BFG 8800 GT OC 237.99

Touchdown... Got mine at a local store about 20 minutes away. $223 with the reward zone 12% off coupon, was $209 before tax, but Uncle Sam has to get his share. The store employee said that they only received 2 of them, and I saw them go in stock late last night.

Funny thing is, he said he was carrying it around all day debating whether or not to buy it for himself. He actually had it in his hands when I saw him, and he said he would give it up to me because he wasn't sure if he needed it or not. I guess it is true that the employees will horde stuff for themselves then.

Oh, and I haven't installed it yet, but it is a Black PCB as well. ;)

well that makes me feel better because I got an 8777 at 700/1800. I know my 5000 X2 is holding me back but 8777 seems very low. your 2.13 Core 2 and my 2.6 X2 are about equal so maybe that does explain it.

Is your 5000 BE?

My Black Edition 5000+ clocked @ 3.2ghz w/ the 8800GT @ 700/975 gave me a 3DMark06 score of 10652 or something like that...

no its not. I had it slightly overclocked a while back at 2.8 but didnt leave there. I changed some control panel settings and reran 3dmark 06 again with 700/1900 and got 9251.

Muahahah got the last one at the Union City Best Buy for 232.xx

I scored a 14,711 in 3DMark06 with my Q6600 @ 3.6 and my 8800GT at 700/2000

I really like my 8800gt oc. I flashed it to the BFG 8800gt OC2 bios and it works flawless at the higher clocks. The card will run the same clock speed as the evga ssc version too, but my cpu sucks anyways and is holding the card back. Opteron 170 FTL. I can only muster up 9400 in 3dm06.

This 8800gt is fast compare to my 7900gs. Now what am I suppose to do with my 7900gs with vf900 on it? Also why cant Bioshock load when Crysis and HL2-EP2 load with no problem?

I guess the deal ended today. Thanks OP for letting everyone know about it and that 10% or 12% coupon only sweetened the deal. :)

Yeah, so they can put them on Ebay for $300 and have some suckers buy them. They're still showing in stock at my local BB, but when I was there Friday night, the shelf was empty. I know those bastadges are hiding them in the back for someselves.

Could someone explain to me the process of a buyback, or at least BB's Price Match Guarantee?

I caved in to buy the card about a week ago when it was posted, and it should arrive on Mon/Tues. The day I bought it, I actually went to BB and they had no cards in stock, and the associates couldn't help me, so they told me to order it online.

The coupon didn't work when I entered it online, so I just bought it, hoping to get the money back later. Finally, the total rang up to a little above $260 with shipping and tax to CA, but another 10-12% off would cut the price off a bit.

How would I return this for a buyback, like some users have mentioned? Would I go to customer service and request for a buyback, mentioning that their price match guarantee didn't match the coupon that I had, or what?

Thanks

shit i didnt go in today to try and use the 12% off coupon on my shipped order that hasnt been delivered to me yet... fuuuuuck

Yeah the deal is over. Sale ended so.... Not hot any longer. Im sure there will be another sale on them sometime soon though.

Both of mine are stable easily at 700/1050, stock fan speeds, didn't touch anything except the clock speeds. Black PCB, no idea if they have the new fan or not though. I might return one though because I get 9515 3dmark06 with one and only 10,212 with two. Seems 10k is about the limit with an Opteron 165/939 Mobo. So I guess it's time to upgrade to a q6600 instead of SLi.

prices changed on Saturday... I went in the store and I was furious when it rang up at $279. I had the guy check online and thought they were pulling the "local" bestbuy.com scam with a different price than if you searched outside of the store. I was going to come back with my laptop but when I got back to work I realized that the sale ended as mentioned above.

Curse you best buy.

Best Buy weekly sales start Sunday when they open and end Saturday when they close. Thats the way most retail stores do weekly sales and thats what the sales ads on Sunday are for.

Yeah, so I finally got mine early Saturday morning ~8:30AM. Black PCB. Fan is loud on startup so I think it's safe to say these are the old crappy coolers. Idle is around 58C, with rthdribl getting 86C after 10mins -- so 90C+ isn't out of question.

I'm absolutely sure I'm choking it with my Opty146...so it's just a matter of time now before I go C2D.

Its funny, because the 8600gts is selling for the same price this week that the 8800gt was 2 days ago. The average consumer may not get it but to me thats hillarious. I walked up to the shelf and saw a sign for $237.99 with no product above it. Someone hid an 8800gt with the 512mb 7300's so I snatched it up and walked over to the register... thats when the fun began. I give up on Best Buy, they should change their name to Bait n' Switch.

idk, I would be annoyed if I was you especially since you thought you found the treasure chest but this is pretty common retail procedure what can really be said about it.

I missed the date for the coupon (unless the coupon everyone was talking about is different from the rewardzone one I got) but I managed to grab one of these online during the sale. Just got it delivered, I can't wait to try it out. :)

Tax sucks though, with it and shipping it came to $260. But I can't really complain since retail for this card should be around $250, and this is an overclocked version so I expected to pay a little extra.

lucky u! all where unavailable here....

Just got mine in the mail, and one for my buddy as well. Took long enough, I originally ordered on the 17th. I've gone from 1280x768 to 1440x900 in Crysis, and also was able to turn shaders and postprocessing to high (I run all high settings now). Ran a few FRAPs runs, reporting 27 min, 34 average fps. I did overclock to 694/1066 on the memory though :)

Previous card was an 8800 GTS 320, at 594/972.

you must have had a different coupon because the one posted in this thread was for 12/11- 12/16. the sale ended on 12/15.

I picked up mine Friday night. Drove 25 miles to the closest (from my work's zip) that had them in stock according to the web site. Get there, and end up waiting 45 min for the 2 they had to be found. I'm not complaining (mostly because I got one), but still, it was a bit of a wait. Oh well, installed it, played Hellgate London w/ mostly maxed out settings, so I'm a happy camper :D

Hrm. I ordered mine on the 12th. The only coupons I had though were for in-store only though, not online. Oh well. :(

The companies know that there is going to be a rush every year before christmas to buy the latest greatest card. They also know (and sometimes we do too) that as soon as the christmas season is over, the "hot deals" are going to be the normal prices shortly after the new year and some other product is going to be out soon...
Personally, I would really prefer to get a 8800 GTS 512mb at this point. However, if the price is right, I would still get a GT. Right now, the "hot deals" make it worth the price/performance ratio to buy a GT instead of the GTS. However, early next year, when the 8800 GTS 512mb is cheaper after some other "hot deal" type card comes out, the GTS won't be that much more than the GT is right now. Some say 10 - 15 percent increase. To some that's worth the $100 or so price difference right now, but for folks like me...a 10 - 15 percent increase in performance is only worth 10-15 percent more out of my wallet :D

got this card last week for $215, used the 12% coupon and the mystery buck ($5).. so not bad.... now just gotta sell my 7900 GS so i can pay for some of the cost of the card...... but so far its running nicely and have seen some good improvements for games at my resolution (1920x1200)...

hey all i have the green board and the small fan. i will probably return this since they changed it so fast. does anybody have a picture of the new heatsink on these? how do i know i won't buy another one. mine is working fine but it gets over 90 which is WAY TOO HOT.....:)

thanks for some help here! should i call bfgtech and see if they will replace this under warranty?

what do you think?

thanks again!

BFG is NOT using the new fans and has no plans to switch. This is what they told me when I called them last week.

I don't understand why they would need to change the fan? I have black PCB's, had picked up two of them and both overclock easily stable at 700 core and 1050 memory. Played Crysis for a few hours straight with them at that clock and never had any problem with temps. I just assumed they already changed the fan but I guess not. I'm sure they will go even higher, since this was just my starting point but I have not tried yet.

Very happy with the BFG regardless if it's new fan or not.

well unless you have been in a cave you would know that these things run very hot. the fan doesnt even spin up to cool the card down. the old fan is horribly annoying above 80% but the new fan is almost silent at 100%. in other words you can keep the card nice and cool with the new cooler without any aggravating noise.

Well if it ain't broke don't fix it is what I always say. 700/1050 all day long with no problems, cards seem to be cool and quiet. No complaints from me, guess some folks are just harder to please than others :p

well of course its quiet because the fan isnt really doing anything. you probably havent even looked at your temps have you? the heat was a big enough issue the EVGA and some other card makers changed their bios to make the fan kick in instead of letting it get so hot. then XFX came out with the new cooler on some of their models thats now the reference one for most card makers. I know all the new EVGA cards come with the better cooler. heck the heat with these cards is such an issue that theres even an article on heatsinks for the 8800gt right here on Hardocp. ;)

I bought this card online at BB a week ago w/ the sale price and just recently got it.

If I have a 10% off coupon, will BB allow a rebuy with the original price on the receipt w/ the 10% off coupon? Or will they use the new price of the card at $279?

You got me curious so I Just ran through a level on Crysis for about 15 minutes, with Core 715mhz Shader 1791MHz and Memory 1050/2100Mhz Recorded temps with Rivatuner highest temp was 84c (Around 7 minutes in) majority of the time was between 72-78c while playing and idle is 63c. Not sure how that fares against other cards but I believe Nvidia says the core is good for up to 100c so this seems perfectly fine to me.

Edit: This is with the stock fan settings.

my idle is 65 and it gets to 95-98 after 10 minutes in crisis. this is with a p180 with a fan in the front, etc. i am worried about it. i will probably just return it and get a 8800gts 512 which has the bigger fan.

and i will mention this is the last time i purchase bfg if they will not help me with this card but i will give them a chance!

thanks for the info!

First off.....Why care about the temps? Whats the worst thing that could happen? The card dies and they send you another for free?

Second. All the cards have the same heatsinks/fans so.... Its not just BFG. Thats pretty moronic to dismiss BFG because they use the same heatsink/fan design all the other cards use lol. Its NVIDIA, not BFG. Go buy the more expensive GTS then....

In case you havnt been around, almost all cards in history have had very low efficiency / cheap heatsink/fan designs. This is the main reason why most people get a custom heatsink/fan for their video cards. You could say the same thing about the 7900gt's, 7800gt's, 6800gt's were pretty bad, 6800 ultra's wernt much better, etc etc, and so on down the line. All those heatsinks sucked, why would you think the 8800gt would be different.

point taken. i just wish i could have the cooler of the 8800gtx installed on my card. bfg is being very helpful wanting to rma the card, but i haven't had any problems with it, just afraid i will with the high temps i am having.

and it seems i am having higher temps than anybody on the internet.....as usual.

the card is just sitting here right now waiting for my motherboard choice which will take awhile, i have the q6700 and dg33tl, and these parts deserve a better motherboard.

thanks for your input, it has me thinking!

no all the cards DONT use the SAME cooler. perhaps you missed the point about there being a new more efficient cooler but BFG is not using it. EVGA, Leadtek, XFX and many others have switched so yes he does a reason to be a little miffed at BFG.

edit: BFG has a new bios that makes the fan actually do something besides sit there. http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr88512gtoce.aspx just click support.

Update the thermal sensor fan control to reduce the operating temperature of the GPU. This is recommended only for users with thermal-related concerns and an older BIOS version.

Dude, no you dont. Go to the video card section and around other forums man. The stock cooler on the 8800GT's have temps around the 95C level @ load. That is common, it is not unusual.......If you also read people talking about their temps, they will also tell you the card performs fine and there arnt any problems. If it was a serious problem, they wouldnt have released the cards like that.

Perhaps they do see a slight issue with the first reference design, which is why they "apparently" have been putting updated coolers on some now. However, if you actually check the review out of the new cooler compared to the last, its only a few degrees better and a little less noisy so..... Its not even that much better.
