Phenom 3ghz stock Q2 2008

I really, really, really, really, really want to believe AMD this time.

If you're a gambler, you can start holding your breath on June 30th. :p

lol

too true. maybe 29th june and they will announce to the world that their ahead of schedule

Yeah whatever. I'm upgrading well before Q2. If I was gonna go AMD they had to get it right now not in 6 months.

Eh, this isn't good to hear. I was really hoping the get a phenom, but it just doesn't seem worth it until they get around 3ghz.

I'll probably just suck it up for a 5000+ BE and O/C it to hell on a new AM2+ board.

Back to my roots, O/Cing the budget chips with the inferior AMD technology. :p I miss my sweet JIUHB's and mobile Bartons.

Its too bad because I think Intel will be far beyond 3g at that point in time

Not just that, but they'll be producing on the 45nm process which (in addition to penryn itself having a better IPC compared to Phenom) will allow for lower TDPs and lower costs to manufacture. In other words, they have a superior product both in terms of power consumption and performance, and are able to (if need be) sell the processor for less because of the process. I don't see any significant advantage on AMD's side. Anybody see something I don't?

AMD needs a 3ghz quad NOW. Not in Q208.

Agreed, considering it would only be the equal of a Q9450, which I assume by Q2 08 will be the slowest C2Q, or even phased out by faster models. Hey, we are talking 6 months from now... which is an eternity in PC tech. Intel could easily introduce 2 or 3 speed bumps in that timeframe if they wanted.

Sadly, a 3GHz Phenom in Q2 08 won't be doing much to change the status quo. It'll still be a case of AMD's fastest quad competing against Intel's slowest quad...

I had a feeling this forum would turn into a ghost town soon after the launch of the Phenom. The name is short for phenominal correct ?

But what,if anything is phenominal about the chip ? If you (AMD fans) were asked this
by a custumer in a store ( say you were selling pc parts ) Just humor me here... :D

What would you say.... ?

No matter what I am in for one and that Asus 790FX mobo.I'm just waiting on that 'Black Edition' to show up.I'll have the mobo by mid next week hopefully.

Well, for fun you could say it's a NATIVE quad core, and Intel's are IMMIGRANTS :D but then you'll probably get weird looks from customers...

Good one harpoon ! LOL ! :D Given that logic, maybe I should go all AMD,as I have a touch of mic mac in me,going back a few generations.

Yeah I think so too and in Q3 the Q9550 will be the mainstream part like Q6600 now.

Likely, very likely, and is not Intel going to again cut Core2 prices in Jan 08 anyway ?
Wonder what that will do to ASP's on Phenom ?

Anand hinted at big price cuts in Q108 on Phenom...hope he's right.

kinda OT: I am very saddened..... and actually shocked at how bad Phenom scales, clock wise.Even I secretly hoped that it wouldnt be this bad.How many of you are privately shocked at this turn of events ? All those wacky slow, and out of kilter benches on XS.org,by the big wig fancy overclockers, turned out to be true.

Bios,Smiosh...the chip just doesnt have the chutzpah,at least according to the early looks at XS,and now with Kyle and Anad chiming in with real hard numbers. Why arent the bioses that are out now,'tuned' at launch ? And why o so many AM2 boards not properly support Phenom as AMD said they would ? OEM.Mobo relations seem strained nad certainly out of whack.

The more I think about it all,the more sloppy and unprofessional it all seems, even for AMD. :(

This news will only give the same old people carte blanche to whine for a few more months. I'd rather do something more constructive than a) read it or b) contribute to it. But that's just me.

you're so dramatic. even after the launch of AM2 and conroe shortly thereafter, both forums had roughly equal number of viewers. that was back before anyone really had any idea what was coming up next, and it wasn't being talked about.

now, it is after the launch of phenom, and i see 44 vs 23. hardly the ghost town imo :p

Certainly. Right now it's AMD Processors forum: 33, Intel Processors forum: 20. It's also the Thanksgiving Holiday, and most are busy in transit. Perhaps they even have better things to do with their time. But let's not let logic get in the way. We have an agenda to meet.

cause everyone knows that the intel users go traveling while the amd users sit at home and kill time by plotting world domination :p

Yeah, honestly, keeping a fair budget in mind this seems like the best way to go. Not only do you get a solid platform for future upgradability, but you can have a hell of a lot of fun overclocking the 5000+ B/E. I'm 95% going this route myself.
