x2GB) G. Skill DDR2 667 4-4-4-12
PSU: Corsair HX620
Optical Drives: LiteOn LH-20A1S DVD burner, LG LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray HD-DVD reader
HDDs: WD 36GB Raptor (for OS), 2 x WD 500GB RE (RAID 1, for storage)
Floppy Drive/Flash Card Reader: Scythe YD-8V08-BK

I thought I'd throw up some pics of the 'finished' version of this machine...the more the merrier, eh? :D

Today my A05B arrived and I started directly to "mod" it.
Actually I wanted to flip the mainboard, but that´s a lot of work. So I left it as it is.

I´ll need to wait till monday, because there are some parts missing (fans etc.)

Man I want this case so bad, I think this is a perfect lan case. I always have the money but it always slips out of my hands and goes to something else. (3870, good buy though btw 220 bux can't beat that)

Is this a new version of the A05? It looks like there's no door to cover the usb/firewire stuff on top and it looks like there's a top vent for about an 80mm fan.

Nope, there is no new version of the A05. I exchanged the top panel from the A05 with the panel from the PC-7SE. Actually I tryed to order the top panel of the PC-7SE III, but it has 12 weeks delivery time.

how did u do that? my top panel is riveted on. i wanted to get a replacement top panel with a blowhole.

Where did you get that cooler for the GPU? im sure its a lian li part just where did you get it?

BS-03 from Performance PC's. Page back one page in this thread, there is some discussion of the expansion slot cooling options available for this case.

How about the Antec cycloneblower, anyone tried it? It looks like it would be ideal for case this using the last upper two slots. It has a handy 3-speed controller at the back and I think it would work better than the BS-03. (assuming you don't use the last 2-3 slots of course)

That's awesome. I really want a blowhole in my A05B, but I'm no good with power tools. Not enough to make a nice clean hole anyway.

But is there a new version of the 7SE? I found some foreign reviews of it but none of them show an I/O port area.

I had one a while back, it is nice. Works very well for a double slot G80 card when on low, very quiet. Takes the heat coming out of the side of the card and gets it out of the case. Worked great to lower case temps in my old P180.
