Hi everyone. First off, thanks for the help in advance.

Anyway, I have a HP desktop with a P4 HT 2.4 ghz. Everything was fine for the last couple of years i have had it. I have not done any upgrades lately.

After a normal night of usage, I shut it down and everything was normal. The next morning i power on, and nothing gets sent to my monitor. Both on light, and hdd light are illuminated. Fans turn on.

I unplug, and restart several times. Sometimes the manufacture logo comes on, but freezes like that. I noticed that if I leave it alone for a hour, it starts up eventually. Functions normal... until it goes to sleep. When i wake it up, it takes about 5 minutes... something that usually takes 5 seconds. When it is up, it functions normally. I lose about an hour of time on my clock every time it turns off.

After i turn it off, it starts all over again.

What do you think is wrong?

I'm hoping its something simple like the battery going dead, but i havent got any messages.

what do you think?

Thanks

Given the system clock symptom, the battery would be the first thing I'd try. Start with the simple explanations and work your way to the more complex.

I've never heard of a dead battery causing the lack of video on a cold boot but then again I've only had a mobo long enough to experience a dead battery once and that was a long time ago. I usually replace/upgrade my mobo every year or 2.

My buddie's HP had these symptoms. I replaced the PS and that seemed to fix it.....so far.

Good Luck!
