Aside from the terrible sound and somewhat substandard graphics, the gameplay is horrid. You don't need to have realism for the gunplay to be satisfying, as shown by UT, TF2, and bunch of other games. But in this your gun feels like a pea shooter, with the added bonus of getting the sound of passing wind and trumpets blasted into your ear drums (mind you, the music volume CANNOT be adjusted) and some bright red splashes appearing on screen. It is a bit like a roller coaster ride, except that it moves as fast as the speed of smell and you get to shoot cardboard cut outs of stereotypical arabs and Russians that dramatically roll over when shot. I don't know why this game gets such great reviews, but unless this gets better after the first USMC mission, HL2 EP2 and Crysis shit all over this game.

You are the #1 threat to peoples' entitlement to having an opinion. Don't ruin it for others.

I agree about not being able to disable the in game music...they should have included that option. I would much rather not have to listen to music as i'm playing through the game. but i completely disagree with the rest of your post...COD4 is a great game. have you tried the MP yet? i'm really enjoying the MP right now.

I must ask, have you beaten the game fully or experience all there was from the game? I to get upset about a game near the beginning, but I then sit back and get through the beginning and get to where a game really opens up to what it is suppose to be.

This post made me LOL. Naming those sh*t-arse games (my opinion) as better than CoD4 is ridiculous.

Guess it's a difference of opinion between the run and gun games you listed and more strategic games like CoD4.

Based on the demo level, there is no way Crysis can be considered a run and gun game, at least on the Delta difficulty. You won't even last 30 seconds if you try to rambo a security check point.

You have to use the suit ability and choose the most suitable option. It is a strategic game like CoD4.

i haven't played cod4 except the multiplayer beta, but based off that, and reviews i've seen i'd agree with the op. I plan on playing the game through to see if it's fun but i've never liked any of the games in the cod series for the same reasons op stated.

I have this game and its the bomb to me. I usually get really good scores and have had a ton of fun in the single player also. I really like the ranking system. Gives me motivation to play even more in multiplayer. I also like customizing my weapon options and adding steadiness and all that. It really makes the game more fun :). It makes everyone practically different which i like. Its a really good game overall i think.

now GRAW was a game that sucked, but only after playing COD4

This is a great thread!

Gun sounds are terrible. Graphics are pretty good, but its mostly lighting effects around characters and objects, while the textures are substandard. This is COD2 with different textures. Good old "hallways" that force you in a very specific direction, not much variance as you play.

The Multiplayer is arena based and is basically deathmatch with rotating spawn points. I enjoyed it for a matter of minutes then uninstalled the game. Its a grenade fest for sure.

The graphics are good, but Crysis and other upcoming games just outclass it. CoD4 is meant for those that can't get enough of the Call of Duty type gameplay. I honestly had COD2 on my PC for about 1.5 years, and I still hadn't beaten it.

This game is for some people, but I prefer sandbox style games with variance and immersion. I enjoyed the COD4 demo, even played it a few times. Then I played the Crysis demo... and COD4 just seemed dated and dull from then on. I do see how some people would like it though, its just not for me.

I can't select 1920x1080 rez without the game crashing.

WTF, I can't get past the options screen, let alone play this damn game.

I've read about this issue, think it was installing the newest directx and rebooting or closing xfire that fixed this.

Compared to COD4 on Vetran, Crysis on Delta (at least the demo) could be passed by preschoolers. It's such a ridiculously easy game. I passed Delta without being shot once and just killing everybody with tranqs and my pistol. It is the first mission of the full game however, but the Korean AI is pretty poor and they are pretty outclassed by your cloak abilities. The aliens or bosses should make Crysis a tougher game ultimately but right now Delta is a joke.

The singleplayer was an excellent cinematic experience as always with the CoD brand, this doesn't always equate to exact realism, but it does give you some really fantastic gaming moments.

How anyone can dislike the SAS missions is beyond me, they were some of the most tactical and well laid out singleplayer experiences I've ever had. Sure most of it's scripted and you'll know that the instant you play it again start to finish but it offers and experience unlike any other. The closest thing to the SAS missions I've ever played is SWAT4 at our small LAN parties where we do all the missions professionally, flashing rooms, using comms and in some cases stealth/discression, it's not exactly the same kind of gameplay but the same level of professionalism exists.

So let me get this straight. You're complaining about the game having "terrible sound," yet you have $30 Sennheiser HD485 headphones listed in your sig. Give me a break. Play the game on a real sound system or even with some decent headphones, then get back to me. Until then, the rest of your post/opinion is tainted and moot.

I love it when people cite "hallways" as some sort of negative point. It's only bad if executed poorly. I'd say the whole open-ended gameplay thing has had its time in the limelight, and should give up and die about now, since it's as interesting as a bread sandwich. It's a gimmick, and i'd much rather play a short, cinematic and engaging game than one that promises infinite replayability, variety and open-ended play, and instead allows you to choose the order in which you complete your objectives.

Stop buying this "do what you want, free-roaming" stuff. You're being a fed a big bucket of shit. It's just as confined, but you get to blow up the water tower before storming the bunker, or whatever. EXCEPT NEXT TIME, IT'S THE BUNKER FIRST. HOLY SHIT.

Plus how many "hallway" games let you shoot the guy through the wall? I love it.

Thanks, I installed the latest when I installed the Demo..I'll try it w/out xfire, thanks man.

OP = DUMB ASS...!!!! :eek:

COD4 SP is good, but MP is where the shit hits the fan (in a GOOD way...).
It's been a while since I played a game that actually pulled me in more and more as I played it on-line... It's mostly "run and gun" but the added ranks and weapons you can unlock and modify is SO MUCH FUN.........

I think my COD2 icon is gonna start collecting "binary dust" .... :)

I see irony here.

Tell you what does "suck" about CoD4 - the USMC voiceover thing in MP. That spastic cannot pronounce the letter 'n'.

"ENEMY UAV AIRBORE!"
"OUR UAV IS AIRBORE!"
"ENEMY HELICOPTER INBOU!"
"FRIENDLY CHOPPER INBOU!"

WHAT A FUCKING MONGOLOID

Frosteh wins.

The bulk of the USMC missions are what brought this game down in my eyes. The tired whack-a-mole gameplay design needs to go away.

Strangely enough, the worst mission in the entire game was the SAS one where you had to retreat out of the village. Where you had to fight off an army of 200 - half of which were equipped with RPG's. =/ Good god I almost threw my monitor out the window.

I cheap-assed my way out of that mission. :D

Best way to do it is flank right - there's a rundown stream/pathway running parallel to the field where the baddies are shooting at your guys, take it instead. You'll have cover from the foliage on your left and will encounter about 10 baddies on the way (no problem for the SAW).

Flash a couple times before leaving, keep peeling right as you leave the path and head into the open. Then, simply sprint from house to house, avoid/shoot the baddies, and don't stay in one location for too long - did this on Hardened and arrived at the LZ with 1:25 to spare. :p

Yeah, I knew about the side ditches. I was on Hard too.

I think I ended up taking the left side though, and worked my way up to that shed. Basically what I learned to do was to just spam the strafing runs in order to gain ground, which was entirely unfun.

Playing the game on Hard makes the majority of the game more fun, but it makes the more challenging parts of the games absolutely annoying.

CoD 5 needs to be based entirely around the more balanced SAS missions with a healthy dose of sniper, and you got a 10/10 game. ROR!

I have to agree the ingame music is a bunch of crap, and no way to turn it off is double crap.
Dogs are WAY stupid, and does everyone in russia have 3 or 4 attack dogs?

The unlocks make no since in multi player... I have an m16 with red dot no scope options, and on my m4 I can only put a scope... ???? and you can't have red dot and 203? WTF not ???

ok one goes on top the other on bottom....oh now I see.....HUH

overall it was designed by someone in the console ward
we are different and we can prove it.

are there any big maps in this game or all of them quake fest?

What are you talking about? Did you mean to say "it was designed by someone in the "we know how to keep guns from being ridiculous, instead balancing weapons so no one person becomes overpowered"?

Seems just right to me. The UGL is great, if only because all of the class one perks are complete crap.
