For some reason my dvd writer/reader is now being scene as a cd drive now. I want to burn some dvd's so this is a problem for me. It seems to read dvd's fine, but in my computer it comes up as "(D) CD drive".

It worked a few months ago I haven't used it and now for some reason it's doing this.
The dvd drive is a Lite-on dvdrw SOHW-1213s.
My mother board is asus a8n-e.

I downloaded the driver from lite on website but it didn't help.

Thanks guys.

u might want to try posting this in the Optical & Backup Drives
sub forum.

i believe reinstalling windows from scratch will fix that problem ;), but tell me, what burning program are u using?

Is it telling you from within Explorer or the burning program? If its the burning program, remove and re-install it. If its in Windows in general (and shows up in Explorer as CD-RW (x:), where x is its drive letter), then it may be a device or filters issue.

I have a feeling that its the software telling you that its a CD drive. You sure you didn't select CD mode? Have you tried actually burning it to a DVD? They may seem like stupid questions, but they are worth asking to try and get a result :)

thx for the replys boys, but windows AND the nero are saying it's a cd-rom. If I go to my computer it says drive D is a cd-rom. I can play dvds in it, and I know for a fact it's a dvd burner so this is a werid problem.

try updating your drive´s firmware. Check the cable of your drive, flat or sata, whatever it is, make sure it´s not bended

Update firmware? Also, are you using an older version of Nero all of a sudden?
