So... Uhm... I hate that the new iPod is limited to 16gb. That's lame and stupid for it's intended purpose. Thus, I'll exercise my consumer voice by buying a competitor's product :).

I'm looking at the Zune 80gb, but I've got one tiny little question... How fast can one "Flick" through a song? I listen to lots of very long tracks, some can get up to 9 hours in length (Huge DJ mixes, as I used to DJ).

How quickly could I get to, let's say, 2 hrs into the track from the very beginning? Could it be done with 1-2 flicks?

Anyone got any videos of this / are willing to take videos of this? I'd be in your debt forever!

Thanks :)

Just to clear up a few misconceptions, the iPod currently has sizes ranging from 8GB to 16GB on the Touch, and 80 & 160GB on the "Classic" (used to be video iPod). The iPod Nano starts at 4GB and has an 8GB, and the Shuffle is 1GB.

So I guess I am confused as to how the new iPods are limited to 16GB? If you are compairing the iPod Touch to the Zune, that is like comparing an apple to an orange. Sure both are fruits, but they are not the same.

As far as the Zune goes, I have heard good things about the new interface being faster, and the touchpad being a bit more intuitive, but it has some quirks. For example if you are listening to a song the volume control is up and down on the touchpad. Pretty intuitive. If you are listening to music and want to look at pictures on the Zune, then the volume goes to the side and the up and down is for scrolling through the pictures.

I haven't really played with the Zune as of yet, I only know one person that has one, and she has the original Zune not the new ones.

I own a Zune 80 and I don't think you can use the touch feature to seek through music, it only lets me skip to the next song. But what you can do is set the genre of your 9 hour long song to "Podcast" and have the Zune software treat it as an audio podcast, with it being a podcast you can use the touch feature to seek through about 15-20 minutes per swipe. But with the audio file being treated as a podcast it can also have bookmarks too.

yeah cant use the touch feature for fast forwarding if in regular music, to seek you can hold it down and it will fast forward takes about 20-25 sec to go 1hour into an mp3 or like ST|FFY said put genre as podcast and you can add bookmarks

To revive an old thread, I got my Zune 80gb in today. The bookmark feature will, IMO, be amazing, and way more useful than my iPod ever was! Thanks for letting me know that :D

I don't consider a larger rehash of the old iPod video to be a "new" video. I was referring to the newest iPod, the touch (as it actually brings some innovation to the table, worthy of being called a new product, and not the iPod video 5.5.5), which is limited to a measly 16gb of space.

I was never comparing the two... but if I was to, there would be one area of comparison I could easily draw upon; usability. 16gb is not usable for me, therefore, I went with the Zune.

Hmm... How does one mark a song as a podcast, add bookmarks and the like?

This software is *horrid*.

I understand your way of thinking. But the Zune 80GB is pretty much the same as the original Zune 30GB, or did they really do anything innovative with the product? I think the touch wheel is nicer than the original wheel.

The only thing is the price, if you are trying to compare prices then I can see it, but you are still comparing Watermelons and Bananas. Just comparing usablility, well I have a solid state MP3 player for when I work out, and I have a iPod Video for in the car, or traveling. So the Touch would be useful for me for working out and traveling, but it would be limiting since I have a 60GB Video almost filled. But again, I use the solid state MP3 player for different things than the Video.

Though I would love to see a HD based Touch, like a 80 or 160GB Touch. I would buy one of those in a heartbeat.

Fuck sakes. I had a reply typed out, but it's not worth my time to retype it. Stupid forum error :p

My god I'm stupid... Stiffy explained the answer to my question, days ago...
