Hi Everyone,

My name is Frank and I am new- and need some assistance. Basically, right now I have a crappy 19" LCD monitor that is 25MS and... I really would like a new nice one that will be awesome for gaming.

My research has led me to: Samsung 226BW

as one of the best ones out there for gaming. I hear that it is "high definition"(?) and that the only draw back is some fuss over C and S models.

But I want to know if there are any better LCD monitors for around the same price range? Anything else that is as good- if not better.

I will be using this mostly for gaming!

Thanks for all your help!

budget?

and uh... you do know that there's a display subforum, right?

if you are on a budget get the samsung 22" otherwise get the 245 bw 24" I'm getting line this week. :)

So that Samsung is a great choice huh? What about the fuss over the different models- Like the 'S' being much better than the 'C' and 'A'.

I hear that it is "high definition"(?)
High Definition has turned into a marketing buzzword that no longer really means anything. As a 22" monitor, is has a native resolution of 1680x1050. AFAIK In the HDTV world, "HD" indicates a resolution that is greater than 480 horizontal lines (standard def). Most HD content is either 720 lines or 1080 lines. Depending on whether the frames are interlaced or progressive, the common descriptions for HD programming are 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. This 22" could natively handle 720p HD content, but not 1080i or 1080p because it only has 1050 horizontal lines. If you wanted to watch HD movies on this monitor, sometimes the image would be downscaled, which is not always desired. If you're looking for a monitor that does full HD perfectly, aim for a 24" monitor. If you only want to play games then don't worry about it.

I don't know what the differences between the different model types are.

ive got a bw225. its about 14 months old. at 13 months, it started to have trouble turning on, and would take about 10 cycles on the powerbutton to finally show a picture.

samsung gave me no trouble whatsoever getting it replaced under the manufacturer's 3 year warranty. they shipped a replacement and a shipping label to send the old one back in. i didnt have to go a day without a monitor. kudos to samsung for excellent customer service.

so, that, plus your research that led you to the 226bw = [you guessed it].

does the 226 still have the same 3 year warranty?

i have a 22' samsung syncmaster 220wm and it's awesome =D I bought it on black friday for $199 at best buy and it hasn't had any problems yet.
