Ive been curious how many of you did this. I was going to, but I just don't have the heart to sell the 320m i got like 2 months ago at most for a loss of cash, just to get a card that prob wont be that much better for my needs. I play hl2 series, tf2, portal, bf, etc. rig in sig, i dont oc the card because its a htpc and dont need a lot of heat. but i have no issues, i run hl2 maxed 1440/900 16/16. why did you upgrade?

I have a 8800 gts 640mb right now, it plays mostly all games on max settings, I'm waiting to upgrade when the g92 gtx's come out. I think that will definitely be a worthy upgrade.

i'm hoping to use the evga step up progarm to get the new G92 GTS supposed being launched on December 3rd. my eligibility ends about a week later though, so if the card doesn't get released on time i will probably step up to the GT. i should get a little performance bump at practically zero cost...but it will be a bit of a gamble considering how well my current card has overclocked. time will tell.

I stepped up from the 8800 GTS 640 to the GT a couple of days ago only because the stepup was about to expire.

For $20 (shipping costs to and from) and a bit of an overclock, it will result in nearly having upgraded to a GTX......not too bad.....

sold my 8800gts 320mb for my 8800gt. I wanted onboard h264 decoding more than anything, the gts played games fine, but I watch a lot of high def movies on my PC and I wanted better hardware support for it.

With a 320MB GTS you would definitely benefit from an upgrade. Since you are forced to play lower resolutions with the memory limit on that card, you would benefit by either running at faster speed at those resolutions or the same speed at higher resolution with the 512MB GT.

As for GTS 640, not worth the upgrade. I'm glad the GT came out if only because people are offloading their GTS 640 at around $200; I'm going SLI until a new single card comes out that (a) has new features and (b) is faster than 2 GTS. Honestly not sure the 98XX series will fit the bill since DX 10.1 is virtually meaningless and Crysis has set the bar for at least a year.

Step-Up'ed my 8800GTS 320mb for a 8800GT that should arrive this coming Thursday.

I'm waiting for the 128SP 8800GTS to step up to, and then it's decision time whether it's worth it to be stuck with a half dead artifacting X1900XT for a week for a few extra frames.
I wish EVGA did cross shipping for step up.

Naw. Not me.

There was no real reason to... Not worth the need for a new waterblock IMO...

I don't bother to upgrade unless the future generation is at least 40% better than my current card.

I bought a 8800GT for a new build but I havent sold my GTS 640 in my main game rig. I see no reason to sell a GTS 640 for a GT. If I wasnt building another rig I wouldnt have bought a GT at all. I personally dont feel a GT is worth buying to replace a GTS 640. I'll wait till a whole new card generation comes out before replacing my GTS 640. But thats just me. :)

/me raises hand

I sold my EVGA 8800GTS 640MB right here on the [H] FS/FT forums but not before securing an EVGA 8800GT first from Frys.com.

and thanks to the link that was just posted to the Dell website, I purchased a second XFX 8800GT from Dell for $234.

Going SLi with XFX and EVGA!

The Dell deal was tempting, but fucking tax...plus I would want SLI if I went with the GT, but there is no dual-slot cooled GT and who knows when it will come out.

Meanwhile I've played through half of Crysis on my GTS 640 and it's been an awesome experience.

Can't wait to replay with some AA and my native res (19x2) assuming the new GTS revision doesn't disappoint. ;)

When you do a step up do you have to send your card first? are you computerless for awhile?

You do send your card first and your are computer less if you don't have another card to use in the mean time.

I actually sold 2x evga 8800gts 640 (not run in sli unfortunately) for 2 bfg 8800gt's at about break even price.

I sold one of the bfg's last week and await for a deal on a semi-decent cheapie card (maybe even an old 640 gts); I needed the money and the computer it powered is still s939 w/ 1280x1024 monitor... but now with an e6600 to spare, I dunno!

I don't have a gts, but I am seriously considering selling my gtx for dual gt's. Combine em with evga's 3 month step up and I don't see how I could go wrong. :D

I managed to sell my single GTS 640mb for like around $350, so I decided to go with 8800GT's in sli. I've been loving that combo since.

I sold my GTS 640 right before the GT's came out.

To pay rent :(

Now I'm stuck with a frickin 7200gs......

Consider the tax the shipping cost then. It's free shipping. I paid $220.99 total.

I sold my 8800GTS 640MB for $350 a few weeks before the 8800GT launch. I planned on purchasing a $200-$250 card but saw the prices soar. I held out for a few weeks and then said screw it, jumped on an Evga 8800GTX from dell for about $400 after numerous discounts (compaired to the $300-$350 for a GT).

Im covered by step up until Febuary so hopefully Nvidia has something nice out by then, step up was the only reason I finaly bought a GTX. Im a 2560x1600 and am getting almost triple the performance I got with my GTS so Im very pleased as it is:cool:

Well I wanted to add a TV capture card to my computer but had no free pci slot left (my Ultra was in the way of the last one left...) so I decided to give those famous GTs a shot and so far I am pleasantly surprised, enough so that the Ultra will be going on Ebay real soon.

Dont get me wrong though, the Ultra is an awsome card the best I have ever owned thus far but those little GTs are real runners.Anyway if Nvidia comes up with a new high end card in the next couple of months, I have an EVGA GTS in my other computer that is eligible for the step up program till next February so I should be allright. :)

The 8800GTs run way hot, and they're louder

happy with my 320mb 8800GTS until next year when the ultra killers come out. wish they would hurry up :)

I am sticking with my GTS. I don't have any reason to upgrade. I guess maybe if I really wanted to push Crysis, but the demo really bored me so I don't plan on picking it up. Everything else I pretty much run maxed out now.

I agree 100%......Love my GTS 640, the benchmarks have not been that impressive. Since my GTS 640 is oc past GTX speeds and it runs supercool never breaks 50C after a few hours of gaming. I game a 1920x1200 and have no problems.

Sold my 8800GTS 320mb on ebay for $195 and picked up a BFG 8800GT OC at Best Buy for $249.99

I did. I had been wanting to upgrade for a while but the next thing up would have been a GTX which was/is ridiculous in price. For a couple days I was using some crappy 7 series.

I have an 8800GTS 320 MB, and I'm currently waiting on the BFG 8800GT deal from best buy.com to come in stock. The reason I did it is because I'm selling the GTS to my roomie for 180, and since I work part time at BBY my cost on the GT will be like 223. So $40 for the upgrade is worth it, even if it's not a revolution in performance terms. My only concern right now is the cooling on the card, I'm hoping the airflow through my Antec 900 case will be sufficient for now.

I still have my GTS 640. The 8800GT is a killer card and a great buy, but not for someone that already has a GTS 640/GTX and doesn't need a single slot. If you needed the extra PCI slot, though, or wanted to go SLI, the GT would definitely be your choice.

Actually in my opinion SLI would exacerbate the card's already mediocre cooling solution; you'd need to shell out $70 in after market cooling.

Of course the companies that no one's really heard of and showed pretty screenshots of passively cooled or dual slot cooled GTs haven't released a single one...yet.

I have a 320 meg eVGA OC and to step up it would be ~$35. Step up ends tomorrow and I'm unsure if I want to do it.
