Mass Effect Reviewed

video review: http://www.gametrailers.com/game/2211.html

Both reviews pretty much say the same thing though. An, amazingly ambitious game that was pulled off with great success. The only issues with the game seem to be performance related. As long as you can live with some jitters and hitching you apparently should buy this game right now.

Gamespy (or was it IGN?) seemed to say it was more serious than that - characters getting stuck, buttons not responding to input, and so on. They weren't game breakers (anyone remember how bad KotOR games were about bugs?) but they were troublesome.

Summary of IGN's review for those of us at work?

Great game. 9.4. Some issues and bugs (frame rate, so bad AI) but overall can be overlooked since there is so much that is right with the game.

Picking it up tomorrow.

Plus Gamefly will have delivered both Assassins Creed and Uncharted by then as well. Good god.

I want this so bad. Im pissed the wife and I are driving up to VA to my parents for turkey day, and I will only get about 1 night to play this game!

Beat the game yesterday (21 hr play time), and it was one of the more enjoyable games I have ever played. I had the graphical glitches happen (stuff loads in at a super low texture res for 2-3 seconds), but I never got stuck or had a non-responding controller. I also think calling the AI bad is a stretch, more like average. My biggest complaint would be the total lack of tutorial, I found myself having to figure out how everything worked. Beyond that, the game is fucking awesome.

Yep, I got my copy tomorrow. Ordered the LE edition from Gamestop.com with overnight. Should be a blast!!!

Side note, I also get Unreal 3 in that order too tomorrow.

My only problem was how there wasn't a tutorial but other than that I'm loving it (6 hours in and I've done like one main story mission) there are tons of things to do and I feel like the higher you go up in level the more fun you'll have because of the skills you unlock.

they give scores based on advertising, nuf said. and are known to ninja-edit "unpolitic" reviews to please their corporate masters (News Corp.).

I know the story (editing about framerate) but that's so much bullshit. IGN were one of the few to give Assassin's creed the lowest reviews giving it a 7.5 and 7.7 while everyone else has been giving it a h-job.

everyone else giving lower scores pretty much never heard of

That's pretty low amount of gameplay time for an RPG. I just bought The Witcher for PC and on the box it promises me at least 80hrs of game play time. I take my time with RPG's and like to do a lot of exploration and side quests so will probably get more than 80hrs out of it. I'm still playing Oblivion on the PC for almost a year now but that is just playing off and on occasionally. Still, with all the mods I can get for Oblivion I might be able to keep it going until the day i die. :)

The developers have said you can beat it in about that much time if you just go straight through the game, without doing all the side-quests, exploring, etc. If you take your time, do side quests, and so on, it takes MUCH longer to finish.

Wow this game looks friggen awesome! I had followed it earlier in it's production, but kind of forgot it. I just ordered a copy of Crysis and Assassin’s Creed...kind of regretting getting those first! So many awesome games out now my head feels like it's going to explode!!! I guess The Witcher and Mass Effect will be my next purchases!

Wow I can't believe how quiet this thread is, I guess everyone's too concentrated on playing it now to bother to post.

I picked up the game and I like it a lot so far. The story and dialogue system is engaging and the combat is fine, I can see this taking up a lot of my free time.

Yeah, they really weren't kidding when they said how realistic the conversation system is, there were some subtle facial expressions that really drove home the impression the character tried to make.

got the game today and im really impressed with the grpx and story line.. btw, do you know how to make alot of $$? I only have above $4k right now and all the good stuff that i want to buy it is around $10k-$80k.

I was too cheap to pay retail so I'm waiting for my copy to come. :(

Way too many good games out for me to be paying full price.

Did anyone else knock out that crazy scientist, who was holed up in the shed, at the beginning. :D Even when you finish the conversation, the guy stays passed out on the floor.

Great game

This game is definitely one of the good ones.

I've only managed to play for around two hours so far, but everything in the game flows so well, I love it.

I'm not posting about it yet because I didn't buy it yet. Just bought The Witcher a few days ago so need to get some time in that before I get ME. Besides, just bought a DSLR too so want to pay off my CC before I make anymore purchases.

The little quirk about not being able to move the vehichle-mounted turret up and down just makes me think "Nintendo-era programming." Not being able to shoot an enemy because your all-terain vehichle is not at a perfectly angled slope makes the game production seem a bit unprofessional.

Don't get me wrong, though. This is one quirk and although there are likely more, this game still has redeeming qualities.

I been playing the game for around 7 hours now and so far I been enjoying it very much. The story really makes you want to play more and the action is top notch. IMO it lived up to the hype surrending the game.

I went on a two-day-straight Mass Effect binge and saw most of the game. Believe me when I say that it's the role-playing game of the year, hands-down, no question. And I've played the awesome new crop of tactical RPGs on the PSP, too.

It also looks to have a fair bit of replay value.

Wow! Amazing Graphics first off. The storyline is really good so far, and like everyone said, excellent voice/animation acting. At the beginning of the game the combat was alright, but when my team started getting some awesome mass effect abilities, I had enemies floating in the air, being forced pushed, reviving friends, and now the combat has gotten up to awesome.

I have been focusing on side missions, which have surprising depth. I went with a soldier, heavy assault rifles, for group members I have utilized Urdnot Wrex and Tali'Zorah nar Rayya. My party is at level 14.

Here is a crappy pic of some fairy nice pink Krogan armor.
