I have a bit of a problem. I am running an Exchange 2003 Server SP2 at home for testing purposes. My ISP is Verizon FiOS and I have a dynamic IP. I am not able to send email to people with .aol or .aim email address. I believe the reason is because I don't have a PTR record with my ISP because I can't get one if I don't pay for Business class Fios and get a static IP.

To get this to work, I probably need to Relay my outbound emails through Verizon, but I don't think they allow that.

Any suggestions?

BTW: I used to have RoardRunner as an ISP and used to relay via their smtp server and all worked well.

Funny thing about AOL email services. It doesn't seem to matter where you are emailing from, it's a hit or miss thing with them. I am constantly having to get on the phone with their tech staff to tell them to allow emails from my mail servers. It seems about once a month they get a stick up their ass and either blacklist the entire .rr.com network for a couple days, or just an entire IP range.

I tell people with AOL accounts to stop supporting that shit company and go with someone who knows how to properly block spam mail.

As for a real solution, relaying off of another account would be great. If I were you, I'd just register the domain with some provider and use their email service as a relay, then if you have issues their tech support people will have to deal with it. Go with prohosting, godaddy, google, anyone really, as they almost all allow relays.

tommy you have static ip. Verizon FIOS ip address does not change like DSL, it has been a year almost and ip changed twice only. I am running exchange too, and it works fine.

Go to your routers GUI, and you will see ip address assigned, it won;t be changing soon. ;)

So you are good to go.

The reason you can't send to aol or probably hotmail is that they're blocking your IP range.

Create an SMTP connector in System Manager and configure it to use Verizon's outbound smtp server as a smarthost. Make sure to configure authentication based on the username and password you use for your @verizon.net email address.
