I have a quad core processor and noticed that it only uses 1 core :( thus making it much slower . Does anyone have a "free" alternative or some kind of fix for this .

Off topic, but I'm honestly and innocently curious.

What programs do you use that use 4 cores? Or even 2?

And what are you trying to do with Gimp that makes it slow? Maybe a different program altogether is what you need.

I do use Gimp, but only for very simple image editing. But I can take a 5000X3000 image, play with the colors and crop and resize with my measly single core proc.

Are you using the most recent version? I'm reading that it wasn't supported on the old versions, but can't find anywhere claiming that it works now...

err...

1) gimp is single-threaded and as such it won't use more then one thread (ie it will sit in one core, on windows GTK may spawn a few threads and they will sit in other cores)
2) gimp aint that CPU-intensive so if one core is getting saturated then you kernel scheduler isn't doing its job and off-loading other apps/threads to other cores

You may not find a free alternative to do something like this, but I can guarantee using one core isn't "making it slower". If you aren't happy with GIMP, give Paint.Net a look.

Dude paint.net is way better for me . I don't do anything fancy just resizing and some other things. Thanks .
