My pictures of the Cooler Master 690 (the new $50 uber-case!)

I just got this case the other day...i'm somewhat new to installing hardware..and im having trouble mounting my hard drive with the fan in the slots.... any ideas on how to get the hard drive in WITH the HDD fan cooler? the bracket doesnt seem to allow me to have both in there at the same time.
im using the Vantec 3.5" Aluminum Hard Drive Cooler (link below)

I'd skip the HDD cooler. The large 120mm fan should be plenty for any HDD less than a 15k SCSI disc.
Do you have the under-mobo fan setup as intake or exhaust?
Exhaust, so it pulls air from all over inside the case across the bottom of the mobo. I think it'd be more noisy as an intake.

Great case. Had some noise issues with the side panel fan. I replaced it with a 120mm Nexus and now it's pretty quiet. I also tried putting in a 80x15mm fan, but it made too much noise.
Now I'm waiting for the windowed side panel to become available.

It seems that CM has a side panel case for it . I want it !!!!!!!!!!

I want to see real pictures of it, b/c all of the ones from CM look like terrible hack jobs.

Ah, I hadn't caught the update on that one. Looks much better than I thought. Still, I do'nt think I could lose the opening right above my GeminII, for fresh air. I need all the help with heat I can get.

My friends (loser doesnt have an account yet) 690.

I liked this case so much that next year I may get rid of my 534s.

Nice man!
I was just gonna ask if someone has painted the inside of a 690, cuz no one has posted one :)
Looks AWESOME!!

Beautiful work jon! :) I am planning to paint the inside of mine black as well. Any advice you have regarding painting this case?

So which vents do you guys have as intakes? I spent waaay too much time figuring out which vents to use as what on my last case hoping you guys can give me the heads up

Yeah, I was wondering about the fan setup too....... I'll be building on thursday and I was thinking the stock front and side panel intakes, plus the one on the floor as an intake, then leaving the upper side panel slot right above the processor blank and putting exhausts on the back and the two top slots..... any other suggestions? Main thing I'm worried about is the 8800 GT getting enough cool air in this position, may do a PCI slot fan. Any one else have an opinion?

I finally got my 690 and set everything up this past weekend...My digicam got stolen out of my Jeep so can't do any pics.

I had enough fans in my collection to fill every slot in the 690...noise is not concern for me so I said what they hell. Only slot I did not put a fan in is the bottom (near the PSU) cause my PSU is too big and the unused cables had to be placed on the bottom.

I ended up with:

-Front 140mm - INTAKE
-Top - 1 140mm EXHAUST and 1 120mm EXHAUST
-Back 120mm - EXHAUST
-Side Panel - 2 120mm INTAKES
-1 80x15mm exhaust on the other side.
-I also mounted another 120mm intake in the 5 1/4 bay section.

My overall temps are much better than they have ever been.....the 8800gtx saw the most improovement...easily 15deg less at load.

Most of my fans are pretty quiet so honestly even with all the fans the case is overall pretty quiet...the loudest part is still the GTX itself.

Very nice case...easy to setup and although I did not do as nice a job as some...I was able to have a pretty clean cable manegment. My PSU cables are not very long so I could not route as many behind as others have.

I've read some comments that the Corsair 620 has cables that might be "short" for bottom mounting the psu in a case. I'm seeing Corsairs in these builds...but just wondering if anyone ran into this problem with a 690

Nope; had a 620 in mine, a Thermaltake 500, and now a PCP&C 850. The 4/8 - pin routes nicely through the slot/hole and behind the MB tray, to the plug.

One on the floor in theory is good but dust in the case is bad

I wish i could have better cable management in mine. I tried for hours, but the 120mm fan cables aren't long enough to hide so they stick out. I guess its more than good enough for airflow though, just not too pretty

Received mine a few days ago and I love it. Very easy to work in and the contruction is nice considering the price.

Mccaula718: Perhaps you could purchase the extension cables? SVC has them for $.50-1.00. They should have regular and UV colored.

I am a HUGE fan of this case, the cable routing behind the motherboard tray was a stroke of genius. Here's mine:

And with cables routed behind the mobo tray:

Just ordered mine! Now to finish picking out what to fill it with... Now is the time to buy - $35 after MIR at newegg with free shipping!

Question: How many 120mm fans does the case come with? 3?

Yep, 3 120mm fans -
one clear with blue LED as front intake.
Rear Exhaust and
Side panel intake (this one seems bit louder than the others)

Really nice case, finally got new install in yesterday (after having case and PSU for about 2 months), no dramas all good and well managed.

Not sure if need the extra PCI molex power going into Mobo, the GTX (card is a beast coming from a 6600gt!!) has 2 dedicated already, surely thats enough juice ?

and yea, sheathed the s-flexs, that was a pain in the butt - for the price they really could have done that for at manufacturing.

One thing you should do is wrap those Scythe fan wires. Then even if they can't be tucked, at least they don't look like ass.

Those damn things are the reason why I'm not going to buy Scythe fans again if the ones I have now ever die.

And you can buy cheap 3-pin extender cables to help route them better.

I just bought this case :D ill get it delivered next week. Im moving up from a Tsunami Dream case. I hate that case so much. Its so dang loud, side panel fan broken, weak, and thumb crews to close the case wore out. Cant wait to get it this one, I am gonna get my 780i upgrade from evga, and the q6600. Also I might need a new PSU, I have an anter trio 550. But im just running a 7950gt so im not too sure yet. Ill upgrade when the next gen nvidia come out.

Here is my girlfriend's rig.

Is your girlfriend in the continental US? If so where did she get the side panel?

seconded on the side panel where'd ya get it.

I saw that your location is in the UK but did you buy it seperatly ?

Mine should be here Thursday! I will get pics up when I get everything installed

anybody know the cheapest place to get a 80mmx15mm fan to fit on the right side? most places i look are like at least $10 shipped which is too much for a small fan like that.

Probably the only place you will find it much cheaper is as a freebie on the forums where you just pay shipping. Shipping is where most online stores get you and minimum shipping prices are usually around $5

I would post a WTB thread in the fs section if I was you

hey fellow 690 owners.

Is your HDD LED a very small red light under the blue power LED. It is very hard to notice, and I thought it wasn't working at first.

At a closer look, I see a very small red LED that blinks.

Very small HDD activity LED

Yep, I don't plug in my Power LED cause of it. The blue LED's in the fan shine throu the power LED enough anyway.
