My pictures of the Cooler Master 690 (the new $50 uber-case!)

I did get my rebate last week - I bought from Fry's B&M.

My HDD LED is weak - small red, barely noticeable through the blue glow.

updated pic :p

We come from Belgium. We received the window side panel with the case and the older side panel come too. It's around 65€
Sorry for my bad english =)

Darn, it seems CoolerMaster is only selling the case with the windowed side panel outside of the United States

The windowed side panel will be made available separately. You can buy it in Europe in the mid of January. It will probably be availiable in the US around the same date.

Set my case up... works great. 'Cept for the side-panel fan. Within a day, it has a buzz.

Nothing's rubbing, etc.... it's just got a slight buzz... Anyone else found this? Short of replacement, anyone find a fix?

Loosen the screws a little.

Put your hand over the opening and see if that helps. If the buzz stops it's the air going through the side panel holes. Best fix would be to cut the side panel to the outside if the fan blades.

damn, I was hoping to pick this one up after the holidays, but the price is now up to $79.99 on the Egg... looks like they're back to pricing stuff by popularity instead of by MSRP

I did do that...covering the fan (at least 1/2 of it), does make the noise go away.

I'm not real keen on cutting the case. Rather try other fans or solutions.

What is the actual cause for the noise? Over restricted air flow? or what?

You can't really complain thats the price it first came out with, and then it started droping from there and has been really low for some time

though Clubit has it at $34.99, the shipping may kill you
http://clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=A1306233

Edit: Sold out at ClubIT after it was $4.99 before shipping probably

loosen the screws, give the fan some space to breathe.

Try small o-rings on the screw holes between the fan and the case side.

I have 4 x 140 mm Loons, two on top sucking air out and 2 on the case side sucking air into the case, a 120 mm in the spot next to the PS blowing air into the case but was wondering which direction I should install the 80 mm fan underneath the MB.

Draw air in or exhaust air out?

-Funk

Are you using the bottom and front fans for intake?

Typically that would be an exaust fan, but with the two 140mm fans above it it may work better for an intake.

I would try both ways and monitor your temps to see which is better.

The bottom and front are both intake. Guess trial and error might be the best bet.

-Funk

Using it as an exhaust will probably work best since you have 4 intake fans, and 3 exhaust which will allow for a better balance in airflow than 5 intakes and 2 exhaust. I don't think that 2 exhaust fans will get the job done moving all the warm air out of the case.

Well, as it stands now I have 4 intake and 3 exhaust.

Intake:

Two 140 (62 cfm) Loons bringing air into the case from the side panel and the stock CM intake 120mm in the front. I also have one 120mm (70 cfm) Loon down at the PS as another intake.

Exhaust:

I have two 140 mm (62 cfm) Loons at the top, and a 120 mm (70 cfm) Loon at the rear.

My concern was there is more air going into the case then being exhausted. That is why I was looking to add the 80mm fan as an exhaust fan. The CPU cooler is a Freezer Pro 7 which is blowing 45 cfm at 2500 rpm into the rear exhaust fan.

I have a feeling there is more air in the box than is being evacuated.

has anyones rebate been processed . I am still waiting for my confirmation on www.status-now.com

My rebate has been accepted and is awaiting processing, iow: "we got it but now we'll hold your money for a while to earn some interest" ;). Probably will be here around February.

In other news, I just finished painting my 690 today. :D waiting for the last coat to dry...

Your rebate submission has been processed and your response has been mailed. You should receive it by January 25, 2008. If by this date you have not received your response, please contact us at 1-800-317-1518. Thank you.

I'm waiting on this rebate.. I think I got one through svc as well, but I could be wrong, Gemini Rebate, OCZ Memory Rebate, and surely there's more!

meh come to think of it I don't think I ever got my $35 aquagate rebate.

Yeah... I'm waiting on: 1x 690, 1x Geminii, and 1x Corsair ram, plus I mailed one for the shitty FAR CM PSU today. over $100

Regarding pics... I took some, without any hardware as I haven't ordered some of it yet (no mobo). They're in my camera... I'll try to upload them sometime today if I can.

Edit: PICS! (sorry about the size)

I went with flat black. Disassembled, did a coat of primer, 2 coats of paint + touch ups. Wintertime is not the best time to do this... cold temps + wind + humidity were a pain... But everything worked out :)

Ghetto fan mod stolen/adapted from someone :)

Mostly reassembled:

And it does actually look black when sunlight/flash isn't shining on it :p

this case reminds me of the earliest stacker 810, only that the stacker was huge and hefty!!

Good job and it seems a lot of people are doing the fan mod for the front bays

Just wondering how much of a positive effect there really is to having a 120mm fan in the front bay? I mean, how much difference does it make in cooling?

-Funk

Probably not that big a difference... The reason I'm doing it is to try to equalize the flow of air: I'm planning to have 2x 140mm (top), 1x 120mm (back), plus the vid card blower as exhausts and only 1x 140mm (bottom) and 1x 120mm (front bottom) as intakes (no fans planed for the panel atm)... so I added the extra fan to the front to try to balance the airflow.

@daviasdf - chasis looks good, i plan on doing the same for my next case

I really hope the 690 goes on sale again, Id like to pick one up fo' cheap

My case looks a lot like daviasdf's but I will post a picture of it anyway :). I also am working on side panel window, I will post a pic of that here later as well.

I think this case is great, it's cheap and easily adapted to what you need. I am a first time modder and I think the dissasembly of the case was easy and it's just fun to work with mho.

I haven't been on this forum in ages but I just did, saw this thread, and bought the case. Definitely one of the better valued case purchases I've made. When I get back from winter break, I'm going to cut a window in mine, try to do the sweet front fan hack (although I threw out those scrap metal covers before realizing), and paint the inside. I'm a big supporter of painting the inside, or at least the back... it definitely makes a really big difference in looks.

Has anyone used one of these? Does the mesh go with this case? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999170

edit: nevermind, it looks like that just fits the stacker. I will have to make my own.

Alrighty, so I got my new rig all set up and running and I finally tracked down a digital camera to take some pics. So here they are...
