Hellgate London out Tomorrow!.

Well I said I wasn't going to buy it, but my brother bought me a copy of the game. It is quite fun so far even without the extra content. Runs purdy on my 8800gt as well :D

How is the game different in multiplayer than in singleplayer? Didn't buy it jet, but i tested singleplayer and it is nice, but how does multiplayer work? Players vs players or only players versus demons/computer and such thing.
Tnx for info in advance.

I have a collector's edition sitting on my desk still in plastic. I was going to cancel it after playing the demo, but I was too late. Trying to decide if I should give the game another try.

So you pre-ordered but didn't get a beta key? How did you manage that? Regardless, the demo is a horrible representation of the game. It is a step down from the beta, which in turn is a step down from the retail game. If you can look past the graphics and don't expect mind stimulating gameplay then you should be happy with it. I don't even think the graphics are that bad, they just aren't what they could be or what people were expecting.

The game is a lot of fun, I spent the evening trying to get all the Halloween content. I finished piecing together my pet Zombot but still have yet to find the flaming skull helmet. There's hardly any downtime in this game so it's very easy to kill a few hours and not even know it.

Apparently there is an achievement for having every single slot in your inventory and bank full. I received this achievement unintentionally, apparently I carry around too much shit. I can see now why someone would actually pay to subscribe to get extra slots. It's a good thing the ability to subscribe is down.;)

I ordered from ebgames, and they never sent me my key, was pretty pissed.

Playing through the game right now with a friend over lan, its very , very fun, just got to act 3 and were not even halfway through the game yet, its pretty long which is good, so far I can tell you they have put alot of thought into the dark humor and lvl design aswell as the weapon upgrading system and armor charictoristics. It is as much as I'd hoped for.

Answering the person above me about paying to play online, no you do not have to pay to play online, but If you want the new content updates they put out yes you do have to pay, I believe that its 10 dollars a month.

I finished piecing together my pet Zombot

lol have you seen the dance the Zombot does..... strait out of Thriller, its awesome.

It's probably been asked in the thread before, but don't you have to pay to play it online?

No. You can play online without paying.

Paying the Subscription gives you a few extra perks right now. Later as new content is released subscribers will get more classes to choose from and subscriber related content.

I see. Well, I might get it if it goes on sale somewhere in the near future. God knows I wasted a lot of time playing Diablo 2, and if it's as similar as some people are saying, then it might be worth it.

Think I'll pick it up this week. Question tho: How do they handle repeating content? Harder difficulty levels like D2, or once you get to the end you just boss run over and over? Howe many times around the merry-go-round do you go? :)

There are 2 go arounds, the second I believe they call "Nightmare mode".

I ordered the game on amazon.com for $39.99 w/ free shipping..

just fyi for a good deal on the game.. Sucks though i prob wont see it for a week or so, knowing its free shipping!

Funny thing is, I wasn't all that impressed with the demo, but I'm having a blast with the full game. I'm seriously addicted to the single player portion of the game right now... :D

I was the same way to an extent, playing the game with some friends and grouping up with just makes the game that much funner. I mean come on you have 3 of your friends in a group and a mass of 100 monsters comes to rape your face how can it not be fun right?

I've read this review:

http://shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=657

Based on those of you that have played the released content is that pretty close to what you are seeing?

I have a co-worker that says the mouse sync is out of whack, but I haven't hear anyone else report that. Apparently mouse movement in the HUD vs the gameplay is messed up.

I was a HUGE D2 addict so I'm chomping at the bit on this one.

Sums up what i thought about the game for the most part. Maybe once the price comes down and there has been some patches i'll pick it up.

seconded, including the mouse sync problem.

I enjoy the combat a bit now that it's patched, so I play it as a diversion, or when I'm watching TV.

Serious like D2 though? Hell no.

It's still buggy, and not all those bugs are minor (think "lose equipment"). I'd give it a few months.

They just fixed the Engineer drone equipment loss bug this patch, they seem to be working hard on fixes as well as adding decent content for subscribers. That being said, a few months wait may be advisable although I don't mind the game in its current form.

Patch 0.1 Notes

November 5, 2007

Greetings all!

We’re excited to see so many people playing and working hard on their characters. We’ve been working just as hard to crush bugs and add features, and we’ve got some surprises for you in this patch.

Although it was mentioned in Patch 0, we’ve moved Elite Difficulty to a feature that everyone can enjoy. We’ll warn you now – this is no walk in the park. If you’ve wanted more of a challenge, you’ll get it.

Amongst the persistent changes and features introduced in this patch, our subscription members are getting a slew of special Guy Fawkes related quests, environments, items, and rewards. Remember, remember the Fifth of November – although we’re going to be celebrating longer than just one day.

Thanks again for playing. See you online!

The Hellgate: London Team

---

World Events

* The All Hallows’ Eve event has ended. Halloween item drops and quests are no longer available, although all the goodies still work. If you have Candy, All Hallows Visage, or Zombot – they are yours! NOTE: If you have the plans and parts to construct a Zombot but have not yet done so, the recipe is still active.

UI

* Many new UI sounds for better feedback.
* Elite Mode button now lights up only when a player has completed the main storyline.
* Added a queuing system to the request dialog to better handle concurrent party, duel, trade, and guild requests from other players.
* New Account Information in the Options menu.
* Character’s level now properly displays after they join a guild
* Party members are now always displayed in the Party UI regardless of how far apart they are, as long as the characters are in the same area / level.
* New error message/sound when a character attempts to purchase an item without enough gold or room in their inventory.

Graphics

* Overall memory usage improved, especially in Stations. This increases client stability, reducing “memory exhausted” crash issues.

Skills
Not many balance changes – mostly bugs.

Templar

Guardian

* Prayer of Healing cannot be used while poisoned.

Blademaster

* Surge of Speed effects do not stack with Adrenaline boosts.

Cabalists

Summoner

* The Summon Reaper cool down is now fixed and independent of other Minions.

Hunters

* Escape displays its rate of use.

Engineer

* Drones stats/items now save on logout.
* Drones now properly receive Armor and Shields when equipped with armor using the Armor Retrofit skill.
* Improvements to Haste Bot per-level effects.
* Molotov Assault now has a splash damage component in addition to its field effect.

Quests

* PDA quest item can now be picked up.
* Camera and UI modes only change for the player commanding the RTS quest rather than all party members.

Items

* Dual Focus and Dual Melee affixes no longer spawn. This also addresses edge-case bugs associated with dual wield weapons rarely disappearing.
* Rebalanced Health and Power regeneration affixes.

Monsters

* Addressed numerous sync issues with Ravagers.

Environments

* More chests have been added to the Underground Cave passage set.

Miscellaneous

* Random recipes (including those found at Crafters) no longer produce Unique items.
* Slightly increased character damage in Elite Mode.

Special Subscriber Features
Here’s a host of explosive features for our subscription members.

Themed Events and Items
Special storylines, quests, NPCs and events designed to celebrate special seasons or provide different themed challenges. Some of these take place every so often, while others only happen at a specific time of year.

Guy Fawkes (November 5 – November 11)

* Nemo, Master of Festivities - He has moved to his permanent home inside Templar Base with several surprises for adventurous souls.
* Guy Fawkes Quests -There are bigger demons out there, and perhaps they’re being drawn to the flames that erupt on Bonfire night. Track down a series of named monstrosities and explore new areas as you seek to keep these horrors at bay.
* Bonfire Nightmares - Parts of the city have been made even more fiery than usual by the culmination of increased demonic activity and the explosive nature of the times. Keep an eye out for these rare locations.
* Grenades - What would this celebration be without explosions? Lots of explosions… so many, in fact, that everyone gets in on the fun of hurling the Marksman’s staple – Grenades. Now, imagine what else you could do with them…
* Guy Fawkes Recipes - Making things is a big part of the remembrance of Guy Fawkes for the survivors in London. The ingenuity of Guy Fawkes is represented in the numerous recipes and schematics that crop up during this time.
* Guy Fawkes Treats – Bonfire Toffee, Toffee Apples, Baked Potatoes – all of the expected foodstuffs (and more) to keep winter’s chill at bay and bolster characters with a wide variety of beneficial boosts.
* Fawkes’ Flameguards - Handling explosives can be tricky, so you’ll want to make sure to find the right pair of gloves to keep your hands safe and sound.
* The Legacy of Guy Fawkes - The Techsmiths have been busier than usual, so you’ll never know when gear might drop that has a thematic tie to the celebration.

Played the demo last night, had a hard time getting into it. The controls remind me of Tabula Rasa and I never really liked having my mouse locked like that. Having to open a window to move the mouse over the hot bar, etc.

.

Hold "alt" to unlock the mouse. Very painful:rolleyes:

This is Hellgate London and not diablo. It is nice so far i seen. Yes the mouse sensitivity is damaged.

where is todays patch? i looked on website but now its down. far as i can see the game doesnt patch by itself when you run the program

you have to wait till the link magically shows up in the launcher.

don't worry, you'll get to make your game playable eventually!

I'm not impressed with this game at all. Played it over the weekend got to level 19 as an envoker. It seems like i'm playing a singler player game online. Hardly see anyone and everyone seems to be going solo. Another thing that bothers me is that I seem to be going into the same zone over and over again with the same mobs just a little higher. I think i'm in act 4 by now. I might just beat it just to attempt to get my moneys worth but I won't be playing it again.

Are you talking about single player? Open the launcher, there should be a link that pops up.

Today with the release of the Guy Fawkes day content I noticed my Halloween stuff had been flagged "subscriber only." That's ok, I kind of wanted to check out what the Guy Fawkes content was like anyways (V for Vendetta was fucking awesome!) so I subscribed. What did I get for my $10?

  • I can now use the Halloween stuff that they had already "given" to non-subscribers and then taken back, hooray! I can also pick up tons of Guy Fawkes "related" items such as plans to make grenades that as far as I can tell are effect only. I also got plans for, among other things, making a baked potato; it requires a potato and a grenade as ingredients. Seriously.
  • There is also a Guy Fawkes related quest, which involves killing monsters that look suspiciously like all the other monsters in the game, except bigger and red. This quest is apparently bugged. :(
  • I also got more bank space! This is great for storing all my absofuckinglutely useless subscriber content such as my baked potato and Zombot, although to its credit the Zombot does do the thriller dance. Definitely worth $10.
  • Finally, I can create a guild! Cool, so I paid 10k palladium for a guild banner and went to work choosing a name for my guild. How about "Super Happy Fun Time Smile Brigade"? Too long by 2 characters, and you cannot use spaces, only underscores. I tried several other names I won't mention here, but apparently there's a profanity filter so I settled on "1-800-94-Jenny_Worked_For_Me". Cool, now I had a guild so I invited my friend, although he didn't show up in the guild member list and he didn't get the guild title. It was about this time that the game crashed, and when I logged back in my guild was deleted and I was out 10k. /sad panda

The most recent patch has done nothing to fix the game from crashing, and actually the recent addition of fire everywhere has significantly lowered my framerates in some areas. They did fix some engineer drone issues according to my friend, so I guess some things are getting fixed.

I wish they stop wasting time with useless subscriber content and just make the game more stable and remove bugs. Even having paid an extra $10 I'd much prefer to have the game than to have some fucking worthless consumables.

You also get 24 character slots when you subscribe, instead of the normal 3. That and the Hardcore mode are the main reasons to subscribe at this point. Elite would have been as well, but they gave that away for free.

The events seem pretty lame, I agree, but at least they are having some. The game has been out a week and they have managed two events while at the same time dealing with all the bullshit a launch brings. Once things settle down I would imagine the extra content will be a bit better.

Why subscribe this early when the mp is free? I mean, yea there will be more content "eventually", until then save your monies folks, be logical.

My primary interest in this is as a single player game. It sounds like I like what the FREE MP content is available. A place to hang with a few of my friends to throw down here and there. But I'm married, moving soon and having a kid soon.... NO MMO's for me!

My buddy said the mouse sync prob was fixed with the Nov5 patch... I'm still going to hold out a little bit and let him be my guinea pig and keep reading the threads here. Keep up the news early adopters :D

Thanks EA and flagship.

We basically just got told to expect a SP patch sometime in December. Maybe.

Since bought this mostly for Single player and see no reason to play it multi, I now have a nice coaster (since the SP patch currently out fixes the memory error, but breaks most of the quests) that I paid $75 for.

So, fuck that. Uninstalled. This game was broken in beta, and is broken now.

Just realize that the single player game is NOT getting the patches the rest of the game gets. The Current SP patch breaks the entire quest system (hellrifts missing, bosses missing, etc). you have to play online to get anywhere, or play the broken launch version

Not sure what you're talking about. I've patched my game and I've been playing it fine in SP mode since. Still get quests, hellrifts and everything. Only problem I have with it so far is the horrid The Wall quest.

Hit up the support forums single player section. We're not getting patch1, 2, etc that multiplayer gets -- At least not for several months. The mini-game is broken for all existing chars once you patch, There's a VERY good chance you'll have broken quests, etc. :(

what a crock, of course SP will get the shaft and the MP will be patched quickly because some people will be paying monthly, and EA is all about money. so glad i canceled my preorder.
