I'm thinking about purchasing a new motherboard. What do you guys think about this one?

Asus P5N-E SLI

I'm really just looking to get a lot more performance out of my current E6400. More so than my current board will provide (I can't even overclock it past 2.3 without BSODs with my MSI pos). Maybe bring it up to around 3.0Ghz on air or eventually get water to bring it higher. I have 1 8800GT and may upgrade to SLI in the future. This is probably my 5th or 6th build, so I'm a bit past the novice-intermediate level.

The MSI P6N SLi clocks farily good if you are fairly good at OC'ing, mine got into the top spot in the OC data base (E4300) a while back. The board was only like $110 at the time.

If you don't need SLI (& few really do) then P35 is better.
I have a P5N-E SLI & I wouldn't really recommend it - go check the Asus forums to see why rather than just taking my word.

I have the Gigabyte 650i board mentioned above, and don't get me wrong its great, but its a couple of generations too old. And unless you absolutely "NEED" SLi there are other, better options out there. If you are willing to be patient even the 680i prices should drop in the upcoming months.

I've heard to many bad things about the 680i chipset. But what specific boards would you guys recommend? Either with or without SLI, but again staying in the $125 price range.

I own this board and its the buggiest POS mobo I have ever owned. To think I sold my 965 DS3 for this is painful. I think ALL nvidia 775 chipsets are garbage compared to their Intel counterpart.

I went from fully stable to constant crashes. They were both GB mobo's, same hardware attached, running stock. the 650iDS4 is a red-headed step-child that should be beaten.

Seriously, the 650i chipset is dead IMO. Stay away from that DS4!!!

abit IP35 is under $100 after rebate at mwave & IP35 Pro is $153 after rebate. If you don't neeed RAID & firewire then the IP35-E is ~$70.
Gigabyte's P-35-DS3P/DS4 also are good mobos but I'm less keen on their cheaper versions.

Then its a match made in heaven! :p
Seriously stay away, or your step-dad and i will both beat you.
